Olympic legend Sally Gunnell joined an old friend to launch a scheme aimed at combating childhood obesity among the Xbox generation.

The gold medalist hurdler met with former training partner Keri Lees to promote her new venture, the Leaps and Bounds programme, which is designed to get kids active from as early an age as possible.

Local girl Keri, who is better known by her maiden name of Keri Maddox, is the first person in the area to offer nurseries the two-year programme.

Developed by Tumble Tots UK Ltd, it is designed to complement the curriculum nurseries currently provide and improve youngster’s co-ordination and fitness though a variety of games and exercises.

Launching the Leaps and Bounds programme at Silky Seals Pre-School at Silkmore Primary School, Stafford, Sally said: “It’s all about getting kids active, which is great.

“I’m a real believer in teaching the basics from a young age – I think you’re never to young to start.”
