Wolverhampton television presenter Mark Speight will not face police prosecution over the death of his lover earlier this year, it was revealed today.
The Crown Prosecution Service has ruled that no further action should be taken against the 42-year-old star over the tragedy.
Former Tettenhall College pupil Mark was originally arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the body of 31-year-old actress and presenter Natasha Collins in the bath at their luxury penthouse home in St John’s Wood, London on January 3.
Detectives later announced that he was no longer a murder suspect but remained on police bail pending investigations into the supply of Class A drugs.
Now the Metropolitan Police has dropped that allegation as well, but Mark still faces the ordeal of an inquest into the death of his girlfriend which is due to be held next month. He recently announced that he was quitting the popular children’s TV show SMart.
His mother Jackie, an aromatherapist and former art teacher told the Express & Star at her Tettenhall Wood home today: “The news from the police is a huge relief to me and him but he is still in a state of shock.
“The next hurdle is the inquest and I will feel happier when that is finished.”
