Another 10 jobs going at Beatties

House of Fraser is undertaking a £250,000 relaunch of the two Beatties restaurants, concessions run by Massarella Catering Ltd, with the popular waitress service being axed.

A source close to the store said: “Staff were being called in for a meeting today and we believe between eight and 10 were going to be told they are leaving. It is happening now because the restaurant is closing for refurbishment on April 12 so that’s the perfect time for the axe to fall. Everyone has been living under a cloud waiting for this.”

The job losses are the latest since House of Fraser’s parent company Baugur took over the store.

Earlier this month, the Express & Star revealed 10 staff were made redundant in the store’s handling, operations administration and maintenance departments

An ex-worker said employees received letters this week ahead of today’s meeting.

House of Fraser spokesman Fergus Wiley said the decision was taken by Massarella. No one from the catering company was available for comment today.

The start of the end folks – and anyone with commonsense knew this would happen.

Pity – it was always a pleasure to dine in Beatties’ waitress restaurant. Anyone who has experienced Mossarella’s catering at other House of Fraser stores will know the food and service is dire.

Why is Wolverhampton’s Council silent on this issue?

Do they not realise the strategic significance of Beatties and how its presence has been responsible, very largely, for the pre-eminence of Wolverhampton as a centre? or is Wolverhampton’s council still bent on venting its impotent rage on any “capitalistic” venture it can reach?

This will injure the people of Wolverhampton. “So What?” perhaps will be their response. So silent means the same.
