Wolves set for Easter double

speedwayteam2.jpgWolves Speedway get the Easter weekend off to a flyer with a double whammy of away fixtures in the Craven Shield tomorrow (Friday).

The side faces an early start on Good Friday as they take on Belle Vue in the morning before heading back down the M6 to visit Coventry in the evening.

Belle Vue was certainly a happy hunting ground for Wolves last year as they won both their League encounters in Manchester.

David Howe and Fredrik Lindgren scored solidly in both matches and, of course, will be looking for similar results for both themselves and their new team-mates.

Belle Vue’s Kirkmanshulme Lane track is notorious for its slick surface, which means the Wolves will need plenty of gating ability because passing can be difficult on the narrow, smooth track.

Kenneth Hansen failed to score in three rides at the venue on his Wolves debut last May and will be looking to put mechanical problems suffered last Monday behind him.

Belle Vue will be spearheaded by twice world champion Jason Crump and former Wolf Charlie Gjedde, while Polish newcomers Lukasz Jankowski and Michal Rajkowski will be worth watching on their debuts.

The second part of the day’s action takes place at Brandon with Coventry doubtless hungry to avenge their 53-37 defeat at Monmore Green on Monday.

Lindgren and Christian Hefenbrock have both shown their liking for the wide open spaces of the Brandon race strip in previous years, but track conditions can be changeable and the side will need to work together to adapt.

The day is sure to be a tough test for Nicolai Klindt as he visits two new venues for the first time in Wolves colours.

Simon Stead will be hoping to be back to his best form for the Bees, while track specialists Chris Harris and Billy Janniro are sure to prove tough nuts to crack.

Tapes go up at Belle Vue at 11am and at Coventry at 8pm.
