Wolves boss confident on play-offs

Friday 14th March 2008, 11:24AM GMT.

mikc2.jpgWolves boss Mick McCarthy today brushed away the rising tide of pessimism over the club’s play-off hopes and declared: “We’re in a good position to make it.”

Defeat at Preston on Tuesday was a blow for Wolves’ faltering play-off hopes but once again results elsewhere in the Championship have kept them in the thick of it.

They must bridge a five point gap over the next eight weeks but with two games in hand – and a run of fixtures which takes in some of their top six rivals – McCarthy believes there is all to play for.

“We have still got a good opportunity,” he said.

“We’re still fighting for a play-off spot. We’d like to be in a better position but considering some of the results we have had we’re still in a good position.

“As the games ebb away we know we’ve got to get ourselves more wins, but we’re in a position where we can achieve that play off spot and it’s up to us to take advantage.”

McCarthy is wary of the threat posed by in-form Burnley, one of a clutch of sides who occupy the places in between Wolves and the top six, saying: “Burnley are like Preston – they are on a good run.

“We saw from when they came to Molineux that they can play.”

While it is still mathematically possible for us to reach the play-offs, those of us who watch the games will tell you that this team does not have it in them.

There is a nucleus of excellent and good players, the worry is that Moxey will see it as an oppurtunity to make some money and sell them on to Premiership clubs, which means that we will have suffered this season for no good reason, other than making Moxey another gigantic bonus.

Now as the execution draws near we enter the funeral state. Everyone will begin to say nice things and wish him well and remember how he heroically saved us from certain relegation last season. For goodness sake Mr Morgan throw the switch and let us move on to something fresh and hopeful.

Yes, Mick desrves criticism for our poor form this season. Does he deserve the constant tirade of abuse and idiotic comments – NO. Whilst i don’t agree with No.5, his point is well made and doesn’t rely on cheap shots or Freddy references to make his point. But what do people expect Mick to say? If he were to say it’s no good and we throw in the towel the response would be scathing. Get a grip guys and support the team. The end of the season is the time to assess and criticise, not now when the team need our support.

    I WANT A DIVORCE!

    Dear Mick

This is the hardest thing I’ve had to say to you…but its over between us.

When you first came into our lives everything was so perfect, and you were so good with the kids…but now you wont have anything to do with them. You even sent some of them away! Poor Freddy just isn’t himself any more and wants to leave home. Nothing he ever does is good enough for you. You only ever have time for all your old mates, and you know I don’t like any of them…

You promised us everything but things just haven’t worked out, in fact things are worse than when you came into our lives.

You wont ever admit you’re wrong…you blame everyone but yourself. You make pathetic excuses & you even tried to blame me! You’re just an arrogant, stubborn, self centered pig & you’d rather see everything collapse around us before you’ll ever admit you were wrong. You won’t even accept that there is a problem, you wont even look at our current position, but its over Mick..it’s time for you to go.

You say you need more time & everything will work out but I just don’t believe you. Week after week you and your mates are an embarrassment to watch, and then you come back full of excuses. It used to be just at weekends but Tuesday night was the last straw. You constantly embarrass me in front of the neighbours and i’ve had enough. Last week you even tried to punch poor Gary…you’re out of control.

We did have some good times & I tried to make it work, but i’ve been so stupid to let it go on this long. We were in such a mess after Glenn left….and then you came along. But all you’ve done is spent our money & what have we got to show for it! Nothing! You spent it all on your old buddies. I don’t know what you see in them…even when Kyle was thrown out you didn’t hesitate to invite him to stay with us! without asking, as usual.

So it’s finally time for you to go. Its over!
You won’t get a penny out of us, and don’t even think of taking any of the kids. So clear out & take all your old cronies with you.

Oh, just one other thing, there’s someone else.
    His name’s Paul.

mick has overseen some of the worst football i’ve seen at molineux for many years, the whole thing from tactics, formations, style, goals, defending, coaching, transfers, loans, youngsers, ex sunderland, man management, media, excuses, . it has been a complete disaster and i am sick of travelling hundreds of miles to watch rubbish and then hear the excuses.
i was expecting our players to show the same hard work, effort, commitment,as last season and i hooped with the addition of eastwood we would finally have the person to bang in the goals and take the many chance we were creating and missing, i thought definate top 6. we have gone backwards this season and the blame lies with mick and his cronies.
i want wolves to at least be competing wasn’t expecting promotion but hoped it might happen, but we struggle to compete with the teams in the bottom half of the league.
i am always 100% behind the team and always the optimist but i have given up on this season and hope we don’t have to put up with mick for another season, surely another manager could come in with our players, and youngsters and with some added quality we could be competing.

    It would be a disaster!!!
This team is by no means ready for Premier League football.

Yes, McCarthy would be given funds to strengthen, but we all know his ability in the transfer market.
