No home blues for Walsall: Money
Friday 14th March 2008, 11:25AM GMT.
Walsall manager Richard Money has played down talk of the Saddlers performing better away from the Banks’s Stadium.
They have just six home wins this season, the lowest of any side in the top 15 in League One.
Only three sides in the division, Bristol Rovers, Bournemouth and Port Vale, have fewer home successes to their name.
In contrast, the Saddlers have eight victories on the road, which only Swansea and Doncaster can better, but Money believes this is merely an anomaly and that they have no problem performing at the Banks’s.
“It makes no difference to us at all whether we play at home or away,” Money said.
“It’s just the way it’s panned out this season that we’ve won more away than at home.
“Up until last Saturday we hadn’t lost at home since September, so until the Northampton game you wouldn’t think there was any evidence that we don’t like playing at home.
“It’s a good thing that it doesn’t make any difference, because most teams have a bit of a fear about playing away and both of the years I’ve been here, we’ve had good away records and we need to keep that going.”
Walsall’s next three away games are all against promotion chasing sides – Forest, Leeds and Southend – and Money admitted that the slip-ups against Northampton and Brighton have placed added pressure on their excellent away form.
“We go to Forest and Leeds next and that’s why the last two games have been a little bit disappointing,” Money said.
