Henry: We must kick off revival

Thursday 13th March 2008, 1:00PM GMT.

wd2511003qpr-v-wolves-23-g.jpgKarl Henry today kicked off the build-up to Wolves’ potentially make-or-break trip to Burnley by insisting: “We still believe we can do it.”

The Molineux men suffered another setback in their push for the top six on Tuesday as they crashed to a dispiriting defeat against Preston – leaving them languishing in 11th place with just 11 games left to revive their promotion campaign.

And, while Henry has confessed Wolves are running out of games to make up the five-point gap, he insists the players are convinced they can still turn things round.

“Time is running out, but we have just got to keep going and working hard,” he said. “We know we can put a run together. It’s not just quite worked for us over the last two games, but we will keep going.

“It’s been well-documented how the league is so tight this season and how everyone is beating everyone else.

“It doesn’t take a lot extra to become a dominant team and go on and win games, so we’ve all got to give it everything we can and try to get ourselves back up there.”

The Wolves midfielder shared the disappointment of the supporters after Tuesday’s defeat, but insisted it wasn’t disastrous for the play-off campaign.

“Last week against Southampton we were terrible, but we’d got two good wins in the away games before that and then Preston was an opportunity missed,” he said.

“That could have been 10 points out of a possible 12 which would have been a really good run, but it wasn’t to be. We were all disappointed, but have just got to keep going and keep our heads up and hopefully we will pick up points.”

Henry admits Wolves need to be more ruthless than they were at Preston– where he believes they threw away good chances to kill off the game. “It was totally against the run of play that they got their penalty,” he said.

Are these guys for real ? If stating the obvious was all that was needed for 3 points – we would be promoted by now. Our team talks a fantastic game – sadly very few of them have the talent or quality to deliver. Those that do get ignored by Mr. Muppet in favour of substandard favourites. Ultimately it will be the downfall of MM but sadly it will be the end of another frustrating season for us !! Ince in Now to prepare for next season – or even fluke a promo this season !!

We all know this is a competitive league however please go out there and have a go! We have the players to do it if you all show up on the day. Come on lads, one final push. Play with confidence. Finished 5th last season, playing reasonably attractive football. We spend £6 million pounds adding 10 players to that team (Gray, Foley, Ward, Elokobi, Jarvis, Edwards, Eastwood, Elliott, Ebanks and Kyle. Now mid table playing atrocious football. Have I missed something or does that not represent gross mismanagement and utter failure? How anyone can make a case for him keeping his job is totally beyond me.

Is there anyone out there who still supports Mick McCarthy? – if so, please report to your nearest Mental Hospital.

The man has turned the makings of a decent team last season, to a shambles this. I don’t understand – it’s almost as if he has intentionally undone all his good work of last season. He is in a cocoon and blissfully carries on with his devils work.

I understand that MM doesn’t read blogs and the like but I think he should as there is far more sense shown by supporters than people who are paid a lot of money to know better.

The Championship has been exceptionally poor this season and although we have no divine right to promotion, with capitalisation on last seasons work and a little tinkering we would have had a great opportunity to take advantage of the situation. Instead we have gone backwards and need to go back to the drawing board.

I hope that behind the scenes, Steve Morgan has set in place a complete reorganisation of the Management team (including a new manager) in readiness for next season. Now that he has had time to get his feet under the (boardroom) table, I will be disheartened with anything less.

All they can do now is press on!

I wish McCarthy would through caution to the wind and play an attacking team and formation.

Our most creative players without Kightly are:

    SEB
    Keogh
    Bothroyd
    Eastwood

Drop Henry or play him at right back. Bring back Olofinjana and play Davies alongside him, get Gobern and Jarvis on the wings. Bring back Jones and Little. What has he got to loose?

But he wont do it, either he knows he has another season or he is even more stupid than we first thought because if we continue with negative tactics and players we will not change our possition!

    McCarthy has bought badly:

    D Ward
    S Ward
Edwards – ok but we didn’t need him
    Potter
Foley – ok but we didn’t need him
    Gibbson – why?

    Dear Mr Morgan

As a supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers, I regret to inform you that I have lost faith and confidence in Mick McCarthy, our manager and it would be my request that you terminate his employment forthwith.

Mr McCarthy is a decent and, on occasions, humourous man who I’m sure wishes to achieve success with the first team and is passionate about this as demonstrated by his altercation with his captain following a recent disappointing result against Southampton.

Sadly, decency, passion and commitment, though praiseworthy values, are not the traits required of a Championship Manager in 2008.

I would suggest that the following are more important – and indeed vital – for a team that is hopeful of winning promotion: team selection, tactics, buying the right players, inspiring the dressing room, playing consistently entertaining football and effective media relations. I would maintain that during the current season, Mr McCarthy has demonstrated significant failings in all of the above.

Team selection appears random and increasingly desperate, tactics don’t seem to fit with the ultimate objective of achieving promotion, players have been bought that have not consistently performed to the expected standard, players have barely hid their confusion and disappointment at managerial decisions, the style of play has been almost exclusively negative and dull and his statements in the local press have attracted widespread ridicule.

Perhaps the only additional quality required of a manager who wishes to retain his position is a good relationship with the Board and it appears that Mr McCarthy succeeds here in ways which would suggest a 10 point lead at the top of the table if he had equal abilities in team selection, tactics and motivation.

I’m sure you share my deep disappointment at the way that the legacy of last season has been squandered and whilst the achievements last year merit some indulgence on your part, that indulgence towards Mr McCarthy is bordering now on the irrational.

For now, I and others will continue to provide wholehearted support to the club but I fear that if there is not prompt action, you will lose goodwill, fans and ultimately much needed revenue.

I would be grateful for a response to this heartfelt plea. I may, of course, have overlooked qualities that Mr McCarthy has which deserve consideration and which would challenge my basic proposition that he is not capable of doing the job to which he has been appointed. I am willing to be persuaded and am happy to meet with you personally to explore this issue. In the meantime, be assured that this letter stems not from a knee-jerk reaction to a dreadfully disappointing season but a lengthy reflection on my own views and the considered and knowledgable comments of the vast majority of contributors to the Express and Star website.

    Yours Sincerely

    Molly Knew Mick

Sadly Karl is one of a number of Wolves players that have failed to hold their form this season and he looks like a rest would do him good. Can we look at one other club in a league above us, who recently followed fan pressure. Sacking big sam because the geordie faithful didn’t appreciate his style, the owner signed up perhaps every fans favourite man, Kevin Keegan, a real popularist choice. They’ve really benefited from listening to the fans haven’t they!

The Motorway network is creaking under the volume of traffic.CO2 levels are going through the roof & the railways? Well, they are buckling due to underinvestment, the London Underground is old and antiquated & we’ve got the 2012 Olympics to cope with”.
God says “Well my dear. The rail network was wrecked under Dr Beeching in the 60’s and will take a very long time to fix, due to red tape & lack of money. The Motorways are crumbling to the sheer volume of traffic created by Dr Beechings axe & the population increasing with immigration & unmarried mothers and such like. The London Underground was built in the 18th Century & as you quit rightly pointed out, it is antiquated & needs a thorough overhaul. There is no way London can cope with the Olympics as there is far too much to be done, even for me. Is there anything else I can help you with?”

26 Newbridgewolf – the record isn’t going to change about criticising MM because a lot of Wolves supporters, myself included, do not believe the club will move forward under his management. People like yourself seem to think that the way to success is to stay loyal to the manager. Well that is only the right thing to do if the manager is a good one. I didn’t see any tears from Millwall, Sunderland and Ireland when MM left, in fact I think they were all quite happy for him to go.
With regards to Paul Ince of course it would be a bit of a gamble but I think he deserves enormous credit for learning his trade in the lower leagues before taking on a big job. Most ex internationals that move into management only want to be considered for a big club. He has done excellently at Macclesfield and Milton Keynes, and I can’t believe that someone that played for Man. Utd, Liverpool, Milan and England doesn’t know what it takes to combine what he has learned from managing small clubs with playing for the biggest ones, and making a good manager.
I think we should go for him because if we don’t then I am sure in the next six months someone else in our league or the Premier League will.

I have been championing the appoiontment of Paul Ince for months and months. That guy is proper determined to be a success at management, he has jumped in the deep end with maccessfield, and has now doing a brilliant job at MK Dons. So if MM is sacked in the summer which I am expected to happen in May then the Steve Morgon needs to appoint him as our new manager. Steve Morgan I implore you to get a grip of this once proud club and shake it from the very foundations. Surely he can see in his own eyes the mess we are in. Fans are split on the manager scenerio, style of football has been awful, wasted millions on players who he then doesnt play, players playing out of position, his recruitment of ex-sunderland players and his old favourites are not working out, his spate with other players, dressing room unrest, bust up’s, nugget-gate, and his arrogant self importance is of someone who has lost the plot. And considering he did a miracle job last season, this season we have gone backwards.

It amazes me that the messageboards is the only place to vent your comments, and I find it staggering that the wolves board are aware of the comments which has been made about MM. If we lose against Burnley, at home on saturday then there is no more excuses. MM can blame the players, the fans or the chuffing tea lady, but as far as I am concerned we are not good enough in this league. With the “so called” financial resources at the managers disposal, it has been a disaster of a season. MM has had 2 bites of the cherry and he cant cut it. His style of play is out dated and sterile and wolves fans demand entertainment and we have not had that since that Dave Jones season where we cocked it up at the last hurdle, dont need me to tell you what happended afterwards.

Paul Ince is a manager on the up. Proven leader on the pitch and he wants the challenge. So Steve Mortgan its your club, make some decisions and your bull about flying off to Uganda or San Siro for your own publicity and run this club. Start making decisions and stop hiding. The vision you said was that you want wolves to be competing with the likes of the top 4, but we are miles away from that.

So come Steve, where are you. No point sending that buffoon Moxey, I dont want to hear anymore from that Fat idiot, I pay good money to see wolves, both home and away and I want to hear your thoughts you have every right to speak after all it is your club.
