Wolves boss angry at ref
Wednesday 12th March 2008, 2:00PM GMT.
Frustrated Mick McCarthy took issue with the spot kick decision that ruined his side’s hopes of a crucial three points towards their play off push.
Wolves were one up and edging the game when Preston striker Chris Brown was sent sprawling by the right lef of Jody Craddock on 59 minutes.
Referee Jonathan Moss had no hesitation in pointing to the spot but, on closer inspection, it looked like a suspect decision with Brown edged out by a fair challenge by Craddock – who protested vociferously afterwards.
McCarthy reckoned the game hinged on that decision and, while he accepted Wolves were caught napping for Simon Whaley’s stunning winning goal, he was adamant that the Preston fightback started with Moss’ decision to give a spot kick.
“It didn’t look like a penalty to me,” he said.
“I try not to look at the world through rose coloured spectacles – if it’s a penalty I’ll say it’s one but on this occasions I didn’t think it was.
“I’ve seen it a number of times and I think it’s a soft one. I have articulated my thoughts to the referee very politely and pleasantly but of course it changed the game.
“They’d had a really good spell just after our goal but I think we’d got away with that a little bit. We’d had a goal spell then as well and we perhaps should have put it away with our chances too.
“Then we defended badly for the second goal – it’s a fabulous finish but our defending isn’t good enough.”
The defeat leaves Wolves mired in mid-table after once again failing to make their opponents pay as they racked up chances in the first ten minutes of the second half.
It left McCarthy ruing Wolves’ lack of killer touch, which he felt would have capped an otherwise acceptable display.
“I thought the performance as a whole was OK. When we scored the goal we were on top and we should have gone on and finished it,” he said.
“Perhaps it’s been the story of our season – missed chances and not scoring enough goals.
“Andy Keogh has come in and scored a good goal and Sylvan has added to us but in general and overall we’ve not had enough goals from every department.”
Wolves had begun with a 4-5-1 formation but switched to 4-4-2 in the second half as they went in search of a much-needed victory at Deepdale.
Dave Edwards suffered a groin strain during the course of the first half, but it was a deliberate decision to go after the three points for Wolves.
“The change in personnel was forced on us but not the change in formation,” added McCarthy.
“Dave Edwards had to come off with a groin injury but I’d decided to change to 4-4-2 to try and win the game.
“Going to two up top gives you more of a strikeforce but coming away from home do you have to be the team that forces the game?
“And we had the best two chances in the first half to be fair.
“I felt that the opportunities they have got are perhaps us giving the ball away.
“The winner came from us giving it away – we had good possession but lost it and the ball ended up in our net.”

Well, actually Mick, yes you do if you are 5 points off the play offs with games running out and playing a team who are towards the bottom of the table.
It beggars belief doesn’t it?

same old mick….It left McCarthy ruing Wolves’ lack of killer touch…..“Perhaps it’s been the story of our season – missed chances and not scoring enough goals….“The change in personnel was forced on us but not the change in formation,”
its due to team choice, formation, training and the players on the day… i can excuse you the players on the day but you have the choices to substitute them, you choose the formation, you train the players along with your choice of coach, you keep playing your favorites and don’t give certain players a fair chance including the young players who did well last season but you seem to have discarded to one side since….. so mick….make way for mr ince asap please just go

We seem to be very clumsy in and around the penalty area which leads to so many goals for the opposition. Something to work on in the training ground?

Another loss with someone else other than management to blame. Maybe if MM bought players from someone else other than the worst Premiership team in history (the Sunderland side MM took down) or anyone with an Ireland cap we may get promotion. Bridgnorth wolves say MICK OUT!

Another scapegoat.
To cheer everyone up
We have a manager, his name is Mick
The problem we have is that he is quite Thick
He played the wrong players, in the wrong position
By doing that he failed his premiership mission.
He blamed everyone, players, refs and fans
It wasn’t his fault, he thought he was the right man.
His players put in a shift but couldn’t attack
Please Mr Mogan can you give him the sack

LET’S BE HONEST WOLVES FANS. It’s been a poor season, very disjointed and injury hit. Mick has often blamed people publicly and has naturally been picked-up on it, however, this seems like a fair assessment of the game. The penalty was a shocking decision and it did turn the game. The second goal, although a good strike, came as a result of the worst piece of defending I’ve seen from us all season. The lad was in acres of space and was allowed to pick his spot. Fair enough, we’re all disappointed but let’s be sensible and think things through before commenting.

How can you blame this season on injuries? We’ve had one big injury in Kightly. 2 if you include Breen, and maybe 3 if you include Jarvis.
We’ve still got 17 strikers, enough midfielders, one who trains with Rooney & Ronaldo, yet can’t get in the team, a premiership goalkeeper, and at one time had the best defensive record in the division.
So do NOT blame this season on a couple of injuries.
At the end of the day, Mick made a ridiculous decision to let Craddock out on loan to Stoke, who look to be going up, or if not, are in a better position than we’ll ever be in with this clown in charge.
How many Wolves managers would of lasted this long?
Currently 11th in this **** league, with the likes of Burnley & Hull above us?

It will soon be over now. His persecution complex has maxed out, there is no one else to blame. He has abused the fans, ridiculed the players, has contempt for referees, has the tactical awareness of a hamster, his fellow managers sussed out his blinkered tactics months ago and his only saving grace is Moxey. But even Moxey has to fill the stadium in the cosy safe world of the Championshit so he will bow to pressure and sack MM soon, then he will convince Mr. Morgan to appoint another has been who’s bank account is full of compensation funds from previous sackings, has the ambition of a maggot and the wheel will go around again. Dave Jones frightened Moxey to death! He had to go because he might just have got us up again and Jez would be dealing with real agents and talking real money, of course he proved he is incapable of being Chief Executive of a Prem club so he knows if we go up he is out. So we are left with an owner who would love to sell and buy into Liverpool, a MD/CEO/FatController who must keep us down to keep his job and a Manager who has run out of excuses. The players are all fine by me, not their fault at all and are picking up good money and not more than one will make it in the Prem so expect nothing but spin from them, Wolves go up they off to Colchester. So my dreams of Ince leading us to the promised land are just dreams. Next time we play the baggies is whenever they happen to come back down. Off to see my therapist.
ps: What really makes this cynic so sad is that the vast majority of Wolves fans believe the garbage they are fed because they want to believe, they want to escape the drudgery that is the Championship.

It would be helpful if Mick came out and clearly stated why he doesn’t feel that the youngsters he tried last year and who showed great promise, aren’t being given a few games now? That would clear up a lot of the whingers on this site. If we had players injured he might be forced into giving them a chance, well, they aren’t injured but jesus! they sure aren’t playing well. In fact they are playing like they are injured so give the guys a chance, then if they can’t do it, then we’ll all know where we are! But it’s demoralising seeing us throw away game after game, chance after chance, then listening to our ‘influential leader’ Breen saying we’ve let everyone down … again! You can’t keep saying ‘We’re really up for this one, we know what we have to do’ then following that with, ‘We’ve let everyone down again!’
Time after time, they’re all losing their credibilty and Mick is steadfastly steering the ship onto the rocks.
He must come out and tell us all why he wants to persevere with a continuously underperforming team whilst shipping ‘Dead keen’, ‘Really want to do it for Wolves’ players out to other teams when they could be performing for us and making a name for themselves in the old gold.
*sigh*
Report abuse
As another season is laid to rest let us place the blame squarely where it belongs. With the fans. We get what we deserve nothing else. We are prepared to put up with an owner and management team that think the Championship is good enough for Wolverhampton and we should shut up and be oh so grateful that people like Jez and Mick lower themselves to be here, even the owner shows no interest and wears a red and white scarf. Even our Blogger Nathan has found it so difficult to get into the ring and throw a punch or two. As long as we accept second rate then that is what we will get. Revolutions happen when people rise up and say enough. Anybody had enough yet?

I tell you what could be done and that is get rid of MM & JM and all the pensioners on the field, what should be done is let our young guns do us proud like last year. I don’t believe MM and JM have the decency to do the right thing and resign. All season we’ve seen our performance deteriorate and MM excuses are feeble and far to late. But there is one thing i know, MM is with us to the end of the season come what may it was written in the buy out clause i’m sure of that. So MM does not care about WOLVES he knows he’s fine till the seasons end, for me that can’t come to soon cause it will rid us of MM. Get rid of JM is a must also.

It’s very easy to blame anything but yourself when things go pear shaped. I’ve not knocked MM at all, as I believed it was just a very long blip in an otherwise fairly successful career. But as with other managers before him, he can’t take the pressure.
It seems the safe bet with the track record of success wasn’t such a wise choice after all.
My gut feeling at the time of appointment was that the board should have showed a bit of bottle and gone for Paul Ince. I wish they had now as it seems there will soon be another casualty of the managerial Molineux merry go round.

Mick McCarthy has announced plans for a big shin-dig at the Stadium of Light before this Saturday’s match with Wigan. The game marks McCarthy’s 38th premiership match in charge – equivalent to a full season of top flight football.
Awful
For the 37 Premiership games he’s been in charge so far, McCarthy’s record doesn’t really lend too much cause for celebration: won two, drawn four, lost 31 with a goal difference of minus 48 and a points tally of ten.
Sunderland look set to beat the record for the least successful season in the premiership; currently 19 points – a record already held by Sunderland. That team managed to get those 19 points before McCarthy joined for the remaining nine games of the 2002/03 season.
Terrible
But McCarthy feels a celebration is just what’s needed to turn his club’s fortunes around. He’s already booked the hall and the DJ and has invited players and fans to join in.
“Yeah it’ll be right classy”, he explained. “Sausage rolls, pork pies, one of those hedgehog things made with cheese and pineapple on cocktail sticks – none of your rubbish.”
Hopeless
When pressed about his dire performance in charge, Mick went on the defensive: with predictably hopeless results. “It’s very easy to focus on the negatives”, he told intrepid Onion Bag reporter Larry Gak. “There are positives we can take out of this season.” Such as? “Erm, well – no one’s been horribly maimed by escaped tigers. There’s one.”
An uncomfortable silence fell between the two. Our reporter felt it the best opportunity to wrap up the interview and leave. “Off already?” Mick remarked. “Well, I’ll see you next week. It’ll be great. Bring some mates too – more the merrier. Don’t go – I’m so lonely.”
D’oh!
Breaking News: Just as the Onion Bag went to press (annoyingly), Sunderland sacked Mick McCarthy. In a statement, Chairman Bob Murray was full of regrets. “I wish to apologise to the staff of The Onion Bag for manking up their index page with our, not altogether surprising, decision to sack our manager. Needless to say, Mick’s anniversary celebrations are cancelled.” McCarthy was philosophical about the news “Looks like the party’s over” he said

Whatever happens this season we should still support the lads and see where it leaves us at the end of the season.
If we do our bit for the club, Then we can’t shoulder any of the blame. Getting rid of MM now would NOT help our chances, and seeing as though Ince is on course to get MK Dons promoted I doubt he’d leave just yet.
Just support the lads, and wait and see where we end up in the table.
10 games left thats 30 points up for grabs, and you know how this league can fluctuate.

So, lets put all this into context shall we?
it aint M&M’s fault, it aint the players fault, it aint the grounds fault, it aint the weathers fault and it aint the fact that the ball is round either. The Captain says they’ve let us down and its their fault and the manager has slagged the internet nuggets off for having a differing opinion to his. The McCarthy supporters have slagged all the anti Mccarthy supporters off. So I guess its all the anti McCarthy supporters fault then?
So why don’t all the pro McCarthy go to the next home game and the anti MM supporters stay away? We might just then see who the hell is in the minority here but that won’t solve whose right and wrong.
For all those mick loving fans who hate all those who want him out I say simply this, if you don’t like free speech and different viewpoints Bugger off to China and see how you like not being able to have an opinion of your own at all.
Thank you and good afternoon
