Cheltenham Festival off today
Wednesday 12th March 2008, 8:39AM GMT.
High winds today forced the abandonment of the second day of this year’s Cheltenham Festival.
Course officials decided that the winds would be too much of a risk to festival-goers in the temporary hospitality areas.
The news comes as Northern Ireland, north Wales and north-west England were being pounded by gales and heavy rain in the second band of storms to hit the UK in three days.
Forecasters say gusts of up to 80mph have hit Northern Ireland as the Atlantic weather front moves eastwards.

Wimps!!!! Can’t think of the last time it was abandoned for the day…I was there when the Gold Cup was held back for almost an hour when snow fell!! They still ran that race…and finished the card..almost in the dark…
