Albion boss pledges style

Wednesday 12th March 2008, 11:28AM GMT.

Tony MowbrayTony Mowbray has backed his FA Cup heroes to turn on the style when they return to Championship action at The Hawthorns tonight.

The Baggies will look to boost their push for automatic promotion against Crystal Palace three days after booking their place in a Wembley semi-final.

And, after resorting to what Mowbray described as “effective football” to defeat Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship and Bristol Rovers in Sunday’s quarter-final, he is predicting a return to “classic Albion” this evening.

“There is no change in my mindset,” said Mowbray, who admitted he was forced to tailor his preferred passing style to cope with difficult pitches.

“We will play at home tonight and hopefully people will see a very stereotypical Albion performance on a nice pitch which has plenty of grass on it.

“It’s at home, we know we can move the ball around quickly, so there will be no change to the style of play and no adaptation to the philosophy of play.

“We will go and try to win a game as we generally do at home.”

Albion will defend a proud home record in the Championship tonight having lost just twice in 18 matches on home turf so far this season.

They have scored 43 league goals at The Hawthorns and conceded just 17 to keep themselves in the hunt for promotion.

And Mowbray sees no reason to compromise his style of play at home as he has away, although he has hinted he will adopt a “horses for courses” approach for the remainder of the season.

“Our home record has been decent this year so there is no reason to change that,” he said.

“But we talked last week about adapting to the conditions, the pitches, the weather and the opposition’s state of mind.”

Mowbray has some tough selection decisions to make this evening, most notably up front and out wide.

Zoltan Gera, James Morrison and Chris Brunt are competing for two wide midfield positions. And Luke Moore, cup-tied against Bristol is back in contention.

this will be a tough one, as they all are.Especially with their manager.Their wide players will cause us problems so the choice of our wide midfielders for the starting lineup will be interesting.I would like to see Kim on the bench. He looks an exciting prospect ut needs easing in gently.

5.. Dont think ish will have it as easy tonight Palace are a decent side (not that rovers where a poor one) We need to win all our home games.

Our games in hand are Cardiff away and Wolves away both are tough games form means nothing in derby games and the way its going it will be the highlight of there season to beat albion. Ironicly we would do wolves a favour tonight by beating palace. But who cares about other teams Its in our own hands

23/24/25 more points required for promotion.

BANTER-BANTER all good fun but looking at the present and recent times remember these
    We own our ground
We generate our own cash and not rely on Sugar Daddies
We’ve never been sold for a TENNER
Our goal difference is only 6 short of what you have managed ALL season, you might not understand that one

    Think about it

6.. Ive read some rubbish coming out of the mouths of certain Wolves fans but this is probably both the worst and funniest I have read.

I cant decide if you half French with you ‘av’ or if you are just completely bitter and struggle with the English language

We still have a long way to go before the season can be classed as a complete success, but as we all know talking about future potential and excitement is what football football fans live for

Good luck to you in you small minded world

    No 6,
Have you been drinking a liquid normally associated with cleaning combs?
As we are no longer on the stock market our shares are frozen, as for the you have not acheieved anything yet, i suppose you are in some way correct, but we are still in may with 11 games to go and a semi final to look forward to.
Personally even if we do not go up this season i would still back Mowbray and look forward to next season safe in the knowledge that it will be just as entertaining as this one. Yes i would be disappointed, but more for the players and staff than myself. This season has been complete value for money and a load of fun.
You will not see me crying at Wembley even if we lose 10-0. Never felt as happy to be a Baggie!!
And to all other baggies i will be in the Sportsman and then the vine tonight, wearing a brown leather jacket and white t-shirt, i answer to the name of bomber or Jarrod, but please do not start moaning to me about the blogs, i already get enough of that of my friends and family!!

After three straight wins playing what TM calls”effective” although I would call it “commonsence” football,we are now going back to”classic”or would the term be “gung-ho”type football. The majority of supporters going up tonight now believe its going to be one way traffic, could be a bit more pressure on the players but when your followig the Peid Piper who worries about that.
