“Hang on a minute lads, I’ve got a great idea. Err. .”
How about taking a trio of Minis round the country to mark the remastering of the 1960s crime caper movie The Italian Job?
The red, white and blue Coopers pulled into Molineux car park today to promote the season of films being shown to mark Michael Caine’s 75th birthday.
The producers needed some 30 Mini Coopers for the filming but they took such a pasting during the stunts that none have survived.
In 2006 the number plates from the cars were sold at auction for £19,800.
Now four brothers from the West Midlands have dedicated much of their time to restoring Mini Coopers to resemble the cars in the film.
One, Coventry man Gareth Davies, learned to drive in a Mini and became hooked on the film at the age of 13.
“I must have watched the film thousands of times trying to make sure we got everything right about the cars, detail,” he said.
The Minis have been touring the country promoting Sky’s forthcoming season of Michael Caine films, which begin on Sunday.
