Albion have the hunger: Robbo
Wednesday 5th March 2008, 11:29AM GMT.
Fans’ favourite Paul Robinson today pinpointed hunger as the X-factor that he believes will drive Albion into the Premier League.
The Baggies gave their promotion push a massive boost last night with a last-gasp victory at Sheffield Wednesday that put their promotion bid back in their own hands.
And Robinson followed up the win with a rousing endorsement of the strength he believes sets Albion’s current team apart from last season’s side.
“We know what we want to achieve this year and that’s promotion,” said Robinson.
“We’re showing that now. There is a willingness and determination about us, not just the back-four, but the midfielders and strikers are all working hard for each other.
“We’re showing a team that wants to get promoted. I can see that in the eyes in the dressing room.
“There is a determination and hunger to come away with three points.
“The lads are buzzing because these results sometimes don’t come your way but we felt we got the luck breaks last night and deserved the three points.
“Last season we would have lost that game. We got battered there last season.
“We’ve got that determination now as a group of lads and not as individuals.
“We had some talented individuals last season who have gone onto bigger things in the Premier League and fair play to them.
“But we’re a group of players who are working hard together. It’s great to see that in the dressing room – it’s great to be part of.
“You need to grind out results and we did that last night. They defended really well and we have to give them a lot of credit because they made it tough for us. Our quality came out on top in the end.”
And Robinson backed captain Jonathan Greening over the fiery clash that saw Sheffield Wednesday’s Jermaine Johnson sent off.
Johnson was dismissed for using his elbows while Greening was only booked for his retaliation. Robinson said: “Jonno (Greening) says he caught him with his elbows twice so I’m going to stick up for Jonno.”

We are going up in style the Mowbray way, Wolves hate the fact that we are a class act with premiership players, would Luke Moore have gone to Wolves? No way, even Stefan chose Walsall over Wolves..ha ha! They scraped a point last night in the big relegation battle with Southampton!

HEY Cyril and Real Bully!! the powers that be have heeded your prayers. Look at the size of the text box now……You can see everything you type.
As for last night we may have ground out a result, even wrung it out, dug it out, or, extorted it with menaces, it may too have been an ugly win, that we know we need to get from time to time. Despite all its ugliness it was strangely beautiful too.
I mentioned cuticles in a previous post… they took a hammering again last night, but in the end it was worth it………

I must admit,
when i read the headline to this article,
i got a little concerned that the entire squad
were following the dietary guidelines of our recently retired striker.
On a serious note, very good win last night,
more akin to Megson than Mowbray,
but at this juncture….it will do very nice thank you.

problem is though boys, your struggling to get out of a very weak championship. and if you do make it up to the premier, you’ll end up just like derby. you are certainly one of the better teams in this division no question, but all championship sides today are so far behind even the average premier teams it’s near impossible to survive. if you were running away with the division and beating teams easily then you would have a case for optimism, but your not far from it as last night proved, i would still say you’ll get up if you play to your capabilities, but without major investment on several quality players i forsee a very quick return to this division. yes it’s nice to go up even nicer to stay up. but this team you’ve got now ( like wolves ) is nowhere near good enough for survival in the premier. i just hope if you do get promoted it doesn’t end up a big anti-climax and you come straight back down, where’s the fun in that.

Kightly’s gonna get you Robbo… someday.
You dirty scumbag! lol
In all honesty, despite my inherent dislike of the Tescos, I would rather see you lot promoted than ‘hoof & hope’ merchants Watford or Stoke.. at least you play some good stuff and could hopefully grace the top flight better than either of those clubs. WBA & Bristol City to go up, along with Wolves via the play-offs… only kidding! Charlton to win at Wembley.

All i ever seem to hear is pessimistic thoughts, comments, and observations from Wolves fans. The Wolves fans are in an ever increasing spiral of doom and gloom. I understand that the gulf is huge betweent he divisions but what shall we all do? Just give in and not try to take steps towards bridging the gap?
You lot might be down on your luck and constantly moaning, but us Baggies are right behind our team and manager and doing our best to inspire them towards our goals.
Come on mate cheer up, some positivity might even rub off on your team!!

I know where you’re coming from but have to agree with Bomber. What are you suggesting? Should all of the championship clubs stop trying? If we do go up, I like most of our fans with a few honourable exceptions will do so full of hope and expectation, if we come down again, more parachute money to fuel the following years push towards the greed league. It’s not great but I can’t see us ever getting back to the good old days when anyone even a Wimbledon can go to the Ball. Cinderella is dead the very ugly sisters Man Ure and Arse—e have murdered her.
PS.Born and bred.
I don’t know about Cyril but the right hand end of my comment box still disappears into the great blue yonder. But thanks for trying to cheer me up, it worked for a minute.

The fact is that we know that it is very difficult to play your way out of this league, which is what we are doing. It is much easier to play the Stoke way and go up. Derby played the same as Stoke last season and, yes, they are getting hammered.
Don’t forget we are having a very successful cup run which is taking its toll, as it did last season when we never got over losing to boro.
Also we have almost a completely new team….and to be honest i thought we would be just top six untill they got chance to gel. They have exceeded my expectations, for sure.
With your mentality, no one should even try and go up, cause that team will only get hammered when they are up there anyway. i think that is indicative of alot of wolves fans at the moment. The fact is that you would LOVE to be in the position we are in.Perhaps if you backed your talented manager and had a bit of patience then your team would be doing better,
Us albion fans do want to beat the wolves, but we really dont see you as rivals any more.We have bigger fish to fry. That is why beating the albion is the highlight of your season….and just a little bonus for us. To be honest, we see beating you as a given these days…its just a matter by how much.
To the more rational fans out there…as a baggie i would love to see the albion and wolves duke it out in the prem. So good luck this season, apart from against us and i hope that you can eradicate your moaning, depressive fans as you have alot to look forward to in comparison to other seasons.

Optimistic wolf, empty seats there were plenty at the custard bowl last night.Theres a slight chance we wont win win the cup or promtion but weve seen some great football and 85 goals so far and its only the first week in march.

that’s the biggest load of tripe ive ever heard.
you are already trying to dampen down the wolves v sandwell game just in case you dont win.
not looked upon as rivals.
and beating you is not the highlight of our season thats just what you sandwell fans think because you all think you are superior to everyone in this division.
well you are not that is why you are not clear at the top.
come back to planet earth.

ok look at it this way. i’m not saying the championship clubs shouldn’t try for promotion, of course they should. but once up it’s out of our hands, then you need the club to put their money where there mouths are. and most don’t as sir jack proved with us, 19 years of trying and finally make it, then not interested just left them to it. and straight back down. perhaps your chairman and board will spend millions for the right players to keep you up, but only they know the answer to that.
Us albion fans do want to beat the wolves, but we really dont see you as rivals any more.We have bigger fish to fry. That is why beating the albion is the highlight of your season….and just a little bonus for us. To be honest, we see beating you as a given these days…its just a matter by how much.
what a complete load of rubbish, yes your seasoned pro’s gave our young guns a few lessons last season, no denying that. different story this season tho’ and don’t expect it easy at the molineux.

luke moore, ha ha ha. couldn’t hack it at villa, and hardly a regular in your first team either. send him down the molineux by all means, and he can clean the boots of a class act like michael kightley.
that’s one of the very few mcarthy decisions i do agree with, to ignore luke moore and sign kevin kyle.

We are all jealous of your jet set life style – bet Randy Learner looks up to you…
p.s – as 21 said – EVERY true footy fan knew Tony Mowbray the player – I admit to not have followed him too closely at Hibs – but whats your point ??
p.p.s – where has WHU gone – he was everywhere yesterday, but disappeared as they got spanked 4.0 – just another idiot made to look foolish.
