Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Wolves 2 Saints 2
Tuesday 4th March 2008, 10:40PM GMT.
Wolves’ play off push was dented by a late Southampton equaliser at Molineux.
Jason Euell’s 94th minute leveller denied the home side three much needed points.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake put Wolves in front on the hour before Gregory Vignal equalised from the penalty spot after Kevin Foley fouled David McGoldrick.
Ten minutes later Vignal was red carded and soon after Wolves went back in front.
Ebanks-Blake looked to have earned Mick McCarthy’s men a third successive win when hevolleyed in Andy Keogh’s knockdown two minutes from time.
But relegation threatened Southampton, who won 6-0 in the same fixture last season, hit back at the death when Euell headed Mario Licka’s cross past Wayne Hennessey.
The draw leaves Wolves four points outside the play-offs in tenth place.

just back from match, not a great performance but thought we had got the win, dodgy penalty by the look of it would like to see a replay, but as for the last goal 11 men against 10 men but euell has a free run unmarked to head the equalizer?? who was his marker?? we are an average championship side and the sooner wolves fans realise this the better,we are not good enough to go up

Gutted absolutely gutted, I am furious, don’t remember being so angry or frustrated after a football match. Although we weren’t great we have been absolutely robbed!
Thought Elokobi looked very naive, showed some good touches but looked very raw and very much the unfinished article for most of the game, still think he might be one for the future.
Henry had a mare but I can’t believe the idiots who cheer so loudly when he is subbed. He has been a good player for the Wolves over the past couple of seasons and this is yet another example of some of the fickle idiots who blight our club.
Should have won it tonight the only concern for me is that the players left that pitch with their heads in their hands and I fear that may dent their confidence for the run in. It feels like we have lost tonight!

gutted dont know what to say we should have had 3 points in the bag letting 10 men equalise in the last minute i’m afraid will come back to haunt us. again a very average division and we keep failing at home. unfortunately i don’t think we are anywhere near as good as we think we are. the wrong players bought in and we did not strengthen the areas we needed too. really disappointed. i’d like too say sort it out mick but i #’m beginning too think he is incapable
Report abuse
We didn’t deserve to win. Rubbish performance again with the exception of Blake and surprisingly Kyle. Henry is shocking at the moment he has to be dropped. Also WHY WHY is Foley so reluctant to get forward???
No excuses for the last minute equaliser we were poor from start to finish, why do we need to go hell for leather for the last 15 minutes of every match when we should do it from the start. Once again Freddy looked like he had a major point to prove and only had around 15-20 mins to try it. Thank heavens for e-banks coz we’d be in the bottom three by now otherwise. Sorry Mick but everyone within earshot of me in the Southbank wants you out at the end of the Season and we never want another season as dire as this one.

Threw the game away! Basic defensive errors. Should have started Keogh and Potter, but quality finishing from SEB! Schoolboy errors!

absolute rubbish, our home form is diabolical. and with a run of hard games comming up, thank god this season will now be over very quickly.
i’ll leave it at that because i’m just to angry to say anything constructive. 4 points off the play off places now, and that gap will just get bigger over the next few weeks. last season was a joy and all wolves fans deserved something to cheer about, but back to normal now. i suppose there’s always next season, but then again thats what we say every year.

total and utter rubbish. if their supposed to be struggling then what the hell does that make us. blake was the only player on the pitch who deserved to wear the shirt. season over boys and believe me, there needs to be major changes in the summer. most of this lot need moving out before any new signings are concidered. mr morgan i hope you’ve seen enough now to realise that major investment will be needed in the summer, forget the bargain basement and get some quality in. you say you want the best for wolves. well in business as you well know, you need to spend money to make money. and in football today you only get that in the premier.
im sorry but if by any miracle, we get into the play offs this season then its keeping mr mccarthy in a job> .This season, espesically at home, the molineux ground has hardly seen a game with any quailty and promise for next season, when as so-called super-mick? said we were aiming for the premier league? This masn has had his day, and finally proved hopefully to mr steven morgan, that he has,nt got what it takes! Its getting quite boring now, naming Mccarthys faults! There are so Many! He has his favorites, who are simply not good enough and if i was one of Mark little, daniel jones, elliott bennett, steven gleeson,or Before you mccarthy brainwashed lovers say Mark davies And Lewis Gobern Are Injured? only Gobern is now, This Boring One Toned stubborn joke has lost the plot!

A game which for large parts was incredibly low on quality. Wolves threw it away in the end and how someone can be allowed a free header in the last attack is unbelievable, but a draw was probably a fair score over the 90 minutes. Wolves were better after the substitutions and I hope we go into the next game with the team looking more like the one we ended with rather than the one that started.
What’s new?
The simple fact of the matter here and for the season so far, is that, this division is possibly the weakest it has been for as long as i can remember. Wolves should be bossing this division a lot better than we have so far this season. Im not saying we should be top, just pushing for the top 2 or 3 places, as there is little quality in this division this season. The fact that we are not is much down to the backrooom staff at wolves, mick, the coaching staff, etc. It is time for a regime change more than anything. I think a change of manager, bringing in some new coaches would do the world of good. The team just needsx freshening up. The slate needs to be wiped clean, no playing of favourites for example, and we may just taste promotion again.
Sorry mick, its time to go.
An ideal opportunity to prove we are real play off material is lost in a tedious, bland, clueless and tactically inept display orchestrated by a manager whom I have completely lost faith in. But heh, what do I know…I’m just a nugget !!!!
By the way Mick, having players on the posts when defending a corner has, is and always will be a good idea !!! ( that has cost us 2 goals in the last 2 home games !!) But I’m sure that is obvious…you know being an ex defender yourself !!!!

Let’s just relax, and try and enjoy what is left of the season. Ebanks-Blake is looking better and better. Something to build on next season.
Next season will be different, with a manager who doesn’t try to insult the fans whenever he opens his mouth.
FOR GODS SAKE, JUST GO MCCARTHY
Report abuse
Wolves by all accounts were typically dismal once again at Molineux. I wasn’t at the game but throwing away two points having taken an unlikely lead with minutes remaining is disgraceful. It’s easy to blame McCarthy, but it’s the players who should be held accountable. As for the manager himself, he should be given until the end of the season and possibly replaced if there’s someone better available.
Don’t get too distressed Wolves fans. We must accept that we are a totally average team in this totally mediocre division and last night was a standard example. Two appalling teams, kicking the ball anywhere, no skill or flair at all, no confidence or quality, just attempting to out-muscle and out-organise each other. Several people sitting around me didn’t even return to their seats after half-time, it was that poor. Who can blame them? He played an attacking formation, but there isn’t enough quality against hardworking defences. I just wish the manager could see that Eastwood is the ‘impact’ player the side needs, but he is never given long enough to prove it.

Why play Kyle in front of Keogh and Eastwood?
Why hasn’t Mick bought a decent center half despite us needing one for 18 months now.

first half a bit boring , 2nd half a bit more passing and less hoofing, but the rousing cheer when we had our first shot on target(2nd half!) said it all. we really let a very sub standard southampton side off the hook, especially after losing a man when it was virtually all one way, -30 secs left + ball near corner flag=ROW Z !!

Why did there player get sent off? Someone behind me said he spat in SEB’s face?
Karl Henry was a complete joke. Elliot is not a winger! Collins is a not a footballer! IMO i thought Kevin Kyle played well but shouldn’t of started, should have used him like he did V Palace and Colchester. At least we have found out goalscorer, so let build a team around him. Elokobi did realy well four the second goal but seems to be playing the long ball to much. (but so do the other 3 defenders!)

Henry & Elliott: Obviously not up to it, so why doesn’t MM see this ?
Collins: Enough said
Foley: Alarming loss of form
Kyle: How can a player with his height and strength continously get knocked over and win very little in the air against players half his size ?
Breen : Wolves MOM by a mile

Not a good performance but still should have won. Never a penalty and poor marking. Hennessey has to shoulder some of the blame. Anything in the 6 yard box he should come for. We should not be starting with Kyle. MM keeps praising him up as an impact player , so keep him in reserve on the bench.
As for you Albion fans, who I heard were fortunate last night. Greening was hacking at Johnson before he got sent off, apparently. We will wipe the smiles off your face when you lose again at Molineux.

1.The reason Floey does not get forward is because is has Elliot in front of him and he is not used to playing there and covering for a overlapping fullback
2.It was a very poor game but to be honest Rooney and Co would find it hard to play in front of our crowd at the moment, there is so much negatiivtey around the place it must be damn hard to play football there.
3.Yes Henry is poor at the moment but remember we paid £5ok for him and that what he is now showing, yes drop him for a bit.
4.Kyle was decent last night however we just banged the ball up front time and time again very naive Mick im afraid.
5.It was funny to here a few “nuggets”singing for Steve Bull last night for manager, coach, god etc not realising that the mighty Stafford we losing 4-0 at half time.
6.MM has dropped some cogs this season, but cmon theres a few games left cheer the place up aNd dont make the players scared to play down here, which is quite evident whats happening.
7. For Eastwood lovers we need a box player,in 16 mins he entered the box twice once beating two player on a run b4 falling over his left foot and the 2nd time was to shakes someones hand at the end of the game.

Hate to say I’m right but I predicted a 2-2 on this messageboard yesterday afternoon. Defending at the far post for their second goal was abysmal – shows that you need to concentrate for 90+ minutes if you want to win anything. On the positive side, SEB looks a quality player and should hopefully score plenty of goals for us – took his first goal extremely well and his second wasn’t too shabby either! MM needs to get it sorted for the Preston match – they are no pushover at Deepdale, I predict another 3-5-1!

I know you are giving your thoughts on the season as a whole, but you have just taken 7 points from a possible 9, thats promotion form!!! if you continue with that ratio you will easily make the playoffs.
I know last minute goals are a killer, but with SEB up front you now look like scoring enough goals to get to the playoffs. Maybe if the fans generate some positivity it could rub off on your players??

Went to the match last night, 1st half was abolsutely awful. Why he plays KK before Freddie and A.K is beyond me, but what do I know I am only a nugget. Second half was better, especially with the changes, more passion and drive but lacking in real quality. I hope wolves fans realise that we are not going to make the play offs, the players we have at our disposal are not good enough, we have a manager who has gone bonkers, lost in his own hype and is happy to berate the fans rather than looking a little closer to home. Even now he doesnt know his best forward partnership where most fans probably would now say its SEB & Freddie but he wont play Freddie. Its a long list of fatally flawed decisions which has destroyed which was at the start of the season something of real promise. He doesnt know what he is doing, MM is a donut and a thicko and I hope to god Steve Morgan see’s enough of this shambles of a manager to sack him in the summer and not to give him another penny. A last minute equaliser sums it up, surely with an extra man advantage you are able to defend a set piece. This draw feels like a loss. He needs to get sacked and I hope Paul Ince is installed as the new manager. Young brash no nonsense with alot of passion to what wolves fans like to see. If people bang on about he is not experienced enough then have a look at Roy Keane and what he has done for sunderland!
MICK MUST GO!

95 Martin – So MM has a 3 year plan? Can you remind us all what MM said publicly – more than once at the start of the season – (give you a clue – it had something to do with Top 2 finish and being very happy with his squad)
Some people call the fans “fickle” – when in reality the club, Moxey and MM are fickle with what they say and also tactics
IF MM could manage to keep his big gob shut instead of spouting off about what he will achieve blah blah blah – then fans would have more respect for the man – one minute its the fans the next the players – again no mention of MM taking any blame for lack of defensive abillity/ tactics
Comment 73 Super Saint – Hows the best manager Saints have ever had getting on these days? – Ah yes he is the manager of Pompey – Play Up Arry, Arry Play Up – the ONLY team on the Saarf Coast

Sad to see that Hennessys mistake cost us two points. Lesson no 1 at goalkeepers school: Always place a defender close to each post when the other team has a corner. Lesson no 2: Always place the wall at one side and yourself at the other side of the goal when the other team has a dangerous freekick. Unfortunately Hennessy (and Murray) make the same mistakes time after time again, but no one understands the problem and educates them. This time it was the corner problem that cost us and it was for the second time this season. The free kick problem costs us about 2-3 goal per season. Worst example: Colchester away last season (Murray).
and.. McCarthy will not read this and we will drop more points because of a silly problem.
