It seems no-one at the Council House will escape unscathed.

Wolves kept their promotion dream alive with a crucial win at Selhurst Park.
A superb Michael Gray goal on 76 minutes lifted a drab encounter before substitute Kevin Kyle wrapped up the points with a minute remaining.
Gray’s outstanding curling shot was a bolt out of the blue in a game of few chances but there will be few of a gold and black persuasion complaining about the performance as Wolves close the gap between them and the play-offs.
Boss Mick McCarthy had opted to strengthen the spine of his side by playing 4-5-1 from the start and it paid off with a resolute defensive effort for the first three quarters of the game.
And when Gray cut in from the left after Darren Potter’s strike had cannoned off a Palace defender and lifted the ball over Speroni it gave Wolves a crucial break through.
Up to that point Wolves had looked unlikely to make a break through with only Elliott’s long range shot which was tipped over by Speroni and Jody Craddock’s header from the resulting corner to show for their efforts.
But Palace had hardly threatened either and apart from a few half chances they rarely troubled Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal.
After Gray’s strike The Eagles mounted a brief counter attack but it was Wolves who got the decisive goal when Collin’s through ball was latched onto by substitute Kevin Kyle and he turned and shot past Speroni.
Wolves stood firm at the end and apart from an injury to Hennessey which saw him taken off after being barged in the box.

Back in business !!! hopefully confidence is back and good to see Kyle get his first goal

Not a team selection I thought would reap dividends but an excellent win. Be nice to think this could lead to a change of fortunes but Wolves fans know not to get too encouraged by one result. But as ever we live in hope.

good game well done

Great result, hope Wayne is OK.

Excellent result. Well done Mick and the team. We never doubted you.

Great result. Please repeat for the next 13 games lads!

Kuqi on the transfer list. Yes please, I think he would be a good target man for us.

Well done MM and the lads – confidence is everything so lets build on this – Potter assist for Gray and Collins assist for Kyle – anything is possible!

.. it was a good win, but premiership hopes alive, way toooo many pies and pints to say that. We still have a terrible team, unreliable and uncertain.
If we pull our belts in and realise we will be in the championship league next season we will allow ourself a certain amount of satisfaction. This year moving up isn’t going to happen.
Always great to win, but we have already won a few this season only to find MM lose his way for the next game.
great game more of the same for the rest of the season

Best goal I’ve seen this season. ‘Superb’ sum it up precisely and for me as good as Ronaldo’s a couple of weeks ago. Kyles effort wasn’t bad either a classic counter attack which can often be easier to miss than score but he took it well. Hope Hennessy’s not too bad took a real clattering but didn’t wimp about it like their goalie Speroni just like my old gran.

Hoorar.. finally Kyle is off the mark..
After missing soo many clear cut chances he finally manages to score a goal.. and a pretty decent sounding one. well done.. now lets see some more of the same please :)

This was the first time all of Micks signings and Craddock and Breen have come together and we win. Not very pretty as someone said earlier this week but we won.
Maybe this is yet another false dawn but we are very hard to score against when C and B are about and now we do have players who worry defenders and who know where the goal is. we are also pretty er forceful when competing for the ball. Several Palce players will be nursing bruises this evening.
What a day. better not get carriued away but it just might be that mick has a team that can push up the league.
Roll on Colchester. great little town and several very pleasant pubs….See you there

What? No Baggie fans on here crowing?

Don’t know about anyone else, but Wolves won, Baggies lost and the missus is going out for the day……..should be a very nice Sunday.

I went. A very very poor match, but we ground at the win, we deserved and have at least given ourselves something to start building from [again]. The combination of Craddock & Breen looks more than good enough for this league, fingers crossed that they can last till the end of an extended season. Interesting to see how patient Palace fans are compared to us at home. If we had set-up and played like that [they looked like they were playing away] the booing and abuse would have kicked in within 15 mins. However the Palace, aside of frustration with Kuqi, are accepting that this is work in progress. We need to adjust otherwise I have a nasty feeling that next season Palace will be competing fo promotion while we are playing out another typical Wolves campaign.

this does not change anything.looking beyond the score, more weird team selections players and positions.a boring/negative performance and two great strikes does not mean we can suddenly score goals.potter, kyle, elliot, collins, breen, gray still not good enough for this division never mind the prem.performance no better than lots of games we lost.mm and moxey must go,this just delays things!

Not bad’ not bad at all a very much improved performance and a confidence boost not only for the manager, players, but the fans also. what a difference a win does for moral, lets all unite for the club until the end of the season we need to give them 100% backing, then we can reflect on what might be or what could have been.
good win down there. but still need to be more dangerous attacking. thought gray and elokobi were superb down the left. when jarvis fit worth considering playing him down the right while kightly out. up the wolves!
C’mon you Wolves! Nice results. Just hoping MM
plays the winning team unless injuries permits.
Cheers!

Why complain about the selection. Against palace whose attack is pretty good, it was sensible to pack the midfireld. We still had better chances than them. It was going to be an ugly game and Micks selection meant that we were prepared for it. Give credit when it’s due. MICK GOT IT RIGHT

Baggies fan, not on here crowing, not much to crow about today. Nice to see the genuine fans on here, all the idiots are over on our site spouting the usual hate filled rubbish. Good day for you, let’s hope for more for both of us and for West Midlands football.

Fans from both my teams (Wolves in football and the Montreal Canadiens in ice hockey) are the same: the team loses one game and everybody wants to sack the coach. They win the next game and everyone unites behind him…
I guess that’s called “passionate fans”, not a bad thing I suppose.

good result in a dull match,it had 0-0 written all over it before Gray’s wonder strike, still I will take the points and pray that it continues at Colchester next week.Come on you Wolves !!!!!!!!!

That game as paul franks and the w.m. team said before michael gray scored his long range screamer was one of the worst games they,ve ever seen? Okay, fair play it was a good result but how come neil collins comes straight back into the team? we once again play no natural wingers? before anyone moans! what about Elliott bennett? on loan and being treated just like dan jones, mark little, mark davies, and steven gleeson? I cant believe that steven gleeson has been sent to hereford? Your trying to tell me that Karl Henry? Darren Potter? have more of a chance of playing in the premier league than him? one lucky result does not change the season around in my opinion, We are not going to improve long term with this joke in charge, and most wolves fans must agree? For gods sake we have seven strikers at the club and we are the worst scorers in the league? And before any mccarthy lover, reponds i have been watching wolves since 1986, and this is the most down ive ever felt!
Th result was positive but from now till the end of the season we need to grind results out just to get some confidence back, still think we have thrown the season away a long time ago and unless we do as per previous sentence then we’ll stay mid table
Is this not what Stoke have been doing for a while now? Look where they are, but then their players play in their own positions and to their strengths so not worth dreaming too highly
Report abuse
I hate to say this, and it might sound bizarre, but this is the worst possible result we could have hoped for. A reprieve for McCarthy is not what we needed. Two goals scored by his old Sunderland mates gives him temporary justification for his ridiculous team selections over the last few months. I still believe that last season was an aberration, he bought players and they played a brand of football that wasn’t planned. This season we are seeing the brand of football that MM wants to see. Any reprieve for Mick McCarthy is a delay in our great club’s progress. I keep asking myself why I can be disappointed with Wolves winning, I hope I have explained why.

I want to believe mick, that this is the turnaround we have all been praying for.
You did so much good work last season bailing out a sinkinng ship (thanks hoddle), i want wolves to work for you and you to work for wolves.
But please offload TC he doesnt exactly have a good track-record at wolves.
At least you have chosen not to bear with ward at the back, turning to the trusted ‘war-horses’ of craddock and breen, who can never be accused of giving less than 100%
‘One swallow doesnt make a summer’ however a result over mr warnock away deserves alot of credit.
YET … if we lose either breen or craddock and dont get support in on loan we are resigned to mid-table.
Best of luck MM and the lads, give us something this season and save your job then we can ick on next season.

A Wolves win!
Great, that makes 12 wins out of 33 attempts!
Another 7 or 8 wins might see us into the play offs. It was a terrible game and had mid-table written all over it. At least one of our strikers actually scored a goal!
Michael Gray has a chance of player of the season for me!
Sandwell Massive, I really wish you would change the record regarding people who would like to see the back of McCarthy. It doesn’t make them Albion fans. Why don’t you stop drawing attention to the fact that you can’t spell and behave like a 10 year old?

Went to your game with a mate who is a ww fan tell you what both you and palace would not last 2 weeks in the prem both of you were crap total. Some of you on this site have never seen any decent football or are blind and just told you play well, your team are a shamble, lets face it many of them are failed mackems, who came down with your idiot manager having gained the lowest ever points in the prem, this is why MM signed them so that If and it would be a massive if you ever gain promotion MM can then come back down with WW gaining that award lowest points from his beloved Sunderland, wake up and start watching proper football, you lot amaze me 1 win and look at you on here you must be the thickest people in football Division 2 teams have more ideas

Get well kent wolf good fellow fans no one took your offer up because they all sit at home and listen on the radio Breretonwolf LCW bet they have never been outside W-Ton

It’s great to see a general sea-change in the mood of those posting after this win against Palace away. Perhaps we are in a good position to mount a gradual charge up the league. Whereas the baggies might just be showing signs of creaking a little under the expectation they have created for themselves. Don’t be surprised if we manage to finish above them, stranger things have happened. Come on you Wolves!

You have got a good team, but that doesn’t mean that you will go up!
You probably had the best squad last season too, but you failed then!
For what it’s worth I think you will still go up automatically this season, but I also don’t think you can afford to loose too many more games.
I think Watford will do ok if they go up and a couple of others (Ipswitch, Charlton). I think that everything about this league is over hyped. There are no really good teams this season, No run away leaders in the Bolton/Reading mold. Those are the type of teams that tend to survive promotion!
