This is the life as Amy wows crowd

Amy McDonaldLess than four months ago she had to pull out of a gig at Wolverhampton’s Little Civic due to illness.

But Scots lass Amy Macdonald made a triumphant return to the city last night where she performed to a sold out Wulfrun Hall – nearly 10 times the size of the Little Civic with a capacity of 1,134.

Since she was originally due to perform in Wolverhampton in October, the teenager’s star has soared thanks to her debut album This Is The Life topping the charts. She took to the stage to the sound of bagpipes and launched into one of her most famous songs to date, also titled This Is The Life.

The star confessed to feeling a little tired but it certainly didn’t show as her powerful vocals, which defy her young age, shone through on her catchy folk-blues songs. The most popular song of the night was her biggest hit to date Mr Rock and Roll, which had almost everyone in the audience bopping about and clapping along.

And fans were repaid for their enthusiasm when she was joined by Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Craddock on stage for a raucous version of The Riverboat Song, which went down a storm.

She also attempted her take on The Killers’ Mr Brightside which also got a good reaction from the crowd – a brilliant show.

Absolutely brilliant show. Amy was genuinely moved by the fact that “people know all the words to these songs which I wrote sitting on my bed!”

She projected the songs with energy, enjoyment and proud of her sonwriting.

She said that she didn’t consider herself famous, wasn’t interested in the fame and just was in the business to have people enjoying her performing her songs.

She played 2 new songs, the second of which was “poignant” and she admitted was best received. She said she’d been asked if she’d got another album in the pipeline. This was when she’d written the new songs -in a 2 week break at Christmas. Whilst on tour she has no time to write but I think that there is enough in the current album to keep her fans happy and that she will come up with enough good material to keep them happy for years to come.

The only problem with the popularity is that it means we probably won’t see her in the more intimate venues like Wulfrun Hall but lose her to places like the NEC Arena. Still, no one can take away a magical night, leaning on the crowd barrier 10 feet from this exceptional talent. Thanks Amy, I’m jealous of the fans with tickets for the upcomimg shows!
