Blackpool 0 Wolves 0
Tuesday 12th February 2008, 9:25PM GMT.
Wolves were unable to boost their play off push as they left Blackpool with a point.
Sylvan Ebanks-Blake hit the post in the second half and Andy Keogh spurned a late opportunity to grab all three points for Mick McCarthy’s men.
The visitors had the better of the first 45 minutes with Matt Jarvis and Keogh both shooting narrowly wide.
Paul Dickov offered the home side’s main threat, twice going close.
Wolves managed to earn a clean sheet and were helped by debutant George Elokobi, who started in place of Michael Gray, and the returning Gary Breen.
They were given a scare in the second half when Gary Taylor-Fletcher hit the upright and Wes Hoolahan also threatened.
At the other end, Ebanks-Blake had a penalty appeal waved away, Kevin Kyle saw two headers go close and Keogh fired over from eight yards.
The draw leaves the Molineux men marooned in mid-table.

Always been optimistic, always kept the faith but everyone has their limits! Can we still do it….I don’t know! Is MM still the man for the job….I don’t know! I despair at the sorry state of the Wolves at the moment whilst smaller clubs like Bristol, Watford and Stoke blaze a trail, it really is depressing!!!

In under 3 months we have gone from 3rd to 12th and have collected 11 points out of 39. Relegation form, cannot remember such a poor run of form for years. Waiting to hear what Mick has to say about performance!
Just simply not good enough, we are now nothing better than a mid table team.

Mick come on!! WHY are you not bringing on Mr Eastwood when we are 0-0. To bring him on at 90 min shows you not to be the sort of man I wish to manage my team any more. Grow up or Give up – Season ticket holder Billy Wright

So unlucky, what more did they have to do, hitting the post and everything. Have Blackpool been this unlucky all season?
Still we could win the cup!

err…just 4 points off the play-offs…can not wait to hear the latest excuses…look how decisive the Coventry board have been getting rid of Dowie (another old fashioned manager like McCarthy)…whilst Morgan and Moxey sleepwalk to disaster…i almost think the fans should start cheering FOR McCarthy now just to make sure Morgan keeps pouring his money into the bottomless pit…the guy is just a scouse reject who has no loyalty to this club, doesn’t share our passion and doesn’t give a fig for the club or its fans he clearly just wants to play at being a football chairman

and as for bringing eastwood on at 90mins well thats just rubbing the guys nose in it

Why was Rob Edwards dropped and not that pratt Darren Ward? Mick has his favourites which are obviously not the fans favourites. Stubborn pratt, really makes me angry. Bringing Freddie on at 90 mins, dropping Micky Gray who was by far our best player against Stoke, Darren Ward was nowhere on Sat did and SFA yet because and only because he’s a) ex Sunderland and b) one of Mick’s favourites that he must play to satisfy his self ego. Elokobi could play CB and if he was gonna drop any defenders then Ward should have been the guy. 4-3-3 is not the way we can play with our type of squad, what chance has Jarvis of playing winger from that position? Clueless twit McCarthy
Report abuse
What on earth are you guys shouting for Freddie for? The guy has proved nothing! Is about as interested as Jay Bothroyd and has about as much claim to a shirt as I do! If you all started to put as much effort behind the team as you do moaning about this guy who moans all the time then we would be storming this league!

.. can’t wait for MM’s comments, he was right about being near the top, unfortunately its the top of the next division based on this debacle…so I noted we lost 4-1 saturday and he kept about the same team? Just how did he think we could possibly win?

Seems to me that Mr McCarty has travelled far with very little petrol. Its blatant that last season was nothing to do with him but the youngsters he had to rely upon .. and these lads had passion and fight. Now he’s had OUR money to spend (dont be fooled into thinking that its Morgans dosh he is spending) and done things his way Mental Micky has thrown away all that was good and surrounded himself with players that make HIM feel comfortable. Mad Mick is taking the Mickey ….. OUT NOW.

I dont think Mick has a clue!
Why does he bring Eastwood on in the last 2 minutes?!?! and expects him to make a differene!
We are a big club and have some great players so why are we drawing to teams like Blackpool??
I reckon MM should go, we’d do alot better without him!

Well I was happy with the clean sheet, that pleases me. It was only Blackpool though. I like mm. He is genuine. This is the first time since i have been a season ticket holder that the team has actually played crap while the early bird has been running. So thanks mick for making my mind up for me! Now i know people will say mccarthy is temporary wolves is forever but when finances are a little tight and you have to make tough decisions it doesn`t help when you have a manager who you can`t trust or believe in. mr morgan get rid and give us some inspiration

Im neither for or against Eastwood but why does MM keep trying to humiliate him, bringing him on in the last min in a game we must win !!!
Mad Mick is getting madder by each passing game.
Positives: Clean sheet after letting in 4 at the weekend.
Negatives: Is there enough space? Should Freddy be left until the 90th minute. According to other reports he says he will leave if he doesn’t get a decent run in the team and who can blame him.
Mick’s club is no longer the Wolves. Just a place to recruit his old Sunderland crocks.

I said at the start of the season that by March we would all be calculating how many wins we would need to make the play offs. I realise now that I was too bl**dy optimistic !

So thats now 2 wins out of the last 14 league games for Wolves. That is on a par with Scunthorpe and only one less than Colchester in the same period. Still, must not complain otherwise I will be referred to as a whinger or a boo boy or someone that has too high expectations.
Maybe we must stay positive and admire MM’s man management skills. Bringing Eastwood on after 89.5 minutes was a masterstroke and must have made the striker realise he still has a vital role to play at the club.

1. What do you know about football that means that your opinions are better informed than that of a top rate manager? Just compare your footballing cvs please.
2. Who is this godlike figure Freddy? 5 goals in his last 50 Championship performances and then has the cheek to say he might go! Bothroyd is the same. what a prolific and talented pair they are! I have seen similar players on the playing fields of Wolverhampton. Lack of work ethic and discipline but plenty of talent and loads of gobby mates. That’s partly why they are not pros! Freddy and Bothroyd are like the players who took us down the divisions in the eighties – losers!
3.Wouldn’t like to manage some of you experts. Too argumentative and opinionated!

I was and Wolves played well. If Keogh new how to score we’d of definately won. Id drop him personally, yes he can run all day but he simply doesnt score enough.
0-0 at Blackpool isn’t good enough for a team trying to get in play-offs, but listening to you lot you’d think it was the end of the world.
The effort and fitness last night was very impressive. Breen particulary did well considering it was his first game for a while. We have a good young team, we dont have the quality in depth for automatic, but we dont pay the saft wages which doesnt bother me. Results will come our way, and the playoffs are far from impossible.
Keep the faith. Be positive.

No.32 Your comment doesn’t really make sense, MM’s CV as a top rated manager as you call him should include the fact that the brought both Eastwood and Boothroyd to the Wolves therefore if they are as poor as you claim it is mainly his fault for not seeing that and not buying them as many other Top rated managers may well have done. I have not got on MM’s back much in the past but seeing Kyle be brought in and played is too much for me. he had 6 strikers at the club all of which he purchased and he had zero confidence in them all which says it all he does not know what he is doing.

40-wolveswolves, sorry I couldn’t post on here earlier, but I WAS AT THE GAME!!! The team played well, and a point at Blackpool in other circumstances would not have been a bad result. Obviously, with us now four points off the play-offs it was disappointing. (Take a look at how many teams have won there this season though. Stoke 3-2, Cardiff 1-0 and Norwich 3-1. No-one else, including many of the teams above us.) We created chances and looked sound defensively. (We know, we know, FREDDY WOULD HAVE HAD A HAT-TRICK IN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES IF HE HAD STARTED.) Breen was back, and his organisation skills were noticeacle. We have missed him more than we realised. I thought Elokobi looked quite comfortable on his debut, which bodes well. I must admit that I would not have started Kyle, but he played well again. Eastwood may have needed more time, but he would not have made a difference in my opinion.
By the way, Eastwood should get a game on Saturday. Kyle, Edwards and Ebanks-Blake are all cup-tied. I thought I would tell you that, as it is about knowing your team and football in general. When all you need to do is knock others, you don’t need to know such things. Just bleat, and your fellow sheep will quickly follow. To be honest, I hope Eastwood does play, and I hope he proves me wrong about his being overrated, and that could mean Wolves win, which is always my first concern, unlike the knockers who seem to hate everything about the club except the King of Whingers. No wonder you lot worship him. He’s one of your own.
Liverpool had a player a number of years ago by the name of David Fairclough. He rarely started, but scored 20+ goals in a season. He EARNED his nickname of “Supersub. This lad had a bright shock of red hair, and was Liverpool through and through. You didn’t hear him whinge when he was left out of the starting line-up, even when scoring goals regularly as a substitute. Fairclough came on whenever his manager told him to, and scored even more. Did it get him a regular starting spot? No, but he didn’t whinge, just got on with doing what was best for his team, scoring even more. Freddy, please note!!

i agree with a few posts on here…why buy/bring in bothroyd, keogh, elliott, eastwood,SEB,ward and then think hey im going to loan kevin kyle and start him every match… what does that say to the strikers you purchased mick?? can you really expect to get performances out of them when you are clearly showing contempt in their abilities by doing so?
you also stated you had found your current best pairing in SEB AND keogh….so then you play keogh on the wing for the next 2 matches???

From ITV.com
Manager Mick McCarthy insists he is unconcerned by Wolves’ league position despite losing further ground in the play-off race with a 0-0 draw at Blackpool.
“I’ve not even looked. I’m not bothered at the moment because it will matter come the end of April and beginning of May, so we’ll see where we are then,” he said.
Well I’m bothered, and I’m seething that someone who carries our hopes, takes our “hard earned”, makes comments like this. If this diatribe is not enough to convince Mr Morgan that he’s not up to the job both on and off the pitch I don’t know what is.

Wolves are averaging 1.4 points per game.
14 games to go which means we need to collect at least 2.5 points per game to reach the play offs!
How likely is it that we will change form dramatically?
If we get knocked out of the cup on Saturday we won’t have to endure much more of this. I think that the McCarthy era will be looked back on as one of the most divisive tenures in our history. A spurious survey in the Daily Mail confirms that it is all the fans fault!
I believe that one of the problems we are having as fans is that there are fewer and fewer who can remember when Wolves were a good team. People are getting used to being a mediocre championship side.
Are these the same people that believe McCarthy is a good manager and we have a good young squad. Do you remember when Manchester United had a good young team? Being young or old does not preclude you from being good or bad.
We need more quality from top to bottom if we are going to move forward!
I will sit back and wait for the usual crass comments from the ‘clappers’ about buying Ronaldo and Rooney now or being an albion fan, which is it to be today I wonder?

Didnt go to the game, listened to it on Beacon. To me wolves played for the point, at least they kept a clean sheet. Disappointed to say the least that why did MM put a striker on regardless if its freddie, for the last minute of a match. It is clearly obvious that there is a rift between the 2. Which I find staggering. MM said in the press last week that he going to take more risks and go abit more gung-ho but taking off keough and putting on oli is not gung-ho but is safety first and putting freddie on in the last minute is close on been bullyish! He does need to go, he needs to be sacked, if the board give him more money to waste then its a bad choice to make. 2 wins out of 14 in the league is hardly promotion form.

Perhaps there should be a badge of honour for all the fans who were ‘actually there’
If you were ‘actually there’ does it mean that your opinion counts more?
When I am ‘actually there’ Wolves still look rubbish!
But sometimes when I am not ‘actually there’ they are still rubbish!
I conclude from this that being ‘actually there’ or not won’t make much difference at the end of the season.

Im a big wolves fan and ofcourse would love to see the boys playing to their potential but shouldnt the wolves faithful just quit moaning and start supporting their side. I understand the frustation but booing the team and slaggin them off isnt going to change things for the better. McCarthy was hailed a hero last season and at the start of this one. Are we all so narrow minded to forget this. He has proven he is a good man for the job in the past and if wolves fan get behind him and cheer on the boys on then there is no question the form will improve. In a recent poll, wolves fans were voted the worst in the country for moaning at their team. DONT PROVE THEM RIGHT!! because last season their is no question we were the best.

Two points dropped, only because of the fact we are languishing in 12th. If we were 4th, I would have taken that. Bloomfield Road is not an easy place to go, but Mick has to start getting this team sorted. Still persisting to split SEB and Keogh, to play Kyle. can’t you see, although he wins the majority of balls in the air, he just doesn’t fit our type of football.
Why did he drop Gray? Best player against Stoke.

p.s – I don’t think you are an albion fan – but you should seriously think about it !!

A point at Blackpool would have been a good addition if we had achieved something in previous games
Regardless of comments that MM made to the media last night – we’re gonna need one hell of a run to get into the playoffs as there are more teams lining up in the mix and we struggled against quite a few of them – not a good sign!
MM is treating Freddie with contempt – not something any manager should do as it only causes unrest in the camp, and as others have said the one sure way of causing problems in the team is to bring in a player on loan who also cant hit a barn door and then drop the strikers you have at the club (also bear in mind that Cov fans are having a good laugh at us because of it)
MM has shown that he is clueless and has had the backing financially from the club – yes there have been some good signings BUT the first priority should have been the defence (centre halfs) – D Ward nearly got sent off last night and was lucky to escape – not good enough to warm Crystal Palaces subs bench – but good enough for Wolves?
Very strange that MM was a centre half/ defender but yet we cant defend as a team?
Yes we kept a clean sheet away last night – but does one point make up for 7 goals and 2 home losses back to back – against opposition that could be in the play off mix?
MM must be given a sell by date of end of season or until its mathematically impossible to achieve the play offs – then we need to start looking for a good management team to move us forward
NB* the David Fairclough analogy made us laugh LOL – A player in a squad that was winning league titles, and trophies galore – alongside real World Class internationals :-)

51 Agree with you 100% I remember in the McGarry era when we were finishing 4th in the 1st Division, getting to UEFA cup finals, League cup finals etc and had some of the best players in the country.
It’s a great pity that we had poor management that took us to the 4th division when our rivals in those days Man Utd, Liverpool,Tottenham went from strength to strength.
Most fans who go to Woves now unfortunatly haven’t experienced what we have, and therefore believe we are better than we actually are.
Until Steve Morgan who allegedly tried to buy Liverpool starts to adopt that sort of big time mentality at Wolves, and has a clean sweep from top to bottom we will always remain a very average championship side.
The point about Fairclough was meant to illustrate that people can come off the bench and make a difference if they get their heads right.
As I said in my article, I would not have started with Kevin Kyle. I would have started with Keogh up front, and Edwards at right wing with Oli and Gibson in the centre of midfield. For the record, I would have brought Eastwood on after an hour, but I am not the manager. All I have ever managed is a youth team, which does not qualify me anywhere near to managing Wolves. (Or even Wolves Youth.) (I am not anti-Eastwood either, but think we have better strikers at the club. Kyle is not one of them, but is handy against bigger teams such as Stoke.)
By “proven goalscorer who represented his country” I presume you mean Freddy Eastwood? His country is Wales, (not the best in Europe by any means)and he is only a proven goalscorer in the lower divisions. In the Championship he has scored 14 goals in all, five of which are from the penalty spot. (In well over 50 games.) (That is taking out the games where he has started as a sub.)
I think Eastwood will start on Saturday. (At least I believe he should.) He is certainly better than Bothroyd, and was preferred to him last night, as JB did not even make the bench. Elliott is the other option to play up front, but he will presumably start on the wing.
One more answer to a question I was asked, Edwards IS Cup-tied. He played for Luton Town in the FA Cup this season, and therefore cannot play for us.
Bogota Wolf you are clueless, Freddie may not have scored since August, but how many minutes has he had on the pitch since? It may add up to around 150, as you probably are incapable of working that out it is a game and a half
Brereton Wolf, Fairclough was the only sub allowed in those days and regularly got at least half an hour and take note of his competition up front too. So why should Freddie take note, I think you mean Muppet Thick take note
Glorybox – Spot on, I’m 100% convinced this is what Muppet Thick is tryin to do
I’m sure Bothroyd or Ward will get the nod over Freddie at Cardiff especially as Bothroyd played well there last time, I’m also sure Freddie will come on in injury time once we’re 3-1 down to try and turn the game around. That’ll give him 153 mins on the pitch (Bogota Wolf) but yet another appearance, wow

I wonder what Mr MORGAN thinks I don’t think he is bothered about Wolves he only came to us because he couldn’t buy Liverpool. If he was botthered he would ask MM why he keeps buying sub standard Ex Sunderland players. He would then ask why we play such negative football, why he doesn’t play home grown youngsters. Why is he so stubern and does not give Freddie the chance of an extended run, would any of you bother if you were playing 2 min every month. Its a pity we do not get any streight amnswers from either MM or Mr M.
I BELIEVE THEY DO NOT WANT PROMOTION BECAUSE IT WOULD MEAN SPENDING MONEY.
I will still buy my early bird in the hope we change the manager and get someone in who can take us forward PEARSON would be ideal, he is alao a brilliant coach, and BULLY could work along side him. Sorry thats forward thinking which we don’t do at present.

Whilst thinking about players and managers that remind you of others I came up with this list:
Gary Breen – Bobby Moore
Darren Ward – Terry Butcher
Karl Henry – Graham Souness
Olofijana – Pele
Keogh – Kevin Keegan
oh and….
Mick McCarthy – Fred Dibnah

What’s the difference between this season and last? Mick was brain dead then but had Taff sorting things out and a young team who had come through the ranks understanding the expectation and trying their damndest to live up to those expectations. This season we have clipboard helping him out and a bunch of cronies playing for him who know they’re guaranteed a place so don’t need to worry…this is the real McCarthy and if people like Brereton want to argue they are welcome but as you like your stats take a look at what I’ve said and come back with a reasoned explanation of why I’m wrong

Good morning Happy. I always enjoy your posts, of course you have a pop at us, that’s the fun of coming on here but unlike your baggie pals Worcester and Walsall, or the mental midgets as we call them, your posts are intelligent and are said with an obvious knowledge of the beautiful game. So I ask you has your bubble burst, if only slightly, or are you still confident of finishing in the top two? Go on, be honest, I won’t tell anyone.

72-DudzieWolf, do you really believe Eastwood has had 153 minutes since August? He has started 10 games, had 13 substitute appearances, (most of which he had between 20 and 45 minutes on the pitch) and has scored 3 goals. In his previous season in the Championship he started 41 games, had one substitute appearance, and had 11 goals, 5 of which were penalties. That is his PROVEN ability at Championship level? Below that, he has done well, and was the reason we bought him. He played 34 games in each of his two seasons for Southend in lower leagues, scoring 23 and 21 goals in those seasons. In the Conference he scored 28 goals in 41 games. (All from the official Wolves website.)
As for him not being given a fair crack of the whip, let’s see what games and goals others have. (Again from the official Wolves website.)
Bothroyd 13 starts, 9 sub appearances, 3 goals. (No hero worship.)
Elliott 14 starts, (two of these on the wing) 8 sub appearances, 4 goals. (No hero worship, despite a better goals tally.)
Keogh 23 starts, 8 sub appearances 4 goals. (some like him, but no hero worship.)(Admitedly, more games to get his 4 goals.)
As stated previously, FE is not a proven goalscorer at thsi level.
Some of you finish your articles with, “FACT.” Well, these are “Facts.”

Breretonwolf…..
“By “proven goalscorer who represented his country” I presume you mean Freddy Eastwood? His country is Wales, (not the best in Europe by any means)and he is only a proven goalscorer in the lower divisions.”
We all worship a man who scored hundreds of goals in the lower divisions and represented his country… England, not the best in Europe by any means!!

I think the Wolves fans keep calling for Freddie because we can see how unfair he has been treated. He is the only striker who hasnt been given a decent run in team. Humiliated by MM who has:
1. Put him in the reserves even though he scored
2. Left him on the bench for most matches or put him on for very few minutes
3. Never given him a public support speech as he usually does for his favourites.
Eastwood is no saviour, but he should be given a decent chance.

DeckerUK, please, please don’t tell me that you are comparing Eastwood with Bully? Bully played in a team that reached the semi-finals of the World cup, and went out on penalties to the eventual winners. (Isn’t that one of the best teams in Europe at the time, as the losing finalists were Argentina.) He also scored goals for England at a good ratio to games played.
Comparisons?
Bully would run through brick walls for Wolves.
Eastwood doesn’t run.
Bully was Wolves.
Eastwood is divisive.
Bully would bust a gut to chase down any ball that went forward.
Eastwood stands on the halfway line with hands on hips, until the ball comes to his feet.
Bully carried out defensive duties, and scored goals.
Eastwood thinks defensive duties are beneath him.
Bully was a team player.
Eastwood is all about self.
Please don’t ever compare Eastwood with Bully. It’s a no-brainer.

Couldn’t agree more. Wolves fans want Freddy to succeed for one reason; they want another Bully-like player to worship. But no-one can tell me that Freddy is Wolves through and through! ‘Cos he aint and moaning to the press about an ultimatum of play me or I leave shows that,I can see why MM is reluctant to play him!

Its not mm hitting the bar and blazing over from 3 yards, thought wolves were the better side and looked the more likely to win, however Blackpools home form is superb they have only lost 3 all season.

Wouldn’t dream of it,you made a comment that could be applicable to others, that’s all, and that wasn’t what originally peeved me. The reference to Wales peeved me, you come across as if playing for Wales is no big thing….. for the Welsh it is… and don’t forget there are only 3.5 million of us and, for the majority, egg chasining is more important. We don’t do too bad for the players availablr to us!
Please everyone, take note…. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ENGLISH OR BORN IN WOLVERHAMPTON TO FOLLOW THE WOLVES.
AND NOT EVERYONE FROM SOUTH WALES SUPPORTS CARDIFF OR SWANSEA.
You have your opinions, on here and 606, which almost come across as hero worship of MM. I think he has lost the plot somewhere between last season and this. “Putting in a shift” won’t get us where we all want to be but, saying that, give the guy until the end of the season because nothing will be gained by sacking him now.

86.
I think that MM should be given until it is mathematically impossible to reach the play off positions. Then if we get a manager that isn’t attached then he should come in and get a look at the team before the summer.
If we don’t reach the play offs then MM will be dead man walking so may as well go anyway!

It comes to something when we hero worship a player that has only scored 4 goals!

86, I should have known better than to hit the Welsh. My wife is a Caerphilly girl, and i just hope she doesn’t see this. (I have had nothing but grief since the 26-19 debacle.)
I will be down in Caerphilly on Friday, and attending the game on Saturday with my Welsh in-laws. (Without my colours. I will be wearing a Welsh Rugby Shirt) It will be frustrating if we score, as I will have to say nothing. I will just clap with my eyelids.

I’m gutted, I live in Cwmbran, but will be 6000 miles away, again. Missed the league game as well.
It’s not the same when you have to go undercover :-(
Currently abusing my company financial director, bluebirds fan, who is over on business, even he is not flying back until Saturday… he knows we are going to win!!!

I have to argue with some of the people in this article criticising Andy Keogh. The guy was getting slated quite rightly for not scoring goals. Well Wolves have scored 8 goals in their last five matches and Keogh has got 4 of them.
So what does Magic Mick do in response to him starting to score? He plays him out of position on the right wing and then surprise surprise the guy doesn’t play well and next thing I am sure is he will be dropped.
This reminds me of Eastwood earlier in the season who scored 3 in two games for Wolves then scored for Wales and was then immediately dropped by McCarthy.
Also, Jody Craddock scored the best goal seen at Molineux this season against Bradford then was immediately packed off to Stoke on loan.
We all need to hope Ebanks Blake doesn’t score too many else he will be re-assigned to left back and then sent out to pasture.

Can anyone shed light on the deal that brought a new owner for Wolves. Basically I was under the impression that a paltry amount was paid – which Sir Jack had framed – provided many millions was spent on players. If this is fact why has MM brought in ‘Journey’ men. Why hasn’t money been spent on known well skilled players.

Another factor to condider is why so many clubs – in financial distress have had millionaires fighting over them. We have a large following, & yet very little interest was shown. It suggests to me that a lot of detail in the contract has yet to be revealed.
