Wolverhampton netball round-up

netball1.jpgDK Ladies’ challenging spirit secured two points as they held Whitmore X, currently in second spot in division one, to 24-26.

Whitmore’s persistent attack by Mandy Fellows and Vicky Rock and steady defence of Jo Wilkes and Natalie Marren just retained them the two-goal lead at close of play, giving them the full five points.

Meanwhile, in the same division, Whitmore Y’s result over Chasers was a somewhat more distinguished win, largely due to the experienced shooting combination of Jo Smith and Cath Ward.

That was combined with impenetrable goalkeeping of Lyndsey Gowland and Jo Steventon.

Division Two provided a head-to-head skirmish with Crescent 1 and Static Systems proceeding goal for goal throughout 40 energy-packed minutes.

Centre court players, Mel Prescott, Andrea Gittings and Gaynor Bishop of Crescent and Static’s Lexi Stevens, Mandy Richards and Abi Carr gave no space to each other.

Static managed to crack Crescent’s last centre pass to score the penultimate goal and then went on to score again from their own centre.

A similar clash was seen in Division three between Lucas and Wordsley Storks with Lucas’s centre court, Anne O’Hara, Kim Smith and Sue Johnson, containing Sian Harris, Nicky Smith and Rachel Crudginton of Wordsley.

Caroline Dobson spurred her team’s 21-19 victory with some accurate shooting.

In Division Four ICE’s recent rise from the doldrums clinched a two goal win over favourites Chasetown A.

Both centres, Becky Edkins and Heather Loynes, competed against each other in a passionate contest but some unexpected interceptions by Ice’s Captain, Sonia Hallmark, allowed them to inch ahead.
