Wolves freeze Early Birds again

Thursday 7th February 2008, 11:45AM GMT.

Wolves chief executive Jez MoxeyJez Moxey today targeted another boost to Wolves’ swelling fan base as the club announced a fourth consecutive price freeze for Early Bird season ticket holders.

Fans in both the Stan Cullis and Jack Harris stands will once again pay £345 for their season tickets – or just £15 per game.

And in a further boost to the Molineux faithful match day tickets will be frozen for juniors, with a £1 increase all over the ground for adults.

The club’s 18,000 Early Bird season ticket holders will be eligible for the reduced prices if they renew before March 14.

The move represents an effective PR coup for new owner Steve Morgan, who has always stated his aim to keep ticket prices low. Chief executive Moxey hailed today’s announcement as “fantastic news” for the fans.

“We believe this decision represents a ‘thank you’ to our fans for their loyal support,” he said today.

“These are some of the most competitive prices in the Championship and it will be even better deal if we are promoted to the Premiership.  Nobody could accuse this football club of not offering value for money to their loyal season ticket holders.

“The long-term aim of the club is to attract more people to games and we hope offers like this will encourage more fans to come through the turnstiles.

“Key to that is attracting more juniors, and that is why we are delighted to keep prices for under-12s and under-17s so low. Football is an expensive business for families and we’re keen to keep it as cheap as possible.”

The club will be keenly aware of the predicted economic slump – and the fact that this campaign has so far failed to live up to expectations.

But it still it illustrates the club’s desire to claw back supporters from the post Glenn Hoddle-era, when season ticket number slumped to less than 17,000. Moxey has once again hailed the importance of supporters backing Mick McCarthy’s young side.

“It has been said on many occasions but the fans have a huge part to play.

“The better the atmosphere and the more fans that we get through the turnstiles the better it is for the team,” he said.

The Early Bird prices are:

Billy Wright Upper Stand – Adults: £464, Seniors (65 and over): £272, Juniors (under 17): £240, Juniors (under 12): £192.

Steve Bull Upper Stand – Adults: £405, Seniors: £210, Juniors (under 17): £156, Juniors (under 12): £130.

Stan Cullis & Jack Harris stand – Adults:  £345, Seniors: £195, Juniors (under 17): £165, Juniors (under 12): £120.

Family enclosure: Adults: £384, Seniors: £224, Juniors (under 17): £80, Juniors (under 12): £23.

Re 1 – excuse me if I’m being stupid here but where in the above passage do you read JM having a ‘snipe’ at the fans? He says ‘We believe this decision represents a ‘thank you’ to our fans for their loyal support’ and ‘It has been said on many occasions but the fans have a huge part to play. The better the atmosphere and the more fans that we get through the turnstiles the better it is for the team.’ How on earth do you take this as criticism? Yet more paranoia, woe-is-me, delusional inferiority from some of our idiot supporters. Pull your head out of your hole and stop being negative simply for the sake of being negative…

A nice gesture or a con-trick? Are Wolves and Morgan getting worried that failure to make the Premiership may see a loss of fans for next season? After all the season began full of promise and with increased expectation only to offer hope so far and not the proof most were wanting.
Anyway nice to see a photo of Jez Moxey smiling. I wonder when that was taken? Not this season surely???

He usually offers them after a run of wins, the last game at Watford must have upset him a bit, as will this weekends game against Stoke!

Thank goodness we have such a great business man and fabulous manager in charge. You can tell that the team are on the brink of something really big.

If we don’t make it this season it is only to be expected. A couple more strikers will make all the difference!

Patience Wolves fans, what is another season after so many, McCarthy really is a great manager he is just lulling all the other teams into a false sense of security.

I wonder how many of the folks moaning and complaining on here are actually season ticket holders? You surely can only complain on this one if you are. If you are not a season ticket holder, and have no intention of being one, don’t come on here whinging.

WolvesWolves, Lee, Andy, Sue D’Nimm will no doubt all be whinging and whining again though. I have never seen a positive comment from any of them about anything to do with the Wolves players or management. They are “Wolves through and through” though.

It was suggested that I write an autobiography called “My Life as a Mushroom” due to my beliefs that we are better off now than when Mick McCarthy arrived. Might I suggest one each for the gents (or ladies) mentioned.

    How about:-

I agree with 7 (above). I was expecting a rise in the price of my season ticket this year, so to have frozen the prices for a 4TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR represents a good gesture to the supporters in my book. It seems to me that if Jez Moxey turned up on your doorstep and presented you with a cheque for £3 million pounds, some supporters would find something to moan about simply because it was Jez Moxey presenting it. Compared to some season ticket prices in the higher leagues, the ones on offer at Wolves are very competitive. What’s happening on the pitch is a separate matter, but surely you can’t moan about the prices.

Do you Wolves fans feel like this is a pull for the gambling contingent within you, do you wait to see which division you are in, or do you go with blind faith that you will get promoted. Lets face it, if you do not get promoted this season then a price freeze is what you would expect anyway for next season, but if you were to get promoted then this deal would be excellent value for money.
If you are a fan who is going to turn up next season regardless then go for it, but the clubs idea fo making out this is a thankyou to the fans is almost laughable, marketing plan, pure and simple.

“The better the atmosphere and the more fans that we get through the turnstiles the better it is for the team,” he said, cant argue with that. Read for that – “you bunch of miserable fxxxxx should be happy with another year in this league, and guess what,we wont even make you pay more.”

    Similarly
“here is a pie and a pint, because we are sorry South Bank” – when really he was saying, “take this gesture and stop whining, you are just supporters with the cheapest tickets in the ground – if i want to kick you out of your seats I will”.

Speaking to a friend of mine who supports the Villa he tells me they do a young adults ticket which is cheaper than a full adult season ticket and would be something that would make it easier for young fans to afford, even if they are not a student (tax dodger) and do work we generally dont earn as much as older more experienced workers and im not disputing anything that is the way it is and the way it should be (minimum wage is lower, job positions for younger adults dont pay as much as more experienced workers)

And just for your information I am entitled to my opinion, as is anybody is, whether they are season ticket holders or not!

You don’t get to pick who posts a message and I find it obscene that you use your ticket as a badge of honour and a stick with which to hit others with.

What you need to do is learn to listen more, disagree if you like but because others don’t share your views it does not make them idiots, booers or armchair fans.

And by the way, if you are an armchair fan is that another reason that you shouldn’t have an opinion?

Afterall, if you don’t like the offer then don’t take it. Simple. But you’ll have to pay an increased price if you then decide to renew afterwards. However, I do not think any of us can question his business acumen or his ability to run the finances of the club in an extremely competent manner. The whole ‘pie & pint’ debacle was initiated by WM Police, just like the Cardiff FA Cup situation is controlled by the local plod, so citing that as an example does not really wash with me. I guess it comes down to how the individual views things – I am an optimist in general, and as I keep reiterating, the state of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at present is extremely healthy. It will only deteriorate if the doom and gloom merchants get their way and get another manager out, putting us back to square one.. again.

I live in Kent and cannot get to midweek evening matches due to work committments. So far, this season, there are 6 mid-week games scheduled with potentially more depending on the cup run. Just over half are at the traditional 3.00 Sat. So, even if I drive for the West Brom and Cardiff games (Sunday lunch-time kick-offs) and ignore the 3 games on Saturday evening, I pay £469 for 17 games – which works out at over £27.50 a game.

Can I just say that what I was referring to was not that people should not have an opinion on anything that differs with mine. What I was trying to say, and I thought it was clear, is that anyone who is not a season ticket holder, and has no intention of getting one, should not comment on the prices, as they will not be affected by it. Knock MM all you want, knock JM all you want, but if you are going to moan about season ticket prices, at least moan about something that will affect you. I am pleased that they will not be increasing in price whether we are in the Championship or the Prem, and will be renewing mine. If you’re not having one, fine, but don’t whinge about it. Disagree with me all you want, but at least give reasons that are constructive, and not just “Sack Mick” or We’re rubbish. A ten year old can do that. (And by the way, if you were watching the Wolves before I was born, you are VERY old. I like to look at the positives in life, and dislike negativity. There is far too much of it around, and has prevented us as a club from being where we would all like to be. Too many good managers have been got rid of over the years, and we end up having to start all over again.)

As for rose coloured glasses, I have said several times that I can see Mick’s inadequacies. It’s just that, very often, folks on here knock him on things that aren’t right. (i.e. Play Davies – He is injured, so can’t, Play Freddy – He can’t. He’ isn’t a team player, and is totally undeserving of the Cult status that several posters on here give him, etc.)(Maybe the Freddy Huggers should take off their rose-tinted glasses.) Wolves fans are the most negative bunch of whingers I have ever come across. I just dislike the constant negativity shown by some folks on here. They would not know how to be positive if the won the Euro Lottery this Friday. (Especially if they had to share it.)

    2) this deal only applies to season ticket holders – so i dont really see how it is an advert to ‘swell the fan base’ as only current season ticket holders apply.
    3) all this aside, at least they have held them. if you are one of those season ticket holders in the jack harris – £15 is pretty good value for money in my opinion, especially if we do sneak up via the play offs : )

That means that nearly 6000 fans will get there under their own steam or you will need 193 coaches.

    Fantastic!

The club deserve credit for freezing the season ticket prices (I think after what we have watched this year, any increase would have seen us down to 11000 season ticket holders).

My gripe is that the matchday prices are STILL TOO HIGH! I’m in the Stan Cullis stand and £23 is fair, but a fair price for my fellow supporters in the Steve Bull & Billy Wright should be £24 & £25 respectively, with all kids at half price not 2/3rds.

If a parent takes a child to a match in the Billy Wright next year and buys a programme they will have no change out of £50 – for 1 afternoon out on a family budget? Sorry Jez parents cant afford to encourage their kids.

    Well done Jez.

Not all of the unwashed recognise the good stewardship needed to run the club….after all we don’t want to see a return to the Bhatti Brothers thank you very much!

No.47 no ones forcing you to buy a season ticket! :o)

Her we go again the JM muppet haters, why can’t you get off the guy’s back-it is sooooooo simple, if you don’t want it don’t go.
As for 52 and othe south bankers, why do you keep having a go at the north bank, yes you do sing-but- you are not and never will be as load as when it was a stand in the 50s and the south bank roar could be heard miles away, what stand empties first when the team are not playing so well! and for many, many years the North Bank was the end were the choir was and the south bank was an away/home stand, one last point we all now you hate the a—-n (so do I) so why not give it a rest and support the lads for 90 minutes instead.

I’m female and a season ticket holder, my whinge is “what about concessionary prices for the pensioners?” In September I will be celebrating my 60th birthday. I will be able to get a free bus pass, reduced prices into various places up and down the country but I can’t get a reduced season ticket at the Wolves until I am 65. We may be old, but some of us have supported Wolves for a very long time. Shouldn’t we be rewarded? Many things these days are going up in price and some pensioners cannot afford the season ticket prices, even if they are frozen.
Last year I e-mailed the FA, Football League, and the Minister of Sport who said that the decision was down to the club (Wolves)
I wrote to Jez Moxey, Sir Jack and of course Mr Morgan the new owner. All replies came from the same lady who said there were no future plans to give concessionary prices to the 60 year olds.
I’m sure we ‘pensioners’ would help to fill the empty seats and there may be occasions when we could take grandchildren to the matches, perhaps when their parents were at work or otherwise engaged.

    41-wow what a great fan-cobblers.
You talk about not renewing-great, you ain’t done anything what other fans have not done, I remember walking at 3.00am in the morning from west er up the road to wolverhampton to catch the coach at 6.00am to Newcastle-we lost, had the coaches wrecked by newcastle fans, bit of trouble off wolves fans, escorted into newcastle nick before they let us go (three coaches with windows smashed)no mobile phone to get in touch with home and got back at 6.00am sunday morning, had a season ticket since 1972 supported the lads since 1953 (I will be 59 in march) and “WILL” renew, and “WILL” keep supporting the lads, because I am/we are “WOLVES”.
As for Brereton-well said,my sentiments exactly!

Have to agree with Breretonwolf on several points – mainly:

    1)Support the team
2)Early Bird only good thing we can think of that JM has ever got right
    3) MM is the manager at least until the end of the season – so lets try and get behind him – even if we dont always agree with what he does

NB* No point doing any other as either way – we are stuck with this lot – manager and players as much as they are stuck with us lot

    UP THE WOLVES!!!

Ref 48 & 58 comments: what the other Baggie fan didn’t say so eloquently is that we’re takin gover 4,000 to Barsnley on Saturday with the club providing free transport for 3,000 fans. Then for the 5th Round FA Cup game we have 6,000 fans going there. Not bad considering the last batch of 2,500 sold out in less than 12 hours.
