Baggies army is hitting the road

Thursday 7th February 2008, 11:44AM GMT.

jeremypeace1.jpgAlbion could be backed by 10,000 travelling fans over the next two weeks after supporters filled 40 free coaches for Saturday’s trip to Barnsley.

Two thousand Baggies fans will fill the complimentary coaches with at least 3,500 following the Championship leaders to South Yorkshire.

And news of the bumper crowd at Oakwell comes just a day after Albion posted the ‘sold out’ signs for their FA Cup clash with Coventry, with 6,000 tickets snapped up in less than a week.

The travelling contingent at Barnsley is expected to rise to around 4,000 as Albion fans build on an impressive recent history of raucous backing on the road.

Chairman Jeremy Peace said: “The backing our away supporters give the team seems to get better every year.

“It really has been a sight to behold this season and the free coach travel is a thank you for their loyal support.

“Their backing is appreciated by everyone at the club, particularly the manager and players, and I’m delighted we’ll be taking a huge following to Barnsley for what is a vital game.

“We’ve also sold our 6,000 allocation for the following Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Coventry, which promises to be a great occasion.”

Saturday’s free coach travel continues what has become a tradition of Albion providing free transport to one match each season.

The Baggies lay on 40 free coaches each time and the convoy has been filled this year well in advance of the fixture.

A further 1,500 fans have also bought match tickets and will make their own way to Oakwell as Tony Mowbray’s men look to preserve their lead at the top of the Championship.

I wonder how many of these “fans” will take up the kind offer of a free coach to Bransley?
Probably the same number who used to redicule me when I used the pseudonym of “Giz a lift from Tunbridge Wells” prior to me shortening it to Kent Wolf!
At least they know how to look after the fans at West Brom & not shaft them at every opportunity.

12..grren eyed monster took over again Mr Wolf.

Your Mickey Mouse Chairman could learn a lot. Your Cardiff debarcle goes without saying. It would have been a good gesture to offer free coaches to Cardiff as its the only way to get to the game.

Even Burnley placed free coaches for its supporters to come to the Albion last saturday.

Oh what a pleasure it must be to support such a caring club as Wolverhampton Wanderers.

You always have your frozen early bird tickets to look forward too

11 – why post a decent comment on these pages – but on the wolves pages you are taking the p*ss – something about us needing free travel to home matches…

Why is it the dingles – even the ones that can spell, feel the need to ridicule something positive we do ?

If wolves ever rewarded their fans with something like this they would be queing up – just like the pie and pint offer… and we would never hear the end of it.

Kent – you are welcome on here – just try to be honest about things – admit you DONT support midlands football – you are a wolves fan – end of – and your comments are filed alongside all the others.

    Happy_baggie, me old mucker.
OK, so I made a rare spelling mistake.
And as for extracting the urine,I class it as banter. If I’ve offended ANYONE, I’m sorry. At least its not malicious as in the case of a certain Wolves fans & the comments made about Kev Phillips leg!
Wolves, as a gesture of goodwill COULD follow suit & offer free travel to Cardiff.
    BUT THEY WON’T!
They could give MM the “Dreaded vote of Confidence”
    BUT THEY WON’T!
    They could win the Championship….
    NO, THEY WON’T!
This “tit for tat” Dingles/Tesco’s thing as been going on since Adam & Eve (well, not quite, but you see where I’m coming from).
    Wolves have always been whingers.
Albion have always been a “good time” team (fans coming in droves during good times)
All of the Black Country hate Villa.
    Birmingham City?
Don’t get me started on them!
I’m still looking forward to the day that you & I can hold this Wolves/Albion debate over a friendly pint!
I’ll be up in March for the Derby (hospital appointments/Operations permitting).
    All the best

As you read this, you’ll notice the time it was posted. What the moderator saw fit to not publish between your comment 17 & mine at 18,was a grovelling apology.

Kent – you are normally one of the more moderate wolves fans that post on here – and god knows there are many idiots… but I was very disappointed to see on the wolves pages you were calling us boogies and using the old “poorthorns” jibe – I know it doesn’t matter a jot, but its just odd to read one comment praising our efforts and hoping your club take note – then read several others from you just taking the mick.

I love banter, and i wasn’t offended by your content – just suprised at the change of direction.

That said, I am still up for a pint.

Yes our club is so well run we could probably afford to do this but try not to think about it too much as it’s obviously upsetting you.
PS ‘Wolves til I die.’ I suppose you need something to look forward to.
    16 Seymour.
I’ve never been JP’s No.1 fan but Mickey Mouse? Compared to your track record. I won’t drag up past history (may be too painful for you) but your last chairman sold your club for a tenner, while the current one decamped to Uganda during the transfer window. Now get back to your glasshouse and put those stones down you naughty boy.

You make these predictions but if these results don’t go our way, you’ll be back on slagging everyone off. Do you have a personality disorder?
