Several of the region’s hockey matches fell victim to the weather last weekend, with Walsall, Wednesbury, Rugeley, Chaddesley Corbett, Aldridge and Kingswinford all suffering postponements of their scheduled fixtures in the Bodykraft Midland Regional League.

Lichfield’s home match with league leaders Harborne did manage to survive the weather, but Lichfield probably wished it hadn’t after being soundly beaten 9-0 by the Birmingham side. 

In the West Midlands Premier, Finchfield continued their good form with a 5-0 win at second bottom Leamington.

Tim Freeman and Pete Clark both scored twice to add to Darren Holyhead’s first half opener and the win keeps Finches in third place in the league, just two points behind leaders Warwick University, who were beaten by Wolverhampton.

Wolves ran out 2-1 winners, despite going a goal behind, thanks to an equaliser from Tom Schubert and a last minute winner from John Mackie from a short corner.

The win keeps Wolves in contention ahead of next week’s local derbies with Finchfield and Old Wulfrunians.

Kidderminster suffered a crushing 9-1 defeat at the hands of Redditch and remain in sixth place in the division.

There was a top of the table clash in West Midlands One, as second placed Old Halesonians took on leaders Kings Heath Pickwick. 

Old Hales narrowly lost out 5-4 and are now eight points behind Kings Heath.

Bloxwich moved into fourth place in the division with a 4-0 away success at Old Silhillians, while West Bromwich remained in fifth after a 4-4 draw with Droitwich. 

The only surviving match in West Midlands Two saw Stafford defeat Aston University 6-2. 

In the Slazenger National League Women’s North division, Cannock Ladies defeated Liverpool Sefton 3-2.

Cannock took the lead through a Georgina Twigg penalty after seven minutes, before Jane Reid added another before half time. 

The visitors managed to get themselves back on level terms within eight second half minutes, but Ellie Watton converted a short corner with 12 minutes remaining to earn the win for Cannock.
