Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Villa signing’s joy at move
Thursday 31st January 2008, 8:31AM GMT.
Aston Villa have tied up their first signing of the transfer window with the capture of Spurs winger Wayne Routledge for £1.5m.
The former Tottenham and Crystal Palace has agreed a one-and-a-half year deal to become Martin O’Neill’s first January signing.
Villa fans will be fascinated to see if O’Neill’s reputation for re-igniting careers rescues Routledge from the doldrums after a desperate two years at Spurs ruined by injury and loss of form.
“I am ecstatic – I can’t wait to start and Martin O’Neill is a fantastic manager who has already done great things here,” said the excited former England Under 21 starlet.
“The manager’s record at bringing players through is amazing. If he can do the same with me, it will be good for Villa.
“To even be linked with a club like Villa and to be here is a massive privilege. I am honoured.
“I just want to prove myself now. It is a forward step for me.
“When I heard about Villa’s interest, there was only one club I wanted to sign for.
“The training ground is an amazing place. I have been shown around – it’s remarkable. It’s exciting times for the club.
“Villa Park is a massive stadium, great fans and superb atmosphere. I can’t wait to play there.
“We have some exciting months ahead. It’s a great place to be and I want to do well for Martin for showing faith in me and for the supporters.”
