Albion star to hit prime time

korensecondceleb1.jpgAlbion’s Robert Koren is looking to hit TV screens in his homeland of Slovenia by bringing FA Cup glory to The Hawthorns.

The Baggies midfielder was an avid FA Cup viewer during his childhood in Eastern Europe.

And he is now looking to put himself in the spotlight back home by helping prolong his FA Cup adventure.

“Before I came to England I followed the FA Cup,” said Koren.

“It is true we want to be more focused on the league games and top of the table at the end of the season.

“But the next game is the fourth round of the FA Cup and we are preparing ourselves really well for this game.

“We will be really focused. We want to perform really well and give 100 per cent and hopefully we will win and get our confidence up even higher.

“The FA Cup gets a lot of coverage back home in Slovenia. They are showing all the games. People can follow the English league and the cups.”

And Koren believes the loss of many Premier League clubs early in this year’s competition gives Albion a great chance of a slice of glory.

“The top four clubs are really good but it is always possible for someone to do well,” he said.

“Tottenham are in the final of the Carling Cup and they are not in the top four clubs.

“We are really focused on the league games but it is the FA Cup in front of us so we will do everything to win this game.”

And Koren has played down fears that a prolonged FA Cup run could damage the Baggies’ dream of promotion to the Premier League.

Progress to the fifth round last season and a gruelling penalty shoot-out defeat to Middlesbrough was widely blamed for an end-of-season dip in form.

But Koren reckons things are different a year on.

“It looked like after the Middlesbrough game last year in the FA Cup we struggled, but this year is much different because we have a bigger squad,” he said.

“The FA Cup gets a lot of coverage back home in Slovenia. They are showing all the games” says our man Koren. Why can’t we get to see any by CHOICE rather than have what BBC or Sky decide we should watch? I’d willingly pay a small fee, say £5 or so, to watch Peterborough v Baggies on ITV or BBC. OK, I’d rather be there but it’s travelling I don’t do too easily these days, un it ay chep aer kid. (Great Bridge dialect for the uninitiated). It is perfectly feasible to show and watch these games on computer at reduced definition of course, but hey, it’s better than nothing and easily charged for, again by computer. I sometimes think the FA live in 1950 with this approach and also the refusal to use technology for contentious decisions.

This vile attack on Barnet is totally uncalled for. Please apologise.
