People in flooded areas across the Midlands were bracing themselves for more rain today.

Forecasters said wet weather would arrive again this afternoon, but in the form of light showers.

However, the announcement was little comfort to people in Worcestershire where the River Severn is now expected to peak between 6am and noon tomorrow.

In Stourport staff and 22 residents at the Lickhill Manor Nursing Home were staying put despite water flooding the access road.

Fire and police officers were making regular checks to ensure everyone was safe.

But residents of the nearby Lickhill Manor Caravan Park were evacuated as their access road became submerged.

The switchback between Bewdley and Stourport was closed today and motorists were advised to use the bypass around Bewdley unless needing to go into the town.

In Bridgnorth the A442 Bridgnorth to Telford Road was closed and sandbags were issued to householders

Meanwhile the Rivers Trent, Great Haywood to Yoxall, Sow and Penk, around Stafford, and the Blythe and Dove in East Staffordshire remained on flood watch.

Express & Star video journalist Victoria Hoe went to Bewdley to see how residents were coping with the rising waters

• Express & Star weatherman John Warner said: “It is going to be dry during the day today with a little bit of drizzle expected overnight.

“There will be period of rain in the evening tomorrow and rain is expected in Wales.

“Looking ahead strong to gale force winds are forecast for Friday.”
