Albion close on keeper

Tuesday 22nd January 2008, 11:29AM GMT.

wd2513056michal-danek.jpgAlbion were today closing in on top transfer target Michal Danek with the goalkeeper’s agent predicting a deal will be done in the next two days.

The Baggies, who extended current keeper Dean Kiely’s contract for an extra year late yesterday, made a fresh bid for Danek over the weekend believed to involve a £500,000-plus fee.

And his Czech club, Viktoria Plzen, were due to contact The Hawthorns with their response this afternoon.

The clubs are still discussing whether Danek will make a permanent transfer immediately or move to England on loan initially.

But a deal of some kind now seems more likely than ever after the 24-year-old made it clear to Plzen at the weekend that he wants to leave.

Agent Ondrej Chovanek said: “West Bromwich Albion made a new proposal to Viktoria Plzen at the weekend and Plzen had it translated yesterday.

“They will go back to West Bromwich Albion today with an answer and in my opinion the transfer will happen.

“I think by Wednesday or Thursday we could have a conclusion to this.”

Competition for places will push us on, and he’s young enough to mature into a better goalkeeper. None of this old man stuff of the robbo era.

We mut have cover though as you can imagine Deano getting crocked on february 1st. looks like he has a fair bit of potential.

    Great Stuff!
I’ll wait until word comes from WBA Officials first though. It’s an agents job to rile things up.

Good to hear, however I’ll wait until we get word from WBA Officials before I get too excited. Deal’s like this have flopped at the last minute in the past.
Plus its an agents job to rile things up.

TM Going the right way. Now for a defence that is as good as preventing opposition forwards as our forwards are as good as scoring goals.

Happy, what was I wrong about btw? I only said I hoped his kicking was good!! If I’m wrong so is the rest of the thread by the look of it as we all agreed with each other til you came along lmao!!!

Seriously tho I checked the Viktoria Plezn website out. Couldn’t read anything but the scores for the season show they’d kept about 60% clean sheets so far this season!! Obviously the opposition might not be as good but maybe we should be looking at some of their defenders too!?!?
