Second red route lined up
Friday 18th January 2008, 10:05AM GMT.
Wolverhampton could get another controversial red route on one of its busiest main roads, the Express & Star can reveal today.
The move could be imposed along the A4123 Birmingham New Road to restrict parking, despite calls for an existing red route on the A449 Stafford Road to be scrapped.
The Birmingham New Road is used by thousands of commuters every day but it has not been revealed how far along the dual carriagewat the route could extend.
The proposals were revealed to transport chiefs in the West Midlands at a meeting held in Wolverhampton today to discuss and overhaul of transport in the city. On the agenda were ideas for bus ‘showcase’ routes to improve public transport links with a red route suggested as easing congestion between Wolverhampton and Dudley.
The seven-mile restricted parking rule on the Stafford Road dual carriageway cost £1.7 million to introduce last March and is up for review in two months. Traders and motorists have voiced concerns about the red route.

when will those stupid meddling fools ever learn…It’s our hard earned money they’re playing with. The last one was a disaster, maybe this won’t be as bad, but what about all the other things that need the money, things they were voted in to adress?

People get the councils they deserve I’m afraid. Only about 25% of the electorate bother to vote in local elections. Democracy is wasted on us!
