It is about time the suppermarkets do this I have been asking them for years to do this, I drive my disabled mother-in -law around & the amount of time we have been unable to park is unreel. we have a specaly addapted car so we need these bays to park in because of the size of the vehical and when I see some one parked in a reserved bay & ask them if they could move i get a mouthfull of abuse off them. WELL DONE ASDA for taking the lead lets hope more follow.

I wouldn’t dream of taking a disabled parking place but how do ASDA have the authority to impose fines on people that do? Someone please explain.

Of course ASDA have the right to fine inconsiderate people who park in the spaces reserved for the disabled etc. It is after all private land and as long as they put up the required notices they can pretty much do what they want. However, unless they actually start clamping vehicles they are unlikely to persuade anyone to hand over £60. At least they are trying to do something about the selfish motorists who behave like this.

ASDA most certainly do not have the right to “Fine” anybody ….. but they do have the right to arrange the removal of the offending vehicle at the owners expense if the vehicle is in violation of their regulations.

Not before time, although we do wonder how they are going to implement it. We regularly see people sitting in cars waiting for someone, not displaying a badge, or going to the cash point, and taking spaces up. We complained to Asda before, as I am disabled, and they said they were hoping to do something about it. Perhaps clamping is the best way and to release it a £60 fine has to be paid.

They do have the right, they do this by selling off the car park to a 3rd party company that manage the car park. They’ve been doing it ar my local store for years

Well done ASDA let’s hope the others follow.People think if they are 10 stone over weight they can park in these places because they are to bone idle to walk anywhere. Good on you ASDA.

the elderly are the worst people for parking in parent & child cause they have a blue badge they think they have a right to park were they like
i have an 8 year old daughter who is disabled she can not walk at all when i park in the disabled bays befor i have time to even put the badge up the elderly give you such a look muttering to them self they think they are the only people that can be disabled & at least most elderly have the use of legs & can walk a bit my daughter CAN NOT WALK AT ALL SO CHILDREN CAN BE DISABLED ASWELL NOT JUST THE ELDERLY

I always park in disabled spaces. Why should I have to walk further than the disabled. They already get too much for free anyway.

At last a supermarket is actually doing something to protect disabled/mother and baby parking spaces. A lot of disabled people will know about the Baywatch campaign which set out to do this. I am sure that this campaign has had something to do with Asdas decision. I wrote to Asda about 5 years ago about the abuse of disabled parking bays and was very dissapointed with their response. I hope other supermarkets will now do the same. As for “Jim” – I would like him to know that yes disabled people do get freebies.. My husband had a free wheelchair as he cannot walk. There but for the grace of God he goes ( the moron)

Jim..if you parked in a disabled bay and i saw you do it mate youd be challenged and if you were abusive or refused to move if hook your car up to my 4×4 and move you!
Ive pushed one car right out of a bay to let a mother with a disabled child with oxygen tank park safe and near for her to handle all the equipment she needs for her child. How dare you think you have the right to deny a disabled person any rights. She was told to F off by a man in his early 40′s and he told her to leave the cripple at home!!!
How very brave of him…should have seen his face when he returned to find his car parked right up off the path up a small hedge…and about 10 drivers comforting her…The gentleman concerned was driving a silver nissan micra..not much weight for a chelsea tractor!…hahahhaha

so are asda going to fine the disabled for parking in the mother and child i have struggled many a time not being able to get parked because there is a car with a disability badge on show or even an elderly person sitting in it waiting a push chiar can be a srtuggle as well as a wheelchair and need the same amount of room so whats good for one is good for the other…..

I have no sympathy with people who park in disabled bays, but why should people with children get preferential spaces? People don’t have a choice about disability, but parents have children because they want them. It is a recent phenomenon which smacks of political correctness.
What next – spaces for gays and lesbians?
