Wolves seal Luton deal

Wolves have signed Luton midfielder David Edwards for more than £600,000, according to reports.
Edwards, aged 21, is one of five players set to leave the struggling club with Wolves reported to be paying £675,000.
The Welsh international joined the Hatters from Shrewsbury in July when he became manager Kevin Blackwell’s first signing.
Luton Town assistant manager Sam Ellis said today that the administrator at the cash-strapped club agreed to sell Edwards straight away, despite Wolves being happy to wait until after Luton’s cup replay at Liverpool on Tuesday.
A sizeable proportion of the Edwards fee will go to his former club Shrewsbury after the Shropshire side negotiated a sell-on clause with Luton.

On a serious note, the best manager we had at Wolves was Graham Turner.
He inherited a bare bones squad & got us from the old Div 4 to where we are now.Unfortunatly, he never “clicked” at this higher stage!

Come on SUPPORTERS. David Edwards is a very good prospect, but he hasn’t played Championship football yet. Already a Welsh International colleague of Wayne and Freddie.

He is not Irish but he is Welsh which is still celtic – Let’s hear from all the moaning “Mick only picks the Irish” fans to see if they have a dislike of all celts or whether it is just the Irish……….just as long as they never bother considering whether this lad can actually play.
I can see a great 2nd half of the season coming up – keep the faith and keep supporting the players like we did last year.

Saw him the Cup game against Liverpool and he looked good. Knows how to run forward towards the goal which will be an unusual sight if he is allowed to do it at the mol. That is if he even gets a game, Jarvis cost the same and he has hardly had a look in even though he has been fit since October.

Wulf (6), respect your opinion, but beg to disagree. Remember Dave Jones’s team placed us 3rd one season and got us promoted the one after. So hard to compare MM’s achievements yet :-) It’s not just the $s that count, but the results, yeah? And surely you can’t exactly compare Miller (who was banging in 20 a season pre-hoddle) to Eastwood or Keogh (who I would compare more to Michael “never scores” Branch). And did you forget the Sturridge deal? What was that, 350M or so … I think he gave us a trifle more than Eastwood, wouldn’t you say?
I do agree with you that Wolves are doing good business though. My disagreement is simply that I think they’ve been doing it for some time, including in Dave Jones days. And also that good business alone in not enough to get you promoted.
This squad is nowhere near as good as Jones’s. You can compare almost every position from left back (Naylor vs. whoever is playing out of position) to midfield (Rae vs Henry?), etc. Only exception may be Kightly vs Newton if you are looking long term.
If this squad can get us promoted, I’d be delighted. But I don’t expect it. Just remember quality costs. You can pretend you’re driving a Ferrari when you’re driving a 2nd hand mini, but even if you got a great deal on the mini, it’s still a mini, and you won’t win any races with it. You’d just be able to pat yourself on the back for great business.

Dont know zip about Edwards but E-Banks Blake a really good signing. I am really surprised that Plymouth have let him go for so little money. With the kind of support he received from Halmosi at The Pilgrims he looked a player in the mould of Kenny Miller only his conversion rate is far, far higher than Miller! Just wish that he had come as a package with Halmosi. Still he will with the right support score goals at ANY level.

dave is a good player i went to school with him. His school is proud of such a talented youngster he is and still continue to hold scrap articles from the paper in the lobby. He is fast and he is skilled, this may be his chance to prove himself at a higher level. Cmon dave!

Not complaining, but do we really need another striker? Ideally, would like to see teh defence strengthened- WHU’s Calum Davenport and Man U’s Shawcross (currently on loan at Stoke). Also, about time Mick started to move on some of the 6 strikers he’s got.

vindaloony, great comment mate. Absoloutly spot on. They weren’t exactly the good old days!! but there was a certain gallows humour to be found in the days when it would have been quicker to announce the crowd than the teams….. Pity the same sort of “support the CLUB” attitude is so sadly missing these days. MM is not my favourite manager by a long way, however he was the sort of manager we all wanted after Twaddle and to a certain extent DJ. Now we’re complaing about the very attributes that were after in the first place. We’ll never learn to let the manager have a fair crack of the whip will we? Big Sam would be hounded out and so would have Happy Harry if he’d have been given the job.
Players don’t become bad players overnight, and the same can be said of managers. Hopefully we can give MM a chance to dig himself out of the run we are in at the moment, if not he should go in May, once the season is over AND THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE BETTER TO REPLACE HIM WITH!!
Saying that if I had a few quid in the bank and had to be told how useless I was every week by people with NO MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE, WHAT-SO-EVER I think I’d have waved good bye ages ago.

Anybody see Big League Weekend last night on sky sports1? Kevin Blackwell was on there as a pundit according to him Muppet Mick and Moxey have allowed Edwards to play for Luton today against Swansea and also against Liverpool on tuesday before completing his signing on wednesday so what happens if he picks up a serious injury in the meantime? do we still sign him or not?
