Albion striker in award joy
Tuesday 8th January 2008, 3:02PM GMT.
Phillips bagged five goals in four December appearances to take his tally to 15 for the season after missing almost six weeks with a knee injury.
And his efforts have been acknowledged by the awards judging panel, who chose him ahead of Bristol City defender Bradley Orr, Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison and Stoke forward Ricardo Fuller.
Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara, who chairs the awards panel, said: “Kevin Phillips was in outstanding goal-scoring form in December.
“His back-to-back braces in the games against Bristol City and Scunthorpe were a joy to watch and to still be the Championship’s top goalscorer despite more than a month on the sidelines with injury just shows what a tremendous season Kevin is having.”
Phillips is due back in training this week after being rested by manager by manager Tony Mowbray for the 1-1 FA Cup third-round draw at Charlton on Saturday.
And both he and defender Paul Robinson, who was left out at The Valley to protect a sore rib, are expected to return to the side for the Championship match at Hull on Saturday (5.20pm).
Mowbray said: “I’m anticipating they will all be okay. It was generally a question of trying to make the right decision over players, like Paul for instance.
“If he had taken a knock in the same area again it could have severely damaged him. We don’t want to lose players of the quality of Paul Robinson or Kevin Phillips.
“It was basically a case of looking at someone who has done extremely well since he’s come back from injury but it was a game too much for him so I gave him a breather.”

super Kev deserves every accolade and award going.
Not only does he score regularly – its the quality of the goals ??
Those two against Bristol were sublime – chipped the keeper and half he defence from 18 yards – almost like the one george best scored years ago that they still rave about.
and what is it LCW calls him …. a goal hanger ?
Super Kev – LEGEND !
Really deserves it. What a player at 34, works his socks off ( He’s 2 years older than hartson !)

Did anyone hear, last evening on
radio WM phone in the
font of all knowledge…..that is
Tony Butler ?
According to this confrontational
clown,
Wolves will be signing KP because
he definately will NOT be at the Baggies next season…….i almost crashed the car………
err again.

Tony Butler – LOL.
He is great when he interviews players from the 50′s – he had bert williams on recently and it was great, but he is the football equvilent of Jeremy Kyle – sensational for no reason whatsoever…
What he bases his stories on, other than the voices in his head, god only knows.
Anyway – wolves don’t want him – too old !

What is it about these radio , newspaper and tv pundits have against the Baggies?
Why do they try to create mischief based upon as Happy says the “voices in their head”.
Aaah… the voices in the head.. now I understand

Apart from Kamara of course

Who put the ball in the Dingles net…..It’s Super Kevin Phillips
Fair play fully deserved.
Was talking to a driver that came down from our Sunderland depot earlier, and he had a good reminisce reference Kevin Phillips, I had to remind him of what they are missing out on and that all at West Brom are very gratefull his presence is being graced at the Hawthorns.

I like contentious old git Tony Butler who’s just a few years younger than I am. He gets a big audience by doing what he does well and WM need his input. A bit like the opinionated chap you stand next to in the pub, spouting off on everything, but good natured with it. Anyway, you lot must listen to him or you wouldn’t know what he gets up to! He’s there to start an argument. ‘Nuff said!

its nice to give these awards to those at the end of their career

Tividale and Forever.
Sorry but I have to castigate you both.
Tividale.
For mentioning the names of Phillips and Hartson in the same breath.
Forever.
You have admitted to a double whammy, first listening to the dire WM, second taking anything the idiot that is called Tony Butler seriously.
Shame on you both.
Just joking lads.

Hope the ‘player of the month’ suffers the same curse as ‘manager of the month’.

It’s hard to argue with this award and I should know, I have been trying to think of a reason for 10 minutes. He has made a difference and though I know you have other strikers, it is thanks to Mr Phillips that you are where you are. With his goals we might have been up there with you.

I think he is a real quality striker, especially in the championship. I think that it proves without a shadow of a doubt that teams should not be frightened of buying players in their 30′s!

Yes Raywolf.
Shame we’ve also got other strikers full of goals waiting in the wings, although KP still good enough to beat you lot on his own.
PS Try reading Abdon and Malvern, for sensible comments, although due to the length of their emails your finger may get tired, not to mention your lips.

There is only one award that counts and you lot ain’t won it yet believe it or not!
