Jones extends Cobblers loan

Thursday 3rd January 2008, 11:26AM GMT.

jones.jpgWolves youngster Daniel Jones has had his loan spell at Northampton Town extended until January 25.

Jones has been at Sixfields since July and Northampton moved quickly when the original loan deal expired at the turn of the year.

Mick McCarthy had said that Jones would be returning to Wolves but has granted an extension to the loan.

The 21-year-old left back or left winger has impressed since joining the Cobblers.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy said: “Stuart Gray asked if they could keep Dan a bit longer.

“He couldn’t be involved with us because he is cup-tied so we agreed he could stay until the end of the month.”

Northampton boss Gray added: “We are delighted that Daniel will be staying here and I would like to thank Mick McCarthy.

“I am sure this will benefit all concerned. Daniel has been gaining experience and has done very well for us and I know he has been enjoying his football.

“We are very pleased he will be here for a while longer.”

Jones will stay with Northampton until after the 25 January clash with Leyton Orient.

I DNT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE SLATING WARD! I THINK THE LAD IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER IN THAT ROLE. GIVE THE KID A CHANCE! HE IS A BETTER WINGER THAN HE IS A STRIKER AND WHEN GOALKICKS ARE TAKEN HE IS THE ONE THAN WINS NEARLY EVERYONE AIMED AT HIM! LETS JUST CONCENTRATE MORE ON THE OTHER BELOW PAR PLAYERS OR BETTER STILL GET BEHIND THE TEAM AND HELP THEM ALL IMPROVE!THINK THAT MAY BE TOO MUCH FOR ALOT OF WOLVES ‘SUPPORTERS!’

It would have been a good opportunity to give Jones a run out in the cup game against Cambridge, as he was due back on the 5th Januray. But then again he would have threatened Stephen Ward’s place on the left wing, one of Mick’s best ever finds!

What’s the betting that he also starts with Elliot this Saturday? Another of his favourites. The cup game is an ideal game to give players like Mark Davies ago.

But Mick knows what he is doing!

    I wish we all!!!

Who have you been watching, the guy disappears inside and then there’s no one to go down the wing.
Fair enough he does the best he can but he aint a winger and certainly not better than Jarvis or Jones.
Maybe if we stuck him in the middle he might score a few goals.

ledbury wolf im just fed up of getting behind the team now. we all go to the games and we all get behind the team and then we all realise that we are watching the same rubbish as before. we are going down the league and MM will not chnage the team and bring in players who would put heart and soul into playing 90mins cause they want to play every week. at the moment there are too many players who know that no matter what they will start week after week and get paid not too bad either. we are into the transfer window now and all i can see happening is that we get some more irish players in and more along the lines of elliott. i like ward and yes he has done ok out on the left but we have better natural left sided players who dont get to play. also what ever happened to given youth a chance i thought that really got the fans behind the team now all we do is buy in a player instead of the ones we have spent time developing.

Stephen Ward is not good enough. That is not his fault. How Mick can say he is his greatest ever find is beyond belief! Daniel Jones showed a lot of promise and now with a bit more experience under his belt he could well be an asset in that left sided role. Mick, you have got until the end of the Season as far as I am concerned!

Frankly I have no idea what Mick is trying to do anymore and this weekend could be every bit as humiliating as the Chorley fiasco 20 years ago. Would SM stand for that ? Let’s hope not!

    Wokker 8,
I agree with your sentiments of getting jones back but he could not have played in the FA Cup as he is suspended.
Now back to the topic in hand, I just cannot believe we are letting Jones stay for another month when a couple of weeks ago MM stated that he was coming back after having had 5 months valuable first team experience.
I hate to say this but as each day goes by it becomes more and more clear that the South Bank chant against Sheffield Utd rings truer!
“you don’t know what you’re doing!”

Cant believe we’re still arguing amongst ourselves, whilst the fat controller and mindless mick drive nail after nail into WWFC…

    oh dear.

its not all doom and gloom. we are financially stable, and certainly capable of surviving in the Champs indefinitely. We will find and endless supply of mediocre managers and players wishing to play for us, and there will always be the loyal Wolves fan who shows up game after game, to pay to watch that drivel.

I just think we are all confused/angered at what on paper is a formula for success, pans out as perpetual mediocrity.

Mick you need to admit you havent a clue, and moxey, i think morgan needs to put you on a results based pay packet, that might get you to keep your trap shut.

VERY FAIR POINT MADE BUT I HAVE WATCHED HIM PLAY EVERY GAME THIS SEASON AND WARD IS GETTING BETTER, THE PROBLEM THAT THE TEAM IS HAVING IS THAT THEY GET A BETTER RECEPTION FROM FANS AT AWAY GAMES! ITS JUST DISGUSTING HOW HOME FANS THINK THEY CAN SLATE THE TEAM LIKE THAT! WE HAVE BEEN WINNING AND IF A BAD PASS IS MADE THE TEAM GET BOOED AND GEERED OFF! I HAVE A BIT OF ADVICE FOR ABOUT 80% OF THE HOME FANS IF YOU AINT GOING TO SUPPORT THE TEAM DURING A HOME GAME SIMPLY DONT COME, THE TEAM WILL BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT YOU. THEY AINT GUNNA GET BETTER IF THEY ARE BEING SLATED ALL THE TIME!

One question on my mind , Is Wolves ready for the premiership yet, sure the guys are young and getting experience , I personally feel mick is trying to build but I wonder at all whether he wants promotion yet, if for some miracle we did get promoted (play off’s) we would not be good enough and would get slaughtered so building whilst getting a season in this league maybe the intentions ie Baggies getting stronger gelling more as a team.
I dunno we’ll have to see what the intentions are like in the tranfer market . Slightly sarcastic how many Irish players become available.

26 is so right, we are keeping him there for month as he cant play in 1game for us? STUPID OR WHAT

as said above maybe we have signed someone. but i very doubt it

i thought combination of jones left wing and gray left back would be great. gray likes to attack like naylor used to, so jones could help defend unlike ward does.

also i remember him being good at set pieces, a guy we currently require

    good move mick NOT

wonder which irish or ex sunderland left winger coming in??

DJ did nothing wrong last seaseon and I would have liked him to have kicked on this season and battle for a place. There are too many favs and it is getting very annoying. At least it’s the first time I have heard a player booed ON to the pitch and was not surprised. Thanks for last yr but enough is enough. We have all payed good money and it is TOTAL “Albion” at the minute.

I agree with you comments, its nice to see sensible constructive comments, I think we all agree we aren’t doing aswell as we would like but the constant slagging of players, the manager and Jez Moxey does more harm than good.

I better be careful what i say because if you try and make sensible balanced comments on this site you get accused of being a Sandwell Town fan.
