The lowdown on Wolves’ possibles and probables in the January transfer window.
WOLVES
Areas to strengthen – Poor goal return means a new man upfront is a must. Creative midfielder also a possibility.
Linked with – Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy, Derby’s Steve Howard is one target Wolves are set to miss out on as he is bound for Leicester.
Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley has already been the subject of a £2.5million bid.
Who may go – Premiership scouts have been looking at Michael Kightly and Wayne Hennessey.
Out-of-favour Denes Rosa has been linked with Plymouth after failing to break through to the first team.

To me we are solving one problem and creating another who’s certain to go we dont no but if wayne hennessey goes there’s a masive blow to the defence.and it’s for sure we cant play without kightly.
kites and wayne…no way
howard and murphy …no way
shame about denes…
joe ledley is more the sort of player we should target…but we need to cast our net a lot wider than we have been recently…
earnshaw would be better than howard without question.
Steve howard has signed for leicester!
Joe ledley says he doesn’t want to come to wolves.
The truth is players won’t want to come to wolves as they know what mm is all about.
Most important qaulity a player needs is work ethic.
Read roy keanes book and what he says about mm as a manager is certainly proving to be the case now.
It’s also down to the new man in charge morgan are we a feeder club or a club with ambition.
if hennessey leaves he will get better coaching but will seat on the bench he still needs to improve on his positioning and command his 6 yd box as well as commanding the defence in front of him .we just need new ideas and new coaching staff as well as to play rosa and davis and for mick to play a different way instead of long balls or taking it down the wings when there no one in the box to score.but we can do with out the negavitve potter put rosa in there better player
Report abuse
re rosa. this shows the stubborness of MM and not the skill or commitment of Rosa. will be a shame to see him leave.
Football is a simple game, you need this as the template for your 1st eleven
One goalkeeper
Four who can tackle
Four who can pass
Two who can score
MM INHERITED two very good goalkeepers and one very good prospect
MM has one who can tackle – Foley
MM has bought in a couple who can pass Kightly, McIndoe,(and got rid of one)
MM is daft enough to extend the contract of Olofinyana(cant tcakle wont tackle)
MM has bought SEVEN to do the scoring and got rid of 3 in 1.5 seasons!!
MM – here is your shopping list
One genuine left back
One genuine left winger
One genuine midfield dynamo
One genuine midfielf general
NO MORE STRIKERS- give Freddie and Co the service and goals will come.
PS when we get to the premiership, replace the lot – except 3. All wolves fans know the three. Does MM??
What about trying to get in Leroy Lita or Marlon Harewood on loan or permanent (if possible), either of these would give us a real presence upfront.. Also get someone like Scott Sinclair in from Chelsea on loan, he has loads of pace & can score goals from midfield at this level.
Another player we missed out on is Aaron Mclean at Peterborough, think he was from Grays and has bagged about 20 goals already this season & looks a big, strong forward?
Come on you Wolves! Lets hope its a happy 2008!

kites and wayne no chance
howard and murphy no chance
Rosa, Mulgrew, Elliott can all go.
Joe Ledely, Yes Just What We Need In The Middle
Peter Halmosi, Another Winger For Competition
George Elokobi, Can Play LB & CB
James Collins, Solid Centre Back From West Ham For 1m Also Has Plenty Of Pace
Jermaine Beckford, Can Put The Ball In The Net

I think we need some premiership class players, to be honest really given the age of the defence thats the area needed to strengthen

Is there anything about us signing anyone on the site?? No.. thats right.
Hayles has signed for Leicester too, so doubt they need another marksmen.

Targets for January
A decent centre Halfs, Martin Taylor of Blues, Gary Cahill at Villa or Jack Hobbs reserve team captain @ Liverpool
Midfield – Joe Ledley @ Cardiff, Brian Howard @ Barnsley, Kris Commons @ Notts Forest, Martin Paterson @ Scunthorpe 9 goals from midfield this season, Darren Huckerby @ Norwich is still a good player, David Jones @ Derby excellent @ dead ball situations.
Forwards – Rob Earnshaw @ Derby, Colin Makail Smith @ Peterboro, Ricardo Fuller @ Stoke, Jermaine Beckford @ Leeds
Glad Steve Howard has gone to Leicester what is the point spending £1.5m on a player who is not good enough for the premiership.
And please please not Kevin Kyle from Coventry what a Donkey. If MM goes for him he deserves the sack.
Would be interested in what other fans think.
REMEMBER MM FORGET KEVIN KYLE or we may aswell pack up and go home

We have a very poor squad.
There is only one fit asset, Wayne Hennessey (the other is Matt Murray). Apart from maybe Kightly, the rest could all go for me!!
This squad does try hard bless them, but most are out of their depth. None apart from those mentioned could get in a Premiership side.
More logically I would retain the 2 Premiership standard Keepers. Matt last season and Wayne this season have disguised how average the team is.
Despite the views of others I would retain Breen, despite being past his best he is quality reader of the game and with half-decent pacey players around him could do a good job. The trouble is, play him with mediocraty and he will struggle to cover them. Maybe keep Foley.
Midfield lacks a driver and creativity, dare I say a Paul Ince charecter is needed. Maybe keep Kightly. The rest are mid-table talent at best.
Cast of thousands up front, but no one who has the ability to steel in and finish. Not one of them gets in where it hurts!
We would be relegated with this squad if we played in the Premiership Reserves League.
Steve, what is the plan?
On the positive side we have a proud history, a great stadium, a brilliant fan-base. Not mention thanks to Jack and yourself a healthy financial position.
Do you think we can retrieve something from this season, and will you buy at least 4 or 5 players, or is a big clear-out in readiness for a serious push next season?

wayne and kites cant be allowed to leave..the whole idea is ludicrous and it just wouldnt happen..as for team strenghening then i would say on current evidence only a fit jody craddock is worth his wages..foley started well and even he has gone to pot..we have to realise that last season was punching above our weight and this season is proving we aint good enough in any area of the team and mick might be the problem and not the solution.

What a surprise MM is after another Sunderland reject and with a name like Murphy could he be Irish.I wonder if Moxley is considering letting Kightly and Hennessey go knowing his track record its possible. If thats the case they can have my season ticket back.
Was that the Golden Handshake, wishful thinking. He is the one who needs to go and the targets mentioned show we have not been illustrious enough. We need a more sophisticated scouting set up with a more positive manager
I would be surprised if Kites and Wayne did go, they have both stated they want 1st team football and I doubt they are both ready for the PL anyway just yet. Neither have had a full season in the Championship as of yet, Kites I agree has had 2 halves but is currently injured

I can see Moxey and Morgan deciding to sell on Kightly and Hennessy. Why not we aren’t going up a division and will probably stay mid field. It’s more money for the club and less for the fans…

Pete M – Absolutely Bang On – Anyone that knows about MM is not that “keen” (pardon the pun) on coming to Wolves – except for the brown nose brigade that is!
If MM doesnt bring hardly anyone in the Jan window – it is starting to look like SM does not have any faith and wont open his cheque book for him – If this is true (as rumoured by Radio WM – that SM is sending out his own scouts) it looks like the end of the road for Mortal Mickey!
Any working relationship is normally based on trust and without it – What’s the point?
Anyway hoping that we all have a brighter 2008 all round

At least 2 creative midfielders, I like the idea as suggested earlier of Huckerby – plenty of skill and creativity and has always been a danger to the oppisition. Play him just behind the front 2, ideally Eastwood and Earnshaw (if we could get him). At least 2 centre backs as well. Mix experience with youth in my view.

31 Thats interesting, maybe he would come on a loan deal. Class player for this divion for sure. (Savage)

All this fuss about Hennesey leaving is ridiculous. The guys a liability. All the Pro Keepers in England are good shot stoppers, which Hennesey is, but he has cost us at least four crucial goals this season through his inability to command his box. He’s no better than Jonna or Oaker. Sell him for £5m and buy Big Matt some bionic limbs. Kightly must stay and for gods sake Merlin give Davies a chance or pack your bags.
I have been whinging about the need for a creative midfield player and for Elliot and Eastwood to have an extended run. Is my dream to come true…….clearly not.
The season depends on MM’s buys and their success. Clearly Morgan must see this as a gamble but what else can he do except support his manager.
One thing I am fed up about is MM’s comments after so many games that ‘we’ should have won had we taken our chances. Brilliant deduction but it’s just like |dave Jones when he ranted on and on about the team losing points because individual players ‘made mistakes’. Taking chances and not making mistakes determin the quality of all players. Those that score and don’t make errors are called the best players and to get them you have to spend real money.
Morgan must spend on a forward, a mid-field player and on a left fullback. If he sells Hennessy or Kites then my regular trip up the M6 is going to stop until the club does show ambition.
Against Hull we were wretched. At Norwich we were better but the real test will come against Crystal Palace. They are buzzing so if we clip their wings then there might be joy over the coming months.

We will not sign anyone of any quality because the club is rotten in the corridors of power. You only have to look at how the club is run(on a shoestring that is)
You go for a bite to eat at half time, unless you get there 10 mins before the half time whistle there is nothing there, half of the outlets are shut(it is all money saving)
Why can’t we keep hold of the backroom staff who have any quality, ie, Evans the academy boss and Kunle Odetoyindo (fitness coach), i will tell you why, they have better offers from other clubs and we will not match that, instead we get Sicknote and one of the quality blokes Moxey has interviewed, thats only cos they want a fiver a week.
And its the same penny pinching culture around the rest of the club and dare i say it if teams come in with £4-5 million quid offers for hennessey and Kightly then this club will not stand in their way.
Yes we have to be cautious with the money and not put the club in a difficult position but we must spend and speculate to accumulate.
I really do wish there was something positive to write but i am fed up with these people who say they have the best wishes for the club in there interests.
I think we are being run as a club with a business plan and that is to keep us as a top half Championship club with no interest in growing bigger or better where they won’t beable to compete with the big boys.
Lets have a miracle and beat the blades and cambridge.

Left Back – what happened to Mark Little)
Midfielder – Young and Creative
Left Winger – Speedy Crosser (Jarvis)
We have enough strikers who are more than capable given the service, I have never seen so many forwards coming deep to collect the ball because the midfield sits so deep.
The best form of defence is attack.
I think MM is running scared and fears losing more than anything.

Any reason we’re not playing a man whom knows where the goal is and has scored twice as many as Eastwood and Elliot this season, yes only in the Reserves but at least he’s not afraid to shoot and actually put the ball in the back of the net. Give Rosa a chance Mick, who knows, play him as much as Elliot and you might just get as many goals if not more! Mac for Ross on Wye, we’ll be shouting from the BW stand tomorrow. Let’s start the New Year with two wins.

Get anybody who can pass the ball [at all] and we will get goals. All the back four and midfield are scared of trying to past the ball. Don’t direct one player to as wetake all corners and freekicks. We are in the same position were with Dave Jones so Moxey get the cheque book out and pay good money for two quality players.Mick let your mate Mr S Ward go because he’s not a winger and will never be a forward. Also please get a real left back. Gray is not. Its not Rocket Science Mick look at what Mr Warnocks done at Palace. Get the best out of average players and build a TEAM!

8.Sedgley Wolf – Please get your facts right, Leroy Lita is going to Portsmouth (why would he come to the Championship) or Marlon Harewood (dream on), Scott Sinclair is at QPR on loan for the season (and struggling to get into their first team)and Aaron Mclean is not a big, strong forward (he is 5’6″ for god sakes).
Please can we get our facts right before we post any comments.
Up the Wolves!!

Look lets just face facts, i Mick sells Kites and Wayne he might as well just kiss his job goodbye. He isnt exactly in our goodbooks at the moment so that is going to botch his job up big time if he does that – and i for one wont be best pleased if he does.
Now onto signings – in no particularly order I suppose but these are some people that I would like to see Mick enquire about. One is a Man City yuongster, a forward, his name his Daniel Sturridge and he is only a teenager and I would rate him higher than Ishmael Miller, he isnt going to brake into Sven’s starting XI anytime soon, with him signing Nery Castillo and possibly Peter Crouch, he would be worth approaching on loan until the end of the season.
We need a centre back because Neil Collins is not really up to Championship standard, and I would look a long the line of maybe Gary Cahill of Villa. I know a lot of people might not agree with me but I wouldnt mind Chris Morgan from Sheffield United because he plays with his heart on his sleeve and all in all he aint that bad a player.
Midfielders, now obviously we have been looking at Joe Ledley so he is a possiblilty. But one player who I wouldnt mind at Mol is Robbie Savage, now I know he is the player that everybody loves to hate, but he is unhappy at blackburn and he could give us added bite in the middle of the park.
Now back to strikers, Stuart Fleetwood of Forest Green has scored THIRTY goals in all competitions already this season, which is more than the whole of our team put together. If Mick wants to get his hands on prolific 21 year old who once scored 104 goals in one season for a team ccalled Newent Youth! Also Aaron Maclean wouldnt be the worse buy in the world because he worked with Michael Kightly at Grays so I presume they would have a pretty good understanding.
Anyway thats all, we will find out on Feb 1st who he has signed if is still Mick in charge.
In Mick we trust

MM Northern born
sternly bred
strong in arm
and thick in head.
The problem is so clear that even I can see it from Oz. MM’s strategy is one dimensional so all the dross at the bottom of the Championship have easily implemented defensive patterns to knock Wolves over. If MM won’t change then he needs to further his career at another club – West Brom would do nicely.
Stick with ‘em Wolves supporters. The players are OK. They just need direction and leadership.

To be perfectly honest , if and l say if by some fluke we managed to scrape our way into the premiership we would be the Derby County of next season . The reason? We have nothing to build on – Mr Morgan’s £30m wouldn’t go far in enabling us to establish ourselves and l fear we would be cannon fodder for the rest of the division.
l must admit l cast an envious eye towards our “friends” in Sandwell – with one or two tweaks they look to have the basis for a sustained period in the premiership .

i don’t care about players anymore, just get a new manager & then we can buy HIS players, because mccarthy won’t be here next season if we don’t go up(he would probably of been given more time but after what has been going on, he’ll be out)

26. Foley has been playing with an ankle injury for about 6 weeks now, so we can hardly blame him if he is not on top form. As usual the blame lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the hapless McCarthy.
I could see Kites leaving in the summer if a Prem club came in for him and who could blame him given the ambition shown by Steve Morgan to date. I think Foley is another that could come into this category if he has a good second half to the season. I see Hennessey differently though. If he joined a Prem club it would likely be a lesser one and as a number 2 for a while. He has the jersey at Wolves and is gaining experience every week and Matt is still very injury prone. So at least another season at Wolves would probably be better for him.

I have read through all the comments posted on this site. It would appear very few contributors are true fans of Wolves F.C. If they were they would spend less time knocking all the hard work that goes into providing their own entertainment.
Now who leaves and who stays?
It is far better to have a central core of a few really good players, Hennessey And Kites being two. Add to those the likes of Peter Halmosi from Plymouth, You could offer Rosa as make-weight in the deal. This chap is so like Paul Ince as a player a must buy. Young Davies should be given his chance. The forwards we have are plenty good enough. Defence depends on who we can afford and more important who can be persuaded to come!
Management- the old addage dont change horses in mid stream is one to bear in mind. Encourage dont punish.
Thought no.9 Jock made a lot of sense.

We signed a striker with a proven record for scoring over 20 goals a season at this level in the summer. If anyone thinks the transfer market is going to turn us into a goalscoring team are kidding themselves.
What Mick looks for in a striker is the ability to hold the ball up, a work rate and tackling back. Goals are not high on the requirements.
As any Sunderland, Millwall or Ireland fan will tell you we will not see many goals or flair under this manager.
If Kevin Philips were a Wolves player he would not score 20 goals this season for 2 reasons. One because we would not create 20 chances for him. And two because Mick would not pick him cause he doesn’t put much of a shift in.
So if the transfer market brought us Van Nistelroy and Etu I still wouldn’t bet on us scoring 50 goals this season.
Joe Ledley scored today so thats another million on his head which I would not pursue at any cost. Chris Commons of Forest still readiy springs to mind as the kind of creative, goal scoring midfielder that we need. Also does anyone have any info on this guy Ebanks-Blake who is banging in the goals down at Plymouth?

I wonder where we should be had Kites and Breen and Craddock not get injured. We would have done a lot better during December that’s for sure.
Looking at Dembers fixtures they were an excellent opportunity for us to ‘kick on’. In the event the results showed that we are not a top six side without the above players.
I really am fed up with the absence of Eastwood. It is getting rediculous. MM must give the lad a chance – if only to put him in the shop window for an eventual transfer. The longer Eastwood is left out the less confidence I have in MM.
Lets have no illusions. promotion this year is not going to happen and I’m not knocking anyone – I’m just puutting my views forward which is what all supporters are allowed to do. Listen – up Cornish Wolf.

I’ve been trying to stay positive and keep right behind the coaching staff and the players, but 2008 looks like being a familiar story and I’m getting heartsick of supporting a goal-shy team. Drastic surgery is required. Goals win matches and bring league points. We have to invest now in coaches and players who know how to put the ball into the back of the net. We mustn’t squander Steve Morgan’s money as with did with poor old Sir Jack’s.

Season ticket holder BW – Supporter since 62/3 season. Ducked last 3 home games due to some of the poorest quality football I can ever recall. 4 points out of a possible 21 underlines the poor organisation and lack of quality on display. MM has to go and the sooner the better. I had high hopes for this 07/08 season but think it unlikely we will even get to the playoffs with clown MM in charge. Get Paul Ince in now and pay him whatever is needed.

Unlike most wolves fans, I feel sorry for MM. He’s joined a team that truelly has no ambition. There is something fundamentally wrong with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and there always will be. Too much Money these days. And it’s true what people are saying, Freddy would score 20 a season if he had the supply- If he was an albion striker imagine how many he’d score a season…

66 Cornish Wolf. You obviously have not seen the team this season or you would not use the term “entertainment”. The dross that has been served up week in week out is anything but entertainment and today was no diffferent.

Post 69 (DJ). Didn’t the free scoring Kevin Phillips from the Baggies play under Mad Mick during his disasterous Sunderland days? I recall the boy couldn’t buy a goal under Mad Micks tatics there. Aston Villa revitalised his career then shipped him out to the Baggies & the Sandwell boys are now reaping the dividends of a proven goal scorer who puts in the correct “shift” each week like putting the ball in the net, that must make Happy Baggie a “Happy Baggie”. Does any Wolves supporter remember what the feeling is like to see the ball in the net? Like many of posts being written, we are all clearly unhappy with this current direction our great club is heading & would demand Steve Morgan address these serious issues effective immediately. This man knows what success means to supporters with his previous involvement with Liverpool FC.
Come on Steve show your Black & Gold commitment to the Wolves Fans & they will embrace, accept & support you. We have not had a really good season at all from the kick-off, so how can we be heading in the right direction as would seem to be claimed. The players he has spent your money on are not playing in the side. Even Hoddle stated when he was with the Wolves, the academy was one of the best he had seen & Mark Davies was a talent to behold with an enormous future. Is that future away from the Wolves like J.Lescott, R.Keane? Please sort it out?

Robbie Earnshaw is a proven goalscorer in the Championship! He may not cut it in the Premiership but we need to get there first. He is without doubt the best viable option open to us.
We can’t afford to gamble on a lower league prospect. We need goals and we need them now!
He clearly doesn’t feature in Derbys plans for this season. And would probably jump at the chance to join up with his Welsh team mate Freddie Eastwood.
Who else is as proven as Earnshaw in the Championship? and more importantly would actually want to join us?
Thoughts please?

1st, I hold a season ticket and have each season since I proved to be not a good enough player to be signed by my beloved Wolves having played youth football for Wolves. In 1958.
This year, due to ill health I have only travelled the 370 miles each way on 6 occasions and 2 away games. I bow to the fact that you must have seen more of the team ergo more poor performances but plead with you for restraint. It can, after all only get better. Take it from one who watched far far worse Wolves teams in the distant past. Keep the faith!
Up the Wolves.
