Bob Catley and Tony Clarkin of MagnumGenerous rock fans packed into a Wolverhampton club last night, digging deep to raise funds for a special cause.

Midlands rockers Magnum performed a one-off charity gig and auction at the Robin 2 in aid of former drummer and co-founder Kex Gorin, who was admitted to hospital recently after being diagnosed with cancer.

The auction consisted of rock memorabilia donated by many famous artists, and included rare Led Zeppelin vinyls, signed guitars, concert programmes and posters of original Magnum album covers signed by the band.

The band’s management estimate around £10,000 being raised for Kex Gorin and his family.

Magnum which is made up of singer Bob Catley, drummer Jimmy Copley, bassist Al Barrow, guitarist Tony Clarkin, and Mark Stanway on keyboards then played a thumping near two-hour set.

Songs ranged from their best-known like Back Street Kid, Start Talkin’ Love, Vigilante, How Far Jerusalem and All England’s Eyes, to Dragons are Real and When We Were Younger from their most recent CD, Princess Alice and the Broken Arrow.

The rockers ended the show with a rapturous encore of Kingdom of Madness and Sacred Hour.
