Mincher the pincher
Monday 10th December 2007, 1:34PM GMT.
Lee Mincher got three goals to steel the headlines in a game that was marred by some ugly incidents that sore Mark Cooper sent off and three others booked in this 9-0 league win over Casper Stile.
With Lee Onions getting the first goal things seemed to be fine as the Cheesemen played their game of passing and moving but for some reason they stopped playing and started to retaliate to some heavy tackles that Casper FC gave out.
It seems that this was there plan to put the Ashmore off and for a time it worked.
Tony Brown got the second for the Ashmore but the bad tackles kept coming from both sides.
The ref did well to keep a lid on things and had warned players about their conduced.
Soon it was 3-0 when Cooper scored his 27th of the season to see the home go in at half time 3-0 up.
At half time the referee called the Ashmore manager to one side and warned him about his players conduct.
Whatever was said to Padir Brewster it lit a fuses as he went back to his team and was like a man possessed he pick up the water bottle carrier smashed it on the ground and in rage and gave all his players the hairdryer treatment – even the away side looked shocked.
He told them that if one more racial remark was said then the ref would abandon the game. Brewster was heard saying if that was the case then he would be walking away from the team and never to return this was a massive statement from a man that bitterly loves this club.
In the second half the message got across as the Ashmore just played football. Onions got his second of the game to make it 4-0 then Lee Mincher scored 3 very good goals and got the man of the match.
At 7-0 up the Ash just toyed with Casper F.C. Hale 1 and goalkeeper Cooke scored from a penalty to make the final score 9-0.
Manager Padir Brewster said about his half time outburst that this club had been in hot water over a racial issue in the 90s that caused a shadow over the club for many years and I will not go down that road again.
He went on to say that the Ashmore Inn F.C. does not condone anyone who may make racial comments in any shape or form.
