Sam 2 spring a netball shock
Tuesday 4th December 2007, 11:37AM GMT.
There was a real surprise in Division 1 of the Wolverhampton City Netball League.
Whitmore Y were only losing by three goals at half-time but they the allowed Sam 2 to sprint ahead to a 29-13 win.
Whitmore’s Kate Flute and Kelly Gowland defended with considerable spirit but Sam’s Beth Matthews and Sharon Hudson in Attack, along with Anne Edwards and Hazle Monroe in Centre Court, proved unstoppable.
Also in Division 1, Wednesfield, having lost their ‘first centre’ advantage, just could not reclaim that mislaid first goal opportunity and Whitmore X retained a one goal lead at half-time and at close of play.
Likewise Chasers’ half-time four goal lead was retained by closing a four goal win over DK Ladies despite some hearty defence moves by Sally Payne and Hannah Coyle.
Being one player down, Division 2’s Static Systems did well to finish only five goals short of PHX whilst Crescent’s Centre Court – Margaret Jones, Andrea Gittings and Mel Prescott contained their opponents – Vicki Loach, Toni Cubberley and Vicki Green of Sedgley Cabin.
In Division 3, Lucas, losing by two goals at half-time, surprised J & G Builders by pulling back steadily throughout the second half to close with a win of 37-32.
