Perrywood 1 Greenhill FC 7
Monday 3rd December 2007, 3:00PM GMT.
On Saturday Halesowen based Greenhill FC’s thumping 7-1 win away at Perrywood in Mid Combination Division 2 was overshadowed by a nasty broken leg sustained by left back John Milne.
Greenhill went in 2-0 up at the break with goals by top scorer Adam Wooldridge and Andy Speake putting Greenhill in the driving seat.
Darren Smith added a third shortly after the break with his first goal of the season.
Ten minutes into the second half the game was stopped and held up for 50 minutes after Greenhill’s John Milne broke his leg following a late challenge by a Perrywood player.
The ambulance crew arrived within 15 minutes but given the severity of the player’s injury it took them a further 35 minutes to treat and move the player after administering pain killing drugs.
The game re-started in subdued fashion but Greenhill were determined to win the game for the injured Milne and added a further four goals through Wooldridge again, a thunderbolt from Lee Baker and two goals in an explosive substitute appearance by youngster Darren Wothers to record the club’s biggest win in it’s history.
Despite the light starting to fail the full 90 minutes were completed.
GFC keeper Mark Whitehouse celebrated his 100 appearance for the club by being captain for the day.
On Sunday Milne underwent a 5 hour operation at Worcester Royal Hospital and is expected to remain in hospital for most of the week.
Greenhill entertain to Chelmsley on Saturday in the Challenge Cup, 1.30pm kick-off.
