Parking fees set for chop
Monday 26th November 2007, 9:09PM GMT.
Parking charges in Cannock town centre are to be scrapped in the run-up to Christmas in a festive boost for shops.
The Express & Star has learned Cannock Chase Council is investigating a plan to allow visitors to the town to park for free in the two Saturdays before Christmas.
This is a repeat of a similar scheme last year which was seen by many businesses as a vital boost to their Christmas trade.
Under the plan all car parking charges on council-owned car parks will be free on December 15 and December 22. This will also include car parks in Rugeley. Hednesford town centre offers two hours free parking normally. The plan is expected to go before the council’s ruling cabinet for approval on December 13.

I think that the car parks are expensive to park in the rest of the year and should be looked at. I park in the multi story and my goodness it always smells like a public toilet, especially the lifts and the stairs are so dangerous as they are slippy when wet. Something should be done to encourage more people to cannock anyway and the car parking alone is enough to put anyone off.
