The 50-year-old man was discovered unconscious at a bus stop in Stourbridge Road close to The Blue Brick pub just before 11 last night.

Paramedics took the injured man to Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, where he is in a critical condition today.

The bus stop remained sealed off today as police attempted to discover whether the man had been attacked or had suffered his injuries in an accident.

Police believe he had been drinking in The Blue Brick pub yesterday evening with two other men.

Detectives from Dudley CID are now appealing for those two men to come forward. Acting DCI Mark Bramwell said: “We are certainly keen to talk to people that may have been with him at The Blue Brick pub last night. I would also appeal for any witnesses who saw anything in that area at around 11pm to get in touch. At this stage we are trying to establish how he came to have these injuries.”

Murray MacGregor, spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said the man did not regain consciousness on his way to hospital. Witnesses should call Dudley CID on 0845 1135000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
