A week after gaining their first away point of the season Willenhall recorded their second last night against a Stourport team who have recently staged a revival after a poor start to the season.
Willenhall made one change from the side that lost to Romulus on Saturday, new signing Marlon Walters made his return to the club from Bromsgrove.
And he was involved in a lovely passing move between four players that nearly opened Willenhall’s account, Mark Briggs firing just over.
Five minutes later, veteran John Williams was unlucky to see his header drift just over the bar.
Stourport responded and almsit took the lead against the run of play.
Craig Marshall was in the mix in the penalty area and as he poked the ball towards goal only a smart reaction save from Steve Jackson kept the scores level.
Just before the break Willenhall nearly took the lead with a pre-rehearsed corner routine.
A short pass by Adam Cain found Craig Milligan in space on the edge of the area, and he had time to curl the ball towards goal, unfortunately his effort went just wide.
The second half was a much more tame affair, with chances few and far between.
Good work by Darren Andrews on the right saw his cross find Marshall, who could only guide his header just over the bar.
Willenhall then threatened when a Adam Cain free-kick curled across the area evading everybody apart from a Stourport defender who could only watch the ball hit him and go out for a corner.
After the hour mark and the Willenhall defence nearly gifted the home side the lead.
Ross Miller misjudged what should have been a routine header back to the goalkeeper and Jackson had to dash back quickly to ensure the ball didn’t cross the line.
The best chance either side had came just five minutes from time. Another inviting cross from the right found Marshall again, and he will still be kicking himself for missing a free header from three yards.
