Lye Town 0 Dudley Sports 1

Monday 29th October 2007, 10:16AM GMT.

The opening encounters of this Black Country derby were very scrappy with no team giving a inch, Lye Town started the brighter and were having the better of the exchanges going close early on when a deep cross from Marsh was headed towards goal but Jay Trav Dudley’s keeper was more than equal to the chance.

Lye very nearly opened in the tenth minute from a corner when Ash Greenway rose to head the ball from the edge of the penalty spot but Mitch Lester headed off the line to keep the scores level.

Dudley were now getting a footing in the game and were beginning to create chances themselves the better of which saw Anthony Cox set himself up and volley narrowly wide.

The resulting corner lead to Dudley taking the lead when a fine delivery by Mitch Lester was headed home by veteran Chris Howard at the near post.

The first half petered out with both defenses well on top and no real clear cut chances.

The second half opened with Sports looking very strong at the back and equal to any thing Lye could throw at them, that changed when Rob Taylor on loan from Stourbridge came on to the pitch and gave Lye a new dimension to there game, the game then became very stretched and it was now Dudley on the back foot but with the pace of Cox and Joshua they always looked threatening on the counter attack, that nearly lead to Dudley’s doubling there advantage when Joshua rounded the keeper but just failed to convert the chance after the lively Cox had slipped him thru with a great run and pass.

All in all a good day for Dudley Sports this was there first ever League victory over there neighbors Lye Town and keeps the Sports in the top ten.
