First picture of ‘miracle’ Amy
Monday 29th October 2007, 11:49AM GMT.
This is the first picture of “miracle” child Amy Samuel who has amazed doctors by battling back from the brink of death after becoming trapped beneath her mother’s car.
Two-year-old Amy Samuel is still in hospital after the accident near her home in Darlaston on Wednesday but she is now out of intensive care. Her mother, Caroline Samuel, and father Gavin Manns have been at her bedside at Birmingham Children’s Hospital ever since the accident outside the SureStart building in Crescent Road last Wednesday.
Her grandfather, Alan Manns, of Smith Road, Darlaston, today said he was proud of his “little princess” for pulling through.
He gave the Express & Star this photograph of Amy at her second birthday party – which had a princess theme – earlier this year and said: “She loves princesses and is my little princess. She is such a little fighter.
“When I heard what had happened I was devastated and we all feared the worst but she has come through. She is a sweet girl with such a bubbly personality. I went to see her yesterday and she was out of intensive care and has been placed on to another ward where she is recovering from her ordeal.
“The consultants are due to see her today so we are waiting to hear what they have to say. But I believe they have been amazed by the progress she has made. I am so proud of her.
“Gavin and Caroline have never left her bedside since the accident. Obviously they have been distraught but are also so proud of her. She is a miracle.”
Caroline, of Old Park Road, Darlaston, has three other children from a previous relationship including Britney, Jack and Ashley.
She said “a miracle” brought her daughter through the ordeal and credited son Ashley with saving her life by pulling on the handbrake to stop the car rolling any further. Police still want witnesses of the 2.30pm accident to call them on 0845 113 5000.
