Brewster defends Brown

ashmore.jpgAshmore manager Padir Brewster has said that some people have a short memory when it comes to goal scoring.

After some supporters called for Tony Brown to be dropped from the team. Brewster said we have 5 other outfield players who are scoring and just because Tony has not hit the target as much as last season that is no reason to leave him if I did who would do all the donkey work for Mark Cooper.

Tony’s running off the ball’ closing players down’ tackling and hard work is what is keeping him in the side and not his goal scoring.

Although Brown scored in the Ashmore’s 1-4 win over Homestead in the League some people still had a dig.

But with Brown having Brewster on his side is only a good thing as Brewster has a history of showing loyalty to players at all his previous clubs.

With Homestead struggling at the foot of the division this seemed a banker for the Ashmore.

But with the Ashmore having to change their formation due to in house problems with some players the boss went with three at the back.

So with the Ashmore having all the play in the first half and just not able to score past the Home sides Keeper who had a good game the cheesemen had to pick up the pace in the 2nd half.

But things went wrong at first when after 20mins in to the second half and Ashmore having all the play the inevitable happened with a long ball from the Homestead Keeper and a hit and hope shot from Ken Fellows the home side tuck the lead.

That was not in the script but what was to come was the Ash woke up like a sleeping giant with Onions and Hale putting in Tackles and moving the ball quickly things started to work.

In the last 15 mins all the Home side where camped in their own half when Rickuss played the ball to Cartwright he put the ball down the line to Mincher who put in Mark Cooper who lobed the ball into the net 1-1 2mins latter up came Rogers who played a nice wall pass with Brown and placed his low shot into the corner of the net now being 1-2.

The Ash went looking for more and it wasn’t long before Pugh played in under fire Brown how tuck his time and shot hard and low for the 3rd and when Mincher beat his man and went on a run to the by line got his cross in for Lee Onions to smash home a right footed volley to make it 1-4 the game was over.

Manager Padir Brewster said we all worked hard today so it’s nice to get the result he had a special word for his goalkeeper Lee Cooke whom carried a neck injury all game and never put a foot wrong.
Team Cooke 8 Cartwright A 7 Pugh 7 Rickhuss 7 Cooper 7 Onions 7 Mincher 7 Brown 7 Rogers 7 Hale 7 Sandland Subs Cartwright (J) 7 Healy

Next game is at Ashmore Park on Sunday 4th November KO 10.30 Three Tuns are the visitors in the League.
