Builder donates cash for ball
Thursday 25th October 2007, 11:30AM BST.
A building firm has laid the foundations for a charity ball featuring X Factor finalists 4Sure by donating money to help cover costs.
Kendrick Construction has given £2,000 towards the Halloween-themed event at Banks’s Stadium tomorrow.
Only a few tickets are left for the party, being thrown to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice, which cares for terminally ill children across the Black Country.
And it is fitting that it is Walsall-based Kendrick that is sponsoring the ball as it was the firm that built the hospice, in Walstead Road West.

Peter Farmer, managing director, said: “We think Acorns is a great cause and we are pleased to be working with the NHS in supporting them.” The ball has been organised by Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust.
Tom Jinks, senior project manager, said: “We have just a few tickets left, and we’re hoping that we can sell out to support this great cause – Acorns Children’s Hospice.
“We want to support the specialist Acorns nurses who care for hundreds of local families. We have been encouraged to organise something really special, and aim to raise £2,000 for Acorns. It will be a memorable night.” It will become an annual occasion if it proves a success. As well as a performance by boyband 4Sure, awards will be presented to outstanding health workers. Top doctors, nurses and volunteers will be among the individuals to receive a Golden Heart Award.
The ball will strengthen ties already established between 4Sure and the hospice. Band members visited youngsters and performed an impromptu concert for them in June. Head nurse Ann Smallman said: “It was wonderful that the band were able to spend so long with the children and families, it was really appreciated.” Tickets cost £40 and include a four course dinner. Call Mr Jinks on 07940 783575 to book.
Another fundraiser will take place, also tomorrow, in aid of Acorns. An Elvis tribute act will perform at Baggeridge Miners’ Club at the Straits, Lower Gornal, Dudley, at 8pm followed by a disco. Book on 01384 263975.
