A Midland teenager who has become the region’s own Willy Wonka has moved his very own piece of chocolate heaven out of his garage and into a factory to cope with demand for his tasty creations.

Louis Barnett, aged 15, started his chocolate-making business from his home in Enville Road, Kinver, last year with the help of his parents Phil and Mary. But after interest in the tasty treats rocketed, Louis’s firm, Chokolit, has moved from its humble beginnings to a fully-equipped site in Bridgnorth.

He has also taken on extra staff to help.

And the new site will be buzzing with activity as Louis, his parents and staff work around the clock to get the chocolate on the shelves in time for Christmas.

Supermarket giants Waitrose and Sainsbury’s have already agreed to stock the confections – which come in an edible box.

Louis presented the pitch to officials at Sainbury’s himself and was commended for his presentation.

And he has also been given another boost after being nominated for a young entrepreneur award in a national competition.

It tops off a successful 12 months for the youngster who left school at 11 for home tutoring after being diagnosed with dyslexia and has since concentrated on gaining qualifications in chocolate making.

The name of his firm is how Louis used to spell chocolate because of his dyslexia.

Louis’ father Phil said it was great to move on to the factory site even though there was a lot of hard work ahead.

“We actually purchased the factory site earlier in the year but because things have been so busy we have only just been able to move in,” he said.

“It is a great unit and now the work can begin. It is certainly a step up from where it all started in the garage.

“We have also taken on three full-time and two part-time staff to help us meet the orders over the next few months. It is a very exciting time.” Louis said: “I love it and I love the pressure. I love chocolate and it is not about the money.”
