Mail box poster warning

Monday 8th October 2007, 12:12PM BST.

envelopes.jpgPosters have been placed on postboxes across the Midlands urging people not to use them and to take any mail to the nearest Post Office. The move by the Royal Mail comes as it faces a mountain of mail from strikes last week and a new 48-hour walkout starting today.

The posters declare: “Important notice. Please do not post in this box. We cannot guarantee a collection from October 4-9 inclusive. Please take mail to the nearest post office.”

Royal Mail today insisted that the postal strike was crumbling as staff started the new strike.

Royal Mail maintained that 50 per cent more workers were defying the walkouts than during previous stoppages, but were unable to provide figures .

Staff believe new flexible working practices, at the centre of the dispute, are being introduced from today at the sorting office in Sun Street, Wolverhampton, where 800 staff handle 2 million letters for the region.

The Communications Workers Union said members were firmly behind the action over pay, pensions and new working practices – and warned of more strikes.

How thick skinned can Royal Mail be? Its only a matter of time before the country crumbles, not the strike.

Many people/businesses have already been affected by the strike.

Maybe this is the start of the end of Royal Mail?

Dave I agree. More and more companys will be looking at the likes of dhl etc. My company has already moved our parcel section to a private company and we send very few letters as its almost always via email. This will spell the end for royal mail in the long run

Well it worked out all right for the miners a couple of decades ago. Oh wait, they ended up not working in the mines….

The various items I’ve ordered in the past few days have come from companies who have switched to other organisations to deliver the letters and parcels.
Now seems to be a good time to invest in alternate carriers.

To be honest it’s a shame that postal workers are acting like sheep and following what the Union are telling them. It’s like watiching lambs being led to the slaughter! Postal workers please listen to someone with common sense before you all make yourselves redundant and loose even more money then you already have. People will adapt and use other service providers (like some people already are) and your services will no longer be needed and what will you do for work then?

It’s a shame that they are acting like sheep and listening to a Union that is doing them no favours at all. It’s like watching lambs being led to the slaughter! All they are doing are loosing money and potentially making themselves redundant. People are finding otherways to send mail. Postal workers please use some common sense before you make things more difficult for yourselves

How Silly Royal mail workers are… Dont they realise they dont have the monopoly on mail any more? The company is restructuring so it can save thousands of jobs. The actions of the workers will ensure that more big contracts are lost and they will probably lose even more jobs than they would have. Get real, no one in the real world has the perks they do! Mr Cozier is bringing Royal Mail into the modern world!

    Dearie me!

Bulk-mail contracts went to DHL or TNT, or whatever. That’s junk-mail and bills for those who don’t know. These businesses have chosen to have their mail stamped by TNT – BUT delivered by Royal Mail.

Remember a little while back: your MILKMAN delivered your TruPrint photos. Your photos were left on the doorstep with the milk… no wonder that contract didn’t last.

Whatever happens: Whatever stamp is on your letter (mostly junk and bills) the Royal Mail is still the only business which delivers your letters.

After my experience with royal fail trying to deliver a computer, i’ll never trust them with anything bigger than a letter anyway. There are other firms waiting to offer a quicker less expensive delivery service anyway. With modern technolgy and the speed of e-mails and mobile texting why use snail-mail anyway.
