Villa stars in England squad

Friday 5th October 2007, 12:11PM BST.

Gareth BarryThree Villa players were today named in the England squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia.

Captain Gareth Barry, Ashley Young and on-loan keeper Scott Carson are all in Steve McClaren’s party for the games against Estonia at Wembley a week tomorrow and the trip to Russia the following Wednesday.

But there was no place for Nigel Reo-Coker or striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, who has scored three goals in four games.

West Ham striker Dean Ashton, who has the same recent record as Agbonlahor, has made the squad.

Wolves winger Michael Kightly joins Villa trio Agbonlahor, Luke Moore and Craig Gardner in the England under-21 squad ahead of a vital qualification double-header.

Stuart Pearce’s side face Montenegro at Leicester’s Walkers Stadium next Friday before playing Republic of Ireland in Dublin next week.

“I’m delighted to be back in. I got a bit of action last time out and hopefully I can figure again this time,” said Kightly.

“The focus is on Wolves until the weekend finishes and then I want to play a part in helping us get to (the European Championships in) Sweden in 2009.”

I hope ashley young starts. I think he is a better player than joe cole. Joe cole has not got a left foot and always has to come inside when you would rather he got to the byline and put in a cross.

hope barry gets a chance ahead of lampard he deserves to play.
but no doubt he will be a sub. personally I really belive England should play 4-5-1 with lamps, gerrard and barry swapping positions through out the match.

Well done to all Villa players who have kept there place in the england squad. Have to say Barry has to start in midfield with Gerrard, and Carson must replace Robinson in goal. Much better keeper than Calamity James.

    8. skubba: What medication you on?
    I think you meant EUROPE.
But just to prove you wrong, if one of the lower league teams i.e. WBA or Wolves win the F.A. Cuo, they go into the Cup Winners Cup, which I think is still in Europe!
