Stourbridge Snooker League
Friday 5th October 2007, 12:56PM BST.
Baggeridge Social A eased two points clear at the top of the Stourbridge Snooker League Premier Division by trouncing Dibdale SC A 5-0 away from home with the highlight being Ryan Evans’ break of 56.
Brierley Hill SC A had to fight to retain their unbeaten start. David Oakes and Richard Lampitt for Brierley Hill and Tom Johnson and Carl Sadler for Stourbridge Institute A had shared the first four frames, but Eliott Bastable with a 63 break made no mistake in the decider to keep his team in second place.
Rob Howen won for Brandhall Labour, but Kinver recovered to take the other four frames with Simon Hickman, Mick Faulkner and Andrew Highfield all playing particularly well. Bearwood Cons, who finished third in their first season last year, opened their winning account, 4-1 at Amblecote Institute, while Gareth Ward won the decider for Pockets on the tables of Harts Hill Social.
Kingswinford Cons A extended their unbeaten start in division 1, beating Norton Social B 4-1 to go joint top of the First Division.
The experienced pair of Roy Blewitt and Ivor Jones both won and Paul Marsh and John Hawker, both experiencing the higher grade of snooker for the first time, continued their good start.
Dominic Allen took Norton’s consolation frame.
Stourbridge Institute B did well to beat Brierley Hill SC C 3-2 and held on to a share of the lead with Harry Jones winning the decider against Daryl Garland.
Barry Young made a break of 41 in Amblecote RBL A’s 3-2 victory against Netherton Liberals, and his team are only two points away from the leaders, but Kinver B and Kingswinford SC both made progress with 5-0 maximums against Kingswinford RBL and Amblecote Institute B respectively.
There was little change at the top of division 2 as the three unbeaten teams all won again.
Amblecote Institute D beat their F team 4-1 and Andrew Guildford set a target for the highest break of 45.
His brother, Stephen, Gerald Lyons and Mike Richards completed the win, although Brian Taylor did well to take a frame for the F team against Colin Lewis.
Stourbridge Institute D beat Dibdale SC B 4-1 to hold on to a share of the lead, Roy Tromans retaining his unbeaten record, while Stourbridge Institute C had to dig deep to beat their E team 3-2.
Jon Saunders and Martin Harris on the black won for the C team, but Tom Hamilton and Brian Arnold squared matters for the E team.
Paul Garbett took the decider to keep the C team in third place, one point adrift.
Pensnett Libs B won their first match – Adam Fisher, John Round and Steve Meakin combined to edge out Kingswinford Cons C away from home and Kinver C’s Steve Nicholls remained unbeaten to help his team to a 4-1 win at Wombourne B.
