Post workers’ talks fail
Friday 5th October 2007, 1:00PM BST.
Tough talking Royal Mail refused to back down as the postal dispute bit deep into the West Midlands today.
They insisted that changes in working practices, at the heart of the walkout, would be introduced whether Communication Workers Union ( CWU ) strikers liked it or not.
Royal Mail spokeswoman Jane Thomas insisted: “ The union’s determination to continue to call its members out on strike will not change the urgent need for us to modernise and become more flexible and efficient if we are to survive.”
The current stoppage ends at noon tomorrow but another 48-hour walkout is set to being in the early hours of Monday, meaning that post will not start returning to normal until late next week at the earliest.
Royal Mail today urged people to use Post Offices to post letters during the dispute. There are no immediate plans to start sealing post boxes even if the dispute drags on.

Its not every postie on strike. Like any strike, some will have the time off and some will go into work.
Just screws up businesses and individuals get annoyed. Oh well, TNT mail looks better and better by the day.

Jane Thomas, wake up, smell the coffee, would you accept a poorer pension deal than the one you signed up to?,would you deliver leaflets for nothing, would you cover deliveries for no extra pay, would you agree with later start times that give buisnesses a poorer delivery and push buisness mail into the hands of our competitors, not to mention d2d and the IR joke that RM have come up with. The list goes on,over worked ,under paid and run by muppets,x

Hmmm…seems like over the past few years the services have dropped.
No 2nd post, no Sunday collection at the post box, much, much later post delivery (often after lunch) and now strike delays. And letters taking up to 3 weeks to travel a dozen miles these days (at least for me) even without strikes.
Used to be able to send letters and almost always get there quick.
