Postponement after ref drama
Monday 17th September 2007, 2:39PM BST.
Sat 15th Sept, 2007: Feckenham Res 1 -0 Greenhill FC (match abandoned) – Mid Com Div 2.
Bizarre circumstances lead to Halesowen based Greenhill’s game at Feckenham Reserves to be abandoned on Saturday after just 37 minutes.
The referee and one linesman failed to turn up to the game leaving linesman Andy Gadsby-Dyer to referee with each club supplying a linesman.
Greenhill gave a sloppy goal away after 10 minutes but otherwise had the best of the game.
After 30 minutes Greenhill goalkeeper Mark Whitehouse was injured and was replaced by Simon Wilson between the sticks.
On 37 minutes the referee suddenly collapsed with an epileptic fit, and remained unconscious.
Players and officials from both sides ran to the referees aid and called an ambulance.
After treatment from a paramedic Mr Gadsby-Dyer regained consciousness and was able to get to his feet but was taken to hospital for tests.
With no other official at the game it was abandoned 8 minutes before half-time and will be re-played at a later date.
Mr Gatsby-Dyer has recovered well and attended college as normal on the Monday after the game.
Greenhill are away to Droitwich in the Endsleigh Cup Prelim Rnd next Saturday, 3pm KO.
