Four-year ban for hooligan

Wednesday 12th September 2007, 11:48AM BST.

wd2010098hooligan-8.jpgA Wolves hooligan who hurled a missile in a “disgraceful riot” on Black Country derby day has been hit with a four-year banning order.

Showcase cinema worker Krishan Patel, aged 19, was part of a mob of up to 150 yobs who vented their fury at police when Albion visited Molineux in January.

Patel, who is also a student at the University of Central England in Birmingham, was caught on police camera during the trouble and pictured in the Express & Star afterwards.

Yesterday the teenager, of Catherine Road, Coseley, was given a suspended jail sentence by a judge who said the community would have been terrified by the football violence.

The FA Cup match ended with one of the worst outbreaks of football violence the city has seen in years. Eleven officers were injured as bricks, bollards and road signs were thrown.

Pate, who admitted throwing a missile, was said to be angry that Wolves had lost 3-0 and that home fans had been moved from their seats in the Jack Harris stand to make way for the visiting supporters.

As well as the banning order, he was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Kanwa Juss, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday that the atmosphere became “quite hostile” when Wolves fans were separated from rival supporters at the end of the match.

The court was shown a video of Patel, who had drunk one-and-a-half pints of lager, in amongst scores of fans marching aggressively through the city centre. He admitted to violent disorder.

Judge Anthony Cleary said he had “pencilled in” a nine-month jail term for Patel when he had read details of the case against him.

He said: “Your behaviour was utterly disgraceful. This offence frightens and even terrifies the community and seeing that film shows effectively a riot taking place in an English town with young hooligans throwing missiles at the police who are trying their best to protect the community.

“You are a football hooligan and you deserve to go to prison.”

But he said that “by some stroke of mercy and good fortune” to Patel, other hooligans involved in the trouble had been given suspended sentences and Patel should not be treated differently.

Wolves dont need nutters like these at Molineux, ban him for life, decent people like to feel safe, when going to a football match, win lose or draw. He brings a bad name to football, in generall and Wolves, who hes supposed to support. Ban him for life from Molineux.

    Well said people,

in spite of the derisory comments we throw at each other on these pages,
it`s good to know a decent heart beats within each of us.

A few years ago, i took 2 of my daughters then aged 6 & 8, to the Mol to watch the Baggies in a reserve team game.

They wanted to wear their shirts,
so i thought, reserve game, yes why not, no problem,
    how wrong i was

Everyone at the game was seated in the upper Billy Wright,
and within 10 mins of the game starting we had about a dozen lads aged between about 16 to 25 abusing my girls and myself, you know the kind of thing,

s*** fan dad with his s*** fan kids
and wait till you get outside.

My girls were absolutely terrified and crying, but that just seemed to make lads even more venomous.

I was ready to have a go, and was letting them know that, well you would would`nt you,
at that several Wolves fans who were sitting elsewhere basicaly came to our rescue,
these lads were told in no uncertain terms to leave us be,
stewards then arrived and threw the lads out of the ground.

And the guys that helped us were not content until they had given us safe passage back to my car after the game.

Whilst i hold those thugs in utter contempt,
i have the highest regard for those men that helped us that night.

So when people go on about, i hate Wolves & i hate Albion,
    that aint for me.

The fact he drank only 1.5 pints of lager makes the situation even worse as he (should) be within the legal drink drive limit and therefore aware of all his actions.

He should have been banned from ALL football matches for life.

However, the community service order is more beneficial to the community than sending him to prison, at least some people will benefit from his stupidity and we (tax payers) will not have to pay to feed him and look after him.

Worse BAWS (post 8), the brick could have killed someone and for what? Not seeing his team who drive flash cars, live in large houses and have models as wives/girlfriends win a game of football. Why take it out on opposing fans or the police. Vent your anger verbally or in writing to your team on boards like this!!!!!

don’t act like he’s the only one though. there’s bloody hundreds of fans who act just the same, if not worse. end of the day, he’s a kid, he’s 19, he’ll make mistakes. im not condoning it at all, hes acted like a tosser and im sure he knows it, and he deserves the punishment and maybe a worse one, but the fella is a kid at the end of the day.

and does the article ACTUALLY say he was drunk?so he had a drink, i know when i was 19 i could handle more than a pint and a half, if any of you couldnt, you probably should have engaged a bit more socially… arguably that makes it worse as it was all his actions and not drunken idiocy, but isnt that what a ‘guilty’ plea is for?

and before anyone starts moaning, im not his family or anything, but i can see when someone makes a big mistake, i just dont see why some people cant sometimes think that the kid regrets it, and at the end of the day, will pay for it, his face is in the bloody paper, people will probably make his life hard, and yeah he totally deserves it, but it doesnt hurt to put an arm around someone like that and help them out instead of burying them further.

people i gotta say that i know this guy and he isnt a bad person. some of the things you’ve said about him seem very harsh. he threw a brick, and although that is terrible and cannot be excused, it’s not as if he as stabbed someone etc etc. he’s a young lad who has made a big mistake, but dont forget he is getting punished for this. it doesnt make him a bad person or some of the things people have called him on some comments. also, dont belive everything you read, we all know one and a half pints does nothing, proving the paper just puts its own spin on it.

this by the way is the same guy ive had great advice from over many years and who i know would go out of his to help me out in any situation.

Wolves vs Watford at the start of the season was obviously a disappointing game, with Wolves losing the game with almost the very last kick.

Coming out of the ground I was walking past 4 Watford fans all wearing their team’s colours. I said to them that their team had played well, but were lucky to nick the win at the end.

I’ll always remember what they said to me, as it’s a sorry reflection of a small minority of Wolves fans. One of the fans who had just been punched in the mouth, said that I was the first Wolves fan who was treating them as “humans”!

They explained that as they walked past the Steve Bull stand they had been attacked, spat on and called every name under the sun.

I’ve been a season ticket holder most of my life and I hold Wolves very close to my heart. When we lose a game, I’m as disappointed as most Wolves fans. I don’t however let this disappointment manifest itself into violence against rival fans.

I’ve seen it on numerous occasions as parent with young kids regaled in their team strips are verbally abused whether the Wolves team have won or lost. They have simply come to follow their team and have a day out with their kids. This neanderthal attitude is disgusting and how would these Wolves fans feel if their own kids were treated in this manner?

I have a drink with Albion fans and chat to them at the gym or at work. When they get promoted I shake their hand and we have some good-hearted banter when the teams play. To my recollection, I can’t remember shouting at their kids or saying that their wives are on the game!

This is an epidemic that has infested all football clubs. I’ve been attacked myself at various away grounds for daring to wear Wolves colours.

Idiots such as Krishan should be banned for life from all football grounds. Slaps on the wrists and suspended sentences simply are not enough.

It’s the same at the mol as it is for us when we go away, at various grounds around the country I’ve been spat at, thumped, kicked etc it seems to be par for the course – don’t forget when you go away you are outnumbered by a fair amount. Every club has hooligans & i agree with one comment above – how come the police only got 1 out of 150. It’s a malaise of society not just football & unfortunately a lot of so called celebrities behave much the same & set a bad example.
