Mick rules out loan moves
Thursday 6th September 2007, 11:43AM BST.
Mick McCarthy today ruled out any immediate moves in the loan market, declaring: “I’ve got faith in my Molineux men.”
The transfer window for Football League clubs swings open again on Saturday morning, giving Championship bosses the chance to prune the best of the young Premiership talent not being used by their clubs.
And, while Wolves have been monitoring a host of top flight youngsters, McCarthy insists he will not make any new signings unless the Molineux promotion charge stutters in the next few months.
That means there will be no new faces before next weekend’s crunch trip to Bramall Lane, with McCarthy happy to play the waiting game until he can make permanent signings again in the New Year.
“We’ve done alright so far – I definitely won’t be bringing anyone in before the Sheffield United game,” he said.

“We’ve done alright so far – I definitely won’t be bringing anyone in before the Sheffield United game,” he said.
“After that we’ll see how it goes for the rest of the games. I will only sign someone if it is not happening for us and I can find someone better – that is the only way.
“We do have players out injured who will add to the sqaud as well. If we get Mark Little, Lewis Gobern, Matt Jarvis and Jay Bothroyd back it will make a huge difference to the squad of players that we have got. It will give us more options.”
McCarthy would consider signing another goalkeeper if current No 1 Wayne Hennessey or loan man Graham Stack are injured.
“I guess we could look at a goalkeeper – I’ve got Stacky here now until Christmas which is great,” he said.
“But if we lost one of Wayne or Graham I’d have to do something else there.”
Wolves have used the loan market to good effect in the past – transforming their campaign with some astute purchases last season.

We are going to get battered by Sheffield United…. The Crystals are telling me so…

Fantastic – I know we aint allowed to critisise Lord MM but trust me – you aint strong enough to go through the season… injuries, suspensions, lack of form – any of these will kill off your season.
Seems to me MM knows he is out his depth in the prem – he has tried and failed enough times so he is happy to keep you in the championship where he will win more than he loses and you will all sing his praises…
Thats your promotion gone up in smoke. All together now… “when Irish eyes are smiling….”

its not looking very good for you is it boing boing

Happy Baggie
we are already there with form and injuries and we aint doing too bad.
As for loans we have a squad lets use it get the experience into the team and move forward, we never said it would be instant as the squad is young enough for a few more years together.
Lets get behind the guys and push forward.

i am a loyal woves fan and can honestly say i NEVER look at the WBA page, however they are commenting on wolves stories every day!!! is there really nothing worth reading on your own pages???
u worry about mowbray and the exodus from your team…tells me all is not well…how many u got on international duty??
I understand that Mick is trying to build a squad for the long term and wants to give our own players the experience.
That said we do lack strength in depth in defence and left midfield and I would have thought a loan or two would help us out at least until our injured players get fit or the January transfer window opens.
There’s a few rumours around linking Tranmere’s Steve Davies to us. I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing him here on loan at the moment. I’m sure Jarvis will be great when he’s fit but I’d like to see that MM philosophy of competition for places applied to left midfield :)
Lol, don’t worry about us Baggies fans…
Report abuse
Andrew – if you did look at our pages you would see plenty of wolves fans post there – its called banter and discussion. I aint said anything nasty so whats ya problem ?? Also we have six FULL internationals on duty – how bout you ?
Happy Baggie.
Hennessey, Eastwood, Foley, Keogh, Potter, Olofinjana.
There’s 6 for you mate.
Furthermore, I recall Mick saying that the spending was over after we signed Gray. 2 weeks later we had splashed out 3/4 mil on Foley.
I await the loan arrivals next week ;~)
These scum fans really are BORING BORING!
Worry about your own side and go play on your own board.
right first of all suprised no one picked up on this, last thurs moxey said players were coming in! either lack of communication or shows moxey full of tosh!
also our squad is alright for now, wba fans saying “oh good news blah blah” its good news you lost 30m worth of talent, as you arent as good as side as last season! im not saying you wont do well! but you are weaker for sure, so cant use that excuse
Report abuse
my day is getting better and better….
9 – very pleased for you – so we are all ok then – dont know why he asked the question in the first place. anyway, back to the story…
you guys have been saying all season you need a this, that whatever… lots of room for improvement. Moxey said you were getting some young prem players in – nothing happened, MM said he was looking at the loan system – now this. Sorry to say it – you have been mugged !
It aint like I need to try hard these days is it…?
McCarthy’s remarks are in stark contrast to those of his chief scout. Do these guys talk to one another?
The only thing MM is quoted as saying is that he has faith in his’Molineux Men’ and he definitely won’t be getting someone in before the Sheff Utd game (just over a week away).
Maybe potential targets are at clubs which have a large number of senior players out on International duty and they want to make sure they are not left exposed in any position through injuries – or does that sound too sensible ?
I think the bagies bloke has got it right (2 1st para only) We have got players on international duty, an increasing injury problem (Rob Edwards) and this can only exacerbate the problem for injuries
Report abuse
MM appreciates it is no good having good young players if you are not going to allow them to play and develop. So what if that means you do not go up this season (and thats a big if), you will have the benefit of giving those young players the experience and chance to develop, and then push on with improved players.
Yes the loan system can be used to your advantage but i admire MMs stance, why develop other clubs players before giving your own a chance????
To be fair Happy_Baggie has a point. We do lack strength in depth and we certainly lack pace at centre back. No-one can question Breen’s commitment but he’s not quick enough. Fastest member of the squad maybe, but it’s the first ten yards that count and he has nothing there. We need a proper athlete at the back to support him or there are certain teams that will rip us apart this season.
Be 7 if Murray was fit……
Report abuse
in reply to paul wolf only hennessey would make our bench.going up in style.
MM needs to sort out some defensive cover now!!
Where’s the money gone?
I wouldn’t mind a centre half that can run or a striker that can head the ball but I’m happy with the squad although the Stoke match was dreadful!
i was expecting a jewel from the chelsea, mankychester or arsenal mould to come on loan and give us a spark but im happy with the squad we got, just worried about the midfield, if george gets injured we will hav to hav potter in and that aint gud!
Happy Baggie, the new Brian Clough!! Meks you loff. Clown.
Of course Mowbray has plenty of Prem success hasnt he??
Lets all sing together now…
‘Mr Sandwell bring me a dream…’
Report abuse
if mm thinks this team is good enough then i think he is not watching the same games as me then we are not strong enough in defence or on the left wing
Report abuse
Glad you think so!! Looks like i’ll have to double on the underpants when watching the wolves in case i blow a hole in one pair at our jittery defence!!
I just can’t beleieve there are some people on these pages moaning 4 games in. O-K we have not pulled up trees but 3 off top!! I really thought as fans last season we had turned the corner but obviously not and the bad mol vibes return. We have new signings some have settled well, others will need a bit of time but for crying out loud why can’t we get some perspective!! If we are mid table going nowhere in february (which I don’t beleive will happen by the way) then by all means moan because it will be justified but we as fans need to get a grip and back the lads and the management until such a time happens.
Andrew, HB and Paul Wolf please dont start the ‘we’ve got more internationals than you’ thing again! It got saft the other week when it was done. We should all be proud that even though we’re stuck in this league we can all boast that we have internationals in the teams…..wolves are obviously better tho in my biased opinion
Report abuse
ANDREW its cuz we never have anything to coplain about,we like to see you lot telling everybody how good you are boing boing

Maybe we did need to use the loan system for say another 1/2 players but we do have a few injured players at the moment and I think Mick is counting on these guys coming back in the not too distant future.
However I believe that TM has gone the other way ie. too many players.
13 new players is a hell of lot to sign in such a short time.
We will have to wait and see who’s policy is the most successful.
Only a matter of days ago , as the transfer window was closing, we read that MM had been given the “nod” by Steve Morgan regarding targets he had identified, presume because MM saw areas that needed bolstering–now it seems that MM is happy with things the way they are.I trust in MM but find it a bit confusing, perhaps its just a smoke screen and we are looking for additions but want to keep the cards close to the chest ????

So much rubbish is spouted on here its unreal!

unlucky happy-baggie.. the comments you put on here everday with the plan of trying to get wolves fans to critise there team aint worked so far!! im sure some mug will rise to your bait latter but so far no luck eh!! ah well you will have to try and think of something else to to this afternoon to amuse you…how bout trying to learn the players names of your `wonderful squad` that should take you a few months….UP THE WOLVES HOWWWWLLLLLLL

plus Kightly, Gleeson U21′s

Where ignorance is bliss, ’tis folly to be wise. That’s why Happy Baggie’s happy.
He doesn’t know Wolves have got six internationals, not to mention Gleeson and Kightly on Under-21 duty, nor that Wolves have one of the biggest squads in the Championship.
He doesn’t realize that the reason we don’t need loan players is that we ARE strong.
Happy Baggie or Sad Folly?!

I think the Albion fans that post on here are either:
1. Very bored at work & have nothing better to do except from post pointless drivel (boing boing).
Or…
2. Are happy_and_on_the_dole – using their extensive range of benefits to pay for internet access so they can sit their sweaty hulks in-front of a monitor all day.
Whatever the case may be I believe that these men should be pitied for having nothing better to do in their lives except run to the door with their trousers round their ankles when their elderly mother comes upstairs to check on them!

COME ON MICK GO AND GET JOHN HARTSON HE WILL DO A GOOD JOB FOR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Nice on Paul Wolf ;)
tbh i still do think we need some loan player mainly in DEFENCE but other than that i think we’re solid
Report abuse
nice one Paul Wolf and that’s before we get to the under 21s and under 18s where Gleeson, Davies, Kightly spring to mind. Wolve squad looks in good nick. We’ve made a good start and whilst we have some players out of form, and an awkward injury to Jarvis at the moment, I think we have one of the stronger championship sides. If we struggle through the autumn, the MM can look at loan reinforcements, and there is still the Jan window to look to. Everyone should remember that Sunderland were nowhere until christmas, and were in the relegation zone as late as October last season. There are 42 games left. This is a very long season!

C’mon Mick – go get Calum Davenport on loan from WHU – he’s a young, pacy centre back well done the pecking order at Upton park

its all good and well baggie fans posting on here taking the mick saying were rubbish, got no depth, not going up etc etc, but at the end of the day the league table doesnt lie (even this early in the season ;)).
im not saying we will be above albion all season cause the way the championship is there could be a diff team in the top 6 every week, but make no mistake we’ll be up there knocking on the automatic promotion places doors trust me.
until sandwell town are above us they should remain silent really and discuss the real issues on these pages!

Yes I know you have have internationals… WELL DONE ! Read post 5 and see why put it in – I was making a point !
To all those of you who (now) say your squad is strong enough – you changed ya tune. I don’t suppose we will be reading any more posts about needing new CB’s or LBs etc from now on.
Tp point 30 – I only ask questions – I don’t make things up and to 33 – how come you are posting on here in the day time then ?? As for the trousers round the ankles senario – YUK ! Don’t know what you have been doing but wash your hands after !
In MM I trust !

42 – I have a big nose. (happy now ?)

don’t think MM wants to upset the team spirit by bringing in some prem upstart. i’m afraid sometimes though it has to be done. need another inspired loan deal like huddlestone was.
or we could just pin our hopes on some eastern european waiter like that shower down the road.
UP THE WOLVES !!

Anyway – am I really the one you should be moaning about ??
It wasn’t me that promised you new exciting signings… maybe if you think about it you will agree that you have been mugged (again) or at least misled by JM, SM amd MM – you say you already have injuries, what happens if you have more ?? Sheff Utd will kick you up in the air – they always do. For your sake lets hope Eastwood can do the 100 metre hurdles.

wolveswolves , good question~ where did the money go? no where is the answer! Its all a mystery really.
Retracking the plot, started the season with the need for new players. No money so it was the money from player sales that got the 4M for some new ones.
I don’t care what Moxey says, Morgan couldn’t have invested 4M without a set deal completed. The man is a businessman and wouldn’t toss cash at anything with knowing he had control.
Ok, so Moxey announces the “imminent” arrival of Morgan, oh, he got 10 quid out of his piggy bank ready. We all rushed out and bought season tickets! this was the man, 30M ready to inject, expectations of a pitch for Rooney or Ronaldo! Months later he came on board.
Lack luster games to date, couple of good players. About 1/3 of what we need.
Back to the question, “where is the money?” ask Mr. Morgan, I reckon its still in his pocket! where he wants it to be, until he sells the lot for 20 quid and doubles his money.
The game plan? Morgan can see we might make the palyoff’s, then the team is a prime target for sale! His return on his 10 quid, enormous.. oh guys thats BUSINESS! thats what its about….

did anyone go to stoke game?
our defence was very safe and i do believe our very talented attacking force in kightly eastwood ward n keogh did squat all game!
maybe we are looking at the wrong end of the pitch because if we had some attacking options who are good we would of beat stoke easily
end day we got gobern, edwards, elliot, jarvis, little who will all be match fit within the month
all those will be pushing for starting place if fit and maintain being fit

To many expect miracles to happen in such a short period of time. Don’t doubt there will be heavy investment and changes coming in the next 2 years depending on our success or lack of it. Chill in the beautiful knowledge that we’re owned by a FatCat who’s got massive ambitions.
It’s never been better to be a Wolves fan..We’re on the rise…But you can’t expect it to happen overnight.

i hope this is not true. i commented two weeks ago mm will live or die buy his transfer dealing’s this summer because if he don’t get it right january will be to late. Well from what i’ve seen this season we’re a lb a ch with pace and a mf general short.im more realistic than optimistic and were not good enough to go up automatically with the sqaud mm has asembled.Alot of wolves fans give mm praise for what he did last year which he deserves. But times have changed. He has more freedom in the transfer market and im very disapointed with his lack of signings in defence and midfield.Hope he proves me wrong but anyone with a football brain can see our defence is weak and we lack someone who bosses the midfield.Big seyi is great in the opposition half but not in our own.Potter has the talent but lack’s belief in his game.Henry gives 100% but he is not good enough.those wolves fans who’ve called for his recall in place of potter take your blinkers off he always passes sideways, does not create a great deal and loses the ball in dangerous areas. If i was mm i would get cahill from villa on loan,Michael ball from man city and carsley from everton now they’ve got gravesen back. Also mm i get the impression does not like mark davies.I know he’s been injured but he best be given a chance when he’s fit cos he’s probably the most talented footballer at the club.

QUALLITY bet he doubles his money to 20 quid when he sells boing boing

don’t think MM knows what he’s doing – promotion your kidding that defence is bordering on relagation material.
Surely loan players are the answer as we are really lacking in quality. Come on Mick there are players out there and there not just from Sunderland and Ireland.
With this attitude your heading for the door
Report abuse
If MM truly thinks that there are no better full backs than collins (center half) no better midfielders than potter or henry no better wingers that Ward (center forward) he is off his trolley.
Any wolves player reading his comments now knows that there is no real pressure for places – Something MM said he wanted wanted
What happened to the money that SM said was available if MM wants to strengthen? MM must be the only manager who does not want to strengthen.
Unless its all just newspaper talk just there because of the constsnt presence of the E&S who hav eto fill the pages somehow.
As you all know everything in newspapers is true ….Isn’t it??

don,t think mick should put the blinkers on yet i am a wolves fan and i can see this early stage of the season wolves are struggling they have two strikers that are don,t work there socks off and walk on the pitch with chips on there shoulders seeing whos got the biggest forwards who don,t shoot when they can and a defence who are too slow and don,t talk to each other don,t know why they keep putting the ball high in the box when 1st there isn,t a striker 2nd no one can win a header thick MM needs to look again before he looses the fans
