Bednar: I’ll repay Baggies
Thursday 6th September 2007, 11:44AM BST.
Roman Bednar has pledged to repay Albion for rescuing him from his Hearts nightmare.
Bednar clinched a season-long loan deal minutes before the transfer window closed on Friday to become the Baggies’ 13th summer signing.
And the giant Czech striker insists it’s exactly the fresh challenge he needs after becoming frustrated by a succession of niggling injuries and the behind-the-scenes politics at Tynecastle.
There are more than 60 players on the Jambos’ books and Bednar said he was unhappy with the direction the club had taken on and off the field under the direction of owner Vladimir Romanov.
“It’s been my dream from the beginning to play in England,” said Bednar, who has joined Albion with a view to a permanent move next summer.

“I thought I might stay at Hearts for one more year but I didn’t want to stay there any more. There were bad things happening there so I was happy to move.
“There are a lot of players there but it wasn’t about that because I felt that if I was fit I would play there.
“But the question was how they played there – I was unhappy with everything. I needed a fresh challenge because I just didn’t like what’s going on at Hearts now.”
Bednar is well known to Albion’s sporting and technical director Simon Hunt, who was chief scout to George Burley during his brief spell in charge at Hearts.
The former Mlada Boleslav targetman started that season with three goals in eight games as Hearts went top of the SPL before Burley was bizarrely sacked, and he’s eager to recapture that form.
“I want to try to recapture the sort of form I showed when I first moved to Hearts,” said Bednar, who has an outside chance of playing for the reserves at Walsall next week.
“But the problem was my fitness and I spent a lot of time there injured. I had lots of different injuries.
“I need a couple more days working on my fitness and then I hope I can be back playing in two weeks.
“The gaffer’s told me not to rush back because that was one of the reasons why I had no many injuries.”

Sooo much strength up front now, the combinations ToMo can opt for are endless.
The same goes for the middle of the park too……
Bring on the rest of the season I am ready to roll.
On a realistic, and tiny little concerned note is back up for Deano; but here’s to the oppo not getting that far.

Roman Bednar is a good signing, he will give us more options up front, I think we will score 103 goals this season. Boing Boing up we go!

I’m eagerly awaiting this season, with the amount of creative players we now have in our squad mixed with the power houses we can’t fail to be up there competing with Blades, Wolves, Norwich and Cov etc. Maybe we can also get ourselves a leading scorer in the Championship!

Get this lad fit i think he good become a gel. 1 thing that makes this season exciting to be a baggies fan is all these players coming who are unknown really but come here with good references and cv, i.e. bednar and bart czech and polish internationals respectively. texiera played for psg, cesar slovak international signed from marseille champ league experience. And the british buys i.e. barnett, brunt, miller and morrison are all great buys who really could get into most prem teams. If we could just improve away and become more physical like morro said we can easily be a force in this league. Boing Boing bring on the tractor buys week sat.

all of your posts end with
“bye bye boggies down ya stay”
and it` as amusing now as it was the first time,
which is not at all.
Actually,
your comedic content equals that of your football knowledge.

If Albion fans are honest we know nothing about half the players we have signed this summer, Bednar included. We all hope they will work out and only time will tell.
I think we lack two things, a ball winning midfielder (in the mould of McInnes) and experienced goalkeeper cover.
Boingboing666, hit the nail on the head when he says we are eagerly waiting to see what happens, partly because we have no idea as to the players abilities.
The knock on effect is that opposing teams will struggle to know what to expect from us as a team and as individuals.
Two players i cant wait to see after a run of games is, Brunt and Miller.

I think when we are away we should play a 3 5 2…. make it hard for the other team to play.

Hoefkens Barnett Cesar
Very strong def very physical
Gera Greening Koren Pele Brunt
Miller Philips
This is how we should play away, making it hard for the other team to play….

Why is it that the really stupid people (7) always use caps lock ?? Its the written equivalent of a burberry baseball cap !! Are they shouting or do they think it makes them look big and tough ??
Somebody really should tell them that it makes them look moronic – although having unfortunately read his latest “offering” i think its a waste of time.

Got to say that we need to get to business when away from home. We need to make it very difficult for the other team. I think that ToMO needs to go with a 3-5-2 formation.

At the end of the day, your main aim away from home is to a least get a point.. If you then win most of your home and draw more then you lose. You will be up there at the endo of the season…

Dingles on here again.. making you sound like the poor neighbours you are which is why you come on here. Exciting times at the albion unlike over at the custard bowl. Do us a favour and list your forwards.. I could do with a laugh.
P.S There is a striker playing for zaglebie in poland who hasn’t scored for a year.. maybe he could be your next super frank? ha ha.

12,
Good call wba4prem. I’ve been saying that since the Burnley game & against Sheff Utd it was obvious we need to stiffen up the midfield with extra bodies. This formation can be very attacking as well & I don’t know why we don’t use it. I know under Megson we did & it was seen as negative by some but we had less quality then & were not as attack minded. With this lot it’s definitely worth a go!

Well done Mr Slowbury,
yet another signing for the boggies that nobody has ever heard of. We are quaking in our boots over at the golden palace. Not!!!!

Can you imagine Bednar, Miller and Bart our 6’3″ pole with a goal bearing down on some poor defenders… scare the life outta them. Plus phillips and Beattie running then ragged,LOVIN IT !
I love the blend of youth, experience, muscle, pace and skill that ToMo has brought in – every confidence for a great season now.

Stephen Pearson – I know someone called Stephen Pearson and he ain’t a moron so there has to be more than one !!
So you ain’t heard of him – oooooh !! maybe we should asked you first ?
Take your jealous little comments back to the dingles pages and cry about what MM is (not) doing – leave the good stuff to us.

Tony Mowbray is the ideal man to waste the money the club have pulled in selling their decent players. The club can settle down to being in this division for a long time now cause with all the money spent and parachute money ending, 2008 is going to be a hard year to be a baggie fan.
35 – what a completely ridiculous thing to say –
How have we wasted money ? You are obviously a sad and jealous dingle peering over the fence at your rich neighbours. Just cos we have got players in and old MM wants to play Breen and Co every week, don’t take it out on us. I know we laugh at you and your club, but till you do something worthwhile you just have to take it.
Get used to it dingle boy !

The depths the dingles will go to is SO funny – read 33… “Tina” Mowbray …. what a clever little chap you are !! Honestly, its like a playground in here.
